Forgot how much I loved that Soldier76 cinematic. I know it’s nothing new or even all that unique, but I am a sucker for that good guy vigilante framed almost as a horrific figure from others’ perspective.
2:07 God seeing doomfists gauntlet... its so incredible how at the time people cared enough about this games story that we begged the devs to add a character simply off seeing his weapon and a few lore tidbits. This game really was a phenomenon we all got to be a part of for a brief moment.
Yeah this is probably the worst take from a streamer and the chat I've ever seen on those cinematics. They're so impressive and well done and seeing them disregarded is mind-blowing.
Imo Mei has one of the darkest backstories of the entire Overwatch cast especially because unlike a lot of the other members of the cast with dark story lines none of her choices could have possibly stopped it from happening. Widow is another example of a character whose actions couldn’t have stopped her backstory from happening like widow got tortured and turned into Widowmaker because she got married to the wrong guy.
You can watch the Kiriko short and see that the people in the Overwatch team had all the correct heart and ideas to make things great; but the higher ups had to F it all up for what they thought would make more money.
Sigma's origin story will always be my #1. We were all expecting mauga to drop back then but outta nowhere we got that wild origin video. Gives me chills every time.
Jesse McCree was a name inspired by one of the staff at Blizzard. Said staff member was later let go on account of his association and knowledge about a certain place frequented by Blizzard staff that was involved in several harassment suits. Basically the man was outed as being at the very least an enabler of sexual harassment and abuse within the company, and when that information went public Blizzard went into damage control to remove characters and things associated with the bad actors that were fired for their behavior. In the case of McCree though, when you have a game built around established heroes with unique functions in terms of gameplay mechanics that have a dedicated following of players who enjoy using them, it is a little harder to just remove them from the game outright. So rather than trying to rebuild and replace McCree, they simply changed his name
Finally the best cinematics in the wild west Respects to Magic, Hearthstone, WoW, LoL and a whole lot of other games out there, but man Dragons and Honor and Glory are really another level to me The most recent ones are okay, but i prefer the "old school" 3d animation. But it's no fair saying the cinematics got bad with overwatch 2 since the kiriko one is truly very good.
It’s a shame the video you’re reacting to didn’t include the origin story shorts for Overwatch 1 (yet it included two origin story shorts from Overwatch 2 even though there are like 7 of them that were made???) Very maddening compilation lol.
@@Shrimp4Gura I don't really have a preference, I miss playing with my off tank but I also understand how 5v5 opens up a lot of design space for tanks. There are problems with both formats, but I still just haven't found a game that hits quite like Overwatch
Most of these make reference to the firs war but what they are all leading up to the recall for the second war is what overwatch 2’s story was supposed to be about.
i'm no where near trying to send hate but i find it odd you have such strong opinions on OVW2 when you've never even played it? the game has balancing issues for sure but that's about it (although u could argue the loss of PVE made it worse and then i say fair point). I think people are too held up on nostalgia these days were it blinds them from an actual non biased criticism of the game.
Ngl, this is what I was thinking. When we started getting to the OW2 cinematics and she had zero idea who JQ or even Sojourn were, that’s when I realized she was hating so hard but definitely never even played the game. Couple that with how much she seemed to hate the more cartoony animations, the reaction didn’t feel like we were having fun anymore imo
Overwatch 2 was bad at the start, but I really think Overwatch 2 is pulling back and is really good. the biggest problem I have right now with it is how they completely abandoned PvE
idk if chat mentioned this but Jesse McCree was named after the fired worker at Blizzard of the same name, he's the guy who ran the "cosby suite" and he was one of the head devs if I remember correctly. They HAD to can the name.
@hurtsaa196 Not exactly, things weren't great before OW2 sure but there was still a community, there was still people who wanted to play. Now the player count cannot stop dropping due to so many bad balance patches, and they just keep coming lol
@@hurtsaa196 OW2 was supposed to be a new start. People interpreted it as PvE giving casual players something to do, and just generally having a game besides PvP. Changing the format to 5v5 also helped, as it was supposed to shake things up. Unfortunately, they scrapped the PvE and 5v5 arguably created more problems than it solved. OW1 was doing *very* well for an extended period of time; Blizzard just severely dropped the ball on multiple fronts and didn't accept they made mistakes in time. Take a look at Symmetra' changes as a case-study for a great example. Considering Blizz essentially had an unlimited budget *and* an incredibly big and loyal fanbase, it's genuinely impressive they fumbled it so hard so consistently for years. And "dying" still isn't remotely true - even if it's a fraction of its popularity. "Dying" implies the game being unrecoverable or closing of its servers being in the horizon.
@@mr.weaboo1368lol what are you on? OW2 at its worst still has more players than OW1 at its peak. Things like double shield and Brig ruined OW1 and they refused to balance those for years. OW1 devs and Jeff Kaplan were completely incompetent, Aaron Keller is a much better lead dev and actually communicates with the community
ye this was when overwatch was magical/ The cinematics took us into the characters to feel how they feel. Now the feeling is non existent unfortunately. I liken the feeling of the first time a past generation went to disney land or something like that. Simply magical!
idk why chat says kiriko 'broke' ow canon, the fox spirit is no different from hanzo and genjis dragon spirits ... essentially the personification(?) of something inspired by Japanese culture
The money Blizzard could have made with a animated show, working with the likes of a Netflix. Too late now, the current Overwatch team,Microsoft and Bobby Boi, have run it into the ground. I noped out when we did not get the promised PVE , Overwatch 2? More like Overwatch Reforged. 😡
@@VoxyTwitch there are playlists of them on youtube they are 1 to 2 minutes long each animation for the back story of most heroes not shown in the cinematics.. highly recommend them
While Overwatch 2 has broken A LOT of promises and there is no good excuse for not delivering the PvE-Mode or the horrendous pricing of skins, I do think the gameplay itself has made several improvements. 5v5 feels more action packed than before (even though tanks have a hard time due to counter-picking the enemy tank), but as a DPS and Support-Player, the game feels much more fun to me. It took some time to get out of the "everything is bad"-bubble, but after playing a few days, it actually became fun again and I like the new characters a lot. Try the game for a few matches, disable chat to not get flamed too much and it's a really good game.
I'll be honest, i was a bit bummed to hear her opinion about OW2, but i thought "that's fair, the changes are not for everyone" but then when the JQ cinematic rolled around i realised she just hasn't played it at all, and now i'm feeling... not quite anger but i guess just frustration? OW2 is pretty good RIGHT NOW, and i'm sad the horrible state it launched ruined the discourse around it. Anyways, had to be that guy, but i strongly feel about OW2 being a good game, with the large disconnect from its initial audience being that people just got good at that kind of game that hadn't really been about in a substantial way before. OW2 on release had a TON of issues but most if not all of them have been ironed out and i think it's in a great spot.
Dude same, I get the distain for stuff going on with mtx and failings on Blizzards end with the game, but if you don't remember Kiriko but are willing to sit and say the game sucks w/o ANY explanation as to why, then I have to question how much you've played the game when it came out to make that judgement....or if you've played at all at that point. I'm not even that big a fan of the game just due to the reliance of always feeling that you need to swap off a character due to either being countered or needing to counter yourself, but speaking so negatively about something that you potentially haven't even played is no better than the games "journalists" we all are okay with throwing flak at for this very thing.
At the beginning she said she played back when Dva died from her own ult. That was the first year it was released. It was Changed in July 2016. The game only came out like, two months before that. So I feel frustrated by some of her comments as well.
Already replied to another comment, but yeah, the reaction took a bit of a downturn for me when we reached the OW2 stuff and I realized she was hating on it but definitely never even played it.
The mei short always got me. Not just cuz of the sadness but when they were frozen for 9 years. Meis age Biologically is 33. Her age chronologically is 42..which is so weird to me
No its not just because she's brown and has a purple hair piece? Sombra along the rest of the overwatch heroes exist at the same time soldier would've been dead by the time sombra grew up and why would sombra be in talon if a overwatch hero saved her?
people probably told you already: Kirikos Mum is the one that trained Hanzo and Genji back in the day and Kiriko trained with them together. So kiriko and Genji are childhood friends.
I find it so funny that 50% of the community is like "Overwatch 2 is the same game, why did we need a whole new game for this" and the other 50% is like "Overwatch 2 sucks they ruined it" XD in all reality Overwatch has grown since Overwatch 2 came out and has more new players than ever so these are some hot takes at the beginning
The chat in this was so fucking stupid. Like, some legit awesome backstory and worldbuilding on the omnics and they're all sO bOrInG. Worst take I've seen on those cinematics when they're almost universally loved by everyone else. Guess the bandwagon effect was in full swing.
They need to turn that boy who used the glove or his brother in the first cinematic into a hero in Overwatch just to satisfy my need for a completed arc
To go back and play Overwatch before Brigitte basically ruined the game for six months and GOATS paralyzed the balance team into a sequence of events that killed overwatch league.
As a tank main too, I don’t hold any strong opinions towards it. I started playing back in 2016 too but I did enjoy the 5v5 switch because it made all of the tanks stronger and it was fun. But I have to say playing dva (my main) is so much harder now without another tank on the team. It just allows people to go zarya/sym and burn holes through me without consequence 😔
Idk, gameplay wise i found OW2 to hold up just fine. I never minded having one less tank personally. The way blizzard handled the game in general is what made it suck to me. Literally just ruined the franchise so they could add more monetization to it.
From Planes to plain Unfortunately the profanity filter doesn't seem to like my suggestion for "Cars", but I'm sure you can figure out what rhymes with that. That's the weird vehicle ones covered, keep it up you beautiful people!
I mean it is also the most well-known/ridiculous inconsistency in their lore because they "grew up" together however in the "present day" kiriko is 21 while hanzo is 40 and genji is 37 so it completely doesn't make sense.
@@XpVersusVista die to your own ult because your toe wasnt hiden while the enemy Winston survives hiding behind a pole, sound like a problem if you ask me
The nostalgia-tinted glasses are always so powerful when it comes to Overwatch oml. The game is so much more digestible & playable now than the chaotic mess it started as imo
Saying in chat they couldn't make pve for 2. It was hard. Yeah, was hard for Bobby to not steal all and left it in shambles with Caplan as a scapegoat. Ruined such a thing for corporal bs should be in jail
