When the first card of the list is 32 points, you know there are going to be some powerful cards further up.
@EBHsswvZUM
@EBHsswvZUM 3 года назад
I think it speaks to the power and longevity of this set that only two of these cards have an end date in their time frame, and one was just last year with a real possibility it could show up again before 2020 is out.

@@bluepomegranate Then it's worse, but it's not strictly worse because that specifically means "worse in every conceivable circumstance" and this genius has found one in which you'd rather cast Day of Judgement.

@@TheSquareOnes Strictly worse doesn't really exist by that definition in MTG because of effects like mind slaver and mind control. The what if's can just go so deep so it's generally accepted that we don't count things like that.

I must say, I really like the Card Kingdom intro. I just think it looks pretty. Ahhhh Zendikar, a set which has so many cards with Vintage points. I could pick any of them and find a nice pun. But in the end, I'll choose Expedition Map, since it might just be the one that leads me to finally receiving "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)."

Ever thought of doing “Best Decks” lists? Like top deck archetypes for each format? I’d be curious to see what decks are, historically, the highest performers in each format. Was Cawblade more dominant than Mardu Vehicles according to Top 8’s? You could also do “Quickest Deck to Reach 100,” or variants of the top decks, like dividing the total number of points by the number of years the deck has existed in some form in eternal formats. I bet things like Affinity and Dredge will have the most points in Modern, for instance, but how many points do they actually average a year? Do most of the points in general come from a specific spike in that deck’s usage at the competitive level like Death’s Shadow a few years ago where I’m sure it put up a number of points very quickly, or will consistently being good but not broken be enough to get archetypes enough points?

Honestly, Expedition Map is such a good card - so simple and effective, and can be useful from the most casual of kitchen table decks to something quite competitive. These days I run a Golgari deck in historic that basically uses Golos and Ulvenwald Hydra to do more or less the same thing (in my case, finding a copy of The World Tree so I can shift from my midrange/control strategy to my OTK).

I was really surprised to see that goblin guide had no points from legacy burn
@1norwood1
@1norwood1 3 года назад
Burn has some pretty bad matchups in legacy which makes it difficult for burn to make deep run in major tournaments. It has huge problems against fast combo decks (Stuff like Reanimator, show and tell etc) random decks with Hymn to Tourach also cause big issues. For years legacy was full of counter balance and deathrite shaman as well, both of which made life pretty hard for burn.

As of this moment, omnath is honestly the only card that does anything worthwhile with landfall. I guess the lotus cobra too, but that requires your deck to be able to take advantage of it. Im gonna guess they are just waiting with the landfall cards; getting the party mechanic out of the way.

I've noticed this before, you call the Hogaak deck a dredge deck, however it's a completely different graveyard-centric deck and doesn't run a single card with dredge, neither in Legacy nor when it was legal in Modern.
@NizzahonMagic
@NizzahonMagic 3 года назад
It is like how Affinity doesn't run any cards with affinity.
@PhoenicopterusR
@PhoenicopterusR 3 года назад
It's just a theme name, man. A dredge themed deck doesnt need to run cards with dredge, just like a stax deck doesnt need to have smokestacks, or a tron deck doesnt need to have the tron lands it was originally named after.
@NizzahonMagic
@NizzahonMagic 3 года назад
@@PhoenicopterusR I am with you other than Tron. What "Tron" deck doesn't run tron lands?
@teusvandermeij7287
@teusvandermeij7287 3 года назад
I get how affinity has evolved into an aggro artifact synergy deck that doesn't run any cards with affinity anymore, but it's different with hogaak. First of al it didnt evolve from Dredge it evolved from BridgeVine decks. Secondly, it's confusing to call Hogaak Dredge since Dredge is still a thing being played in both Modern and Legacy. Hogaak is a different deck, one that never played any Dredge to begin with. We called it Hogaak summer, not Dredge summer right?

Im sometimes wondering where Nizzahon gets his information regarding standard because Disfigure hasnt seen any play for almost a year so his statement about it is just false unless im missing something. Its not the first time he claims a card saw play in current standard when it really hasnt.

I don't follow the competitive scene, but maybe you forget about sideboards? If my memory's correct, I played one or two copies in my esper hero deck with which I reached mythic last fall. It was very potent against agro and the ubiquitous sacrifice (get out of here, goose or Priest of Forgotten Gods or Robin Hood). It was probably a great card in the few weeks the meta was 50% Lurrus and 50% Yorion, but I didn't play much then. Uro is probably the reason it stopped seeing play: with gain life and ramp, board wipes are more reliable, so the number of spot removals can go down.

@@NizzahonMagic Im not saying you are lying because as you said there wouldnt be a reason to, but its a bit confusing to hear about cards that are non-existent in regular arena play but have points in sideboards of some tournaments. Maybe explaining how it sees play might help clear up that confusion because its hard to keep track of it with so many tournaments. You do that sometimes already.
@NizzahonMagic
@NizzahonMagic 3 года назад
I explain where the points come from in the intro. Your impression of what the format is based on Arena isn't where points come from haha. If I say a card sees play somewhere, it is based on evidence. Any other card you think I have said sees play but doesn't, rest assured it is played too. A card being in sideboards is plenty relevant, and people play Disfigure on Arena too - I could link you yo some mythic deck lists, buy you get the picture.
