So glad to hear your family is doing well. Your brother doing the oil pressure gauge for cost of parts ,is amazing. I also owned my own shop for 41 years and you do those things to keep peace and happiness with your customers. Total respect for the both of you two . God bless you and your family.
YUP. And years later, when all the friends and family of "that guy" are bringing their vehicles to you, you look back and realize that that "free" oil pressure gauge repair was a GREAT investment.
How true it is!! I got so sick of customers that would say that very thing. "It didn't do that before"!! Damn it still pisses me off. I know, customers seem to think all shops are dishonest and that pisses me off too!!! And then there are customers that just want something for free and then you see them at the bar that very night blowing money. GRRRR!!!
I learned a trick from the best SA i ever knew. Customers loved this guy. When a customer gets nuts about some new problem that "wasn't there before", tell them this joke to break the tension and change the mood. "A guy goes in for hand surgery and asks the doctor, "Doc, will i be able to play the piano after the surgery?" The doc says, "Yes. Of course." The patient says, 'That's awesome. I always wanted to play the piano."" It works. I've used it for decades.
Glad to hear your granddaughter is out of the hospital and is doing good.GOD is GREAT!!!! With ever thing that is been going on with your granddaughter you guys are still putting out fantastic videos.GOD BLESS you Danner and your family!!!!
@@ScannerDanner question my son has a 97 Grand Prix 3.8 naturally aspirated and in need of a cold start valve. I have searched everywhere and can’t locate one. Since you have many resources would you know where I can get one? I located one but it was at a junkyard and carries no warranty. Thanks
Thanks for sharing SD, so happy to be in a live chat, Awesome😍 Lot's of well wishes for your granddaughter🙏 Special Thanks to James Danner👍 Stay Safe & Blessed Guy's❤
Awesome news on the family! Communication issues have been HUGE at our shop lately. Just did a Corolla that supposedly stalled after fueling up. The short version is, I ended up putting motor mounts in it for a rough idle feel. smh Keep up the great work!
So great to hear that your grand-daughter is on the mend. God bless her and the rest of the Danner family. Thank you so much for the follow up video especially in light of all you are dealing with Paul. Hang in there buddy!
Auch ich in ostdeutschland bete für die gesundheit von dem kleinen gottesgeschenk ( gott ist bei uns und dem baby wird es gut gehen).alles gute für eure gesundheit familie danner. Lg.
Paul, So glad that everything is ok with your granddaughter Ellie - that is what is important! Prayers and best wishes to Caleb and family. Paul (in MA)
Customers seem too forget, telling the mechanic the truth saves them money. Good communication on what the vehicle is doing makes are jobs so much easier!
Customers customers, some of them think that new vehicles will be breakless, wearless 4ever. I inspect every car that comes in to me, specially with body and paint. Thank you for the video!
Glad to hear she's out of the hospital and doing well. Hang in there Danner fam. God is good! Awesome video! Yeah the the total FT's had me scratching my head but I imagine they will come closer to 0% after some time. But either way the concern has been addressed! Thank you for another exceptional video!
Paul,Caleb and Danner another great video! Caleb I absolutely luv the editing showing the before and after PIDS when Paul was showing fuel pressure and o2 sensors. I can’t wait for the next video!!!!
Nice fix Danner's. I've really been enjoying your channel, I especially enjoy how in depth you are with your diagnosing. Looking forward to the next video 🤙🏼
Thanks guys, Maybe an oversight to the leakdown after shut down, and yes I know the fuel presure tester was leaking a little. Is that it is very possible that one or more injectors may be leaking also. The oil after all appeared to be contaminated. Might be a contributing factor to the rich idle condition. ? Just a thought !
I replaced a transmission in one of those trucks, first time I'd ever touched the vehicle. it ran great and quiet when I was done but on the test drive, the damn oil pressure light came on and the gauge was on 0 unless I snapped throttle. It had a bargain basement oil filter on it so I swapped that out and the light stayed off and the gauge had a steady reading instead of coming up when I flash the RPM and dropping off. "Never did that before!!!" ....sure it didn't Worked for a couple of days but ended up needing that pressure sensor and screen. Hope your family stays healthy bud
Glad your granddaughter is doing better. The customer says, it wasn't doing that before. The mechanic says, you're right.... before it was a lot worse. History, rode hard, put away wet. Car care nut est only 25% ppl do scheduled car maintenance.
I’ve ran into multiple of the LS base engines having a slight richer fuel trims from to much oil sitting in the rear of the intake and also from a plugged up drain hole in the baffle for the PCV in the drivers side valve cover. Basically burning some oil causing a rich condition.
Yup, you were right, I'm not at all surprised. I'm still wondering why the lean fuel trim dramatically improved when you closed your hand over the open oil cap. How does inadequate fuel volume cause fast idle? I guess if fuel delivery was too low, idle would be low, and the PCM would respond by cracking open the IAC and maybe opening the throttle butterfly. Then vacuum would fall, causing the PCV to open more, which in turn caused more blowby gas movement through the PCV?
A respectful greeting to your son Caleb and you, we will be praying to JESUS for your little granddaughter. Greetings from Tijuana B, C. 🇲🇽 Mexico. 👍👍👍
Wow that vehicle had so many underlying factors that covered up other issues it's a wonder you got it fixed without pulling your hair out ! Things you never new were wrong and the customer never told you . True it was a newer vehicle for it's owner who didn't have it that long . I sure appreciate your play by play on repairing and diagnosing the multitude of problems you had to deal with. You are among the best of good mechanics out there ! A fuel pump pressure test is almost always a pain to plumb in a fuel pressure gauge ! Do you know if they have a mod where you can install a schrader valve for a quick hook up next time you want to do a fuel pressure test?
Thank you my friend. No mods for a service port but I have adapters for just about anything. Any mod you do, related to fuel is a liability that will be on your hands! You don't want that my friend
for the rich condition check fuel volatility and reset it. when people switch between flex fuel and regular it will skew this pid and make it run rich. make sure the oil is clean
Ah the world of fixing chevys....... something Eric O at SMA knows all to well. I bought a 14 Silverado, I have to work on it at least once a month to keep it on the road. I miss the days when they were one of the more reliable and bullet proof brands.
Try doing this when your working flat rate. No car ever comes in with just one problem ,its always 2 or more problems before people relent and actually fix the car. I end up eating diag time on a daily basis because of flat rate and overlapping problems. This business sucks to be in, techs are disrespected by everyone starting with the shop owner. We are asked to do so much more than ever for less money.
Good afternoon scanner Danner I have a quick question , I have a 2014 fusion SE and the fuse box was melted changed that it started up , jumping it from the starter not hing from the key , but I noticed the park indicator is not lit up , but I can hear the fuel pump !
Regards and best wishes to Caleb and family. Very interesting comment on air flow and >3L engines, but first time I've heard it said. Wondering what sort of rule of thumb we can use for
I think the key is to not be too focused on that number. Use fuel trim as a guide during this time. If trim is good, your MAF g/sec number is normal for that car
Hi Paul what kind of scanner do you recommend buying with the scope option and real time data ? I don’t do it for living but I fix all my own Cars for last 20 years. Same cars from 2005.
I just fixed a dodge with misfiring p0303 and the fix was fuel pump loosing the prime every time the key was off. In this case was not low fuel pressure or lean conditions with engine running. The reason I when down that path the misfiring was occurring at 300 rpm thanks to freeze frame data. Thats cranking speed. the only thing I was missing was fuel at 300 rpm. Of course this car got to me after fuel injectors, ignition coils and plug where install.
@@ScannerDanner that was the original idea. My plan of attack was check for injector flow. But that wasn't possible because the system couldn't hold pressure at all. The reason I went after the fuel pump. The freeze frame data show misfiring at 280 rpm thats cranking speed. I checked with pressure transducer to make sure I didnt have nothing happening inside the cylinder at those rpm and everything checked fine. The problem was not fuel pressure at all, making the injectors push air till fuel show up at the rail. I can't explain why only flag cylinder 3 when the rest were missing too. When I questioned the costumer if the check engine light up together with long cranking. The reply was yes. That push me more to lack of fuel delivery. Drop the tank and the fuel pump was replace ones but this one has a odd setup. The fuel filter was before the pump and not after as it should. I never saw a strainer.
Good evening sir, I am trying to fix our Nissan xtrail 2.0 gasoline 2005 model. It cranks but wont start I read codes using car gauge pro app and got p0123 and p0223. I don't know how to confirm this. Would it be possible if I just remove the intake while the engine is switched on and stepping on the gas pedal to see if the throttle plate will move? Thank you very much! You helped me before and I don't know who to ask.
I have an unrelated question,,,do you still have the Aurelius ultra and what are your thoughts Had many scan tools and scopes inc pico but sold my business and looking for 1 tool at moment
HeyPaul, I have a very special problem here. 2005 Beetle 1.6L petrol engine 95.000 miles with brand new wideband O2 Sensor throws P0130 Code after a while -25 Rich Fuel trims at 2500 rpm. BUT, if i turn on the AC the fuel trims go perfect or even very lean throwing a P0171, never seen this before. Do you have any idean what could cause this? Is the AC somehow conectet to the O2 circuit? By the way i like your channel, watching it for months now, greetings from Germany!
I wish you were close to Houston, TX. My 95 Corvette has been down for 10 months and for the life of me I have changed opti, coil, ignition module and pcm. Crank no start no spark. If you could recommend someone maybe it would be greatly appreciated. I'm a disabled vet and my car is vital to my health. Thanks.
I would suspect a power/ground issue to ignition system in that case. but it very well could be bad "new" parts. maybe a mice/rodent chew, corrosion, ignition switch/wiring/fusible link? I'm not sure what that year vette has for power feed to and from ignition switch, relays and fuses. I assume you have checked all the fuses and power feeds. I don't know of any shops to suggest in Texas, let alone in Houston, someone around the net/this channel may see your comment and suggest though.
If you want someone look at your car. Eric from advanced level auto. I believe he live in Houston too. He’s specialized in computer diagnostic, drivability problems, and electrical, etc... I think he do as a mobile. He have a channel as well. Good luck.
One thing I can’t say I fully understand is how on some vehicles you can get a lean condition with a stuck open purge valve. And on other vehicles you can get a rich condition. Obviously engine vacuum is on one side. But how can it be lean if it’s sucking in fuel vapors ?
Oil contaminated with fuel will cause it to run rich. I've also had the flex fuel percentage wrong with the computer on these trucks, thinking it was running a higher mixture of ethanol than what it was cause a rich mixture..
Scanner danner have some issues might could help.... I have 2004 honda civic i have code po134 02 sensor no activities sensor 1 bank 1...... i went to live data when the car first start its shows heater on and after 20 minutes its went off I replaced a new 02 sensor... I check the the wires I got response but after while the heater wire is not getting power reason why show in the scanner it's off.... check the fuses good... I wondered if I could get the schematic for the 02 sensor
It's been my experience that it still applies. I have often used the rule to detect issues here, and most of the vehicles here are below 2.0l. Only on the n/a engines.
Hi scanner, new subscriber here.. I have this same issue with my 2012 silverado, I was wondering if any of your subs know a good code reader mechanic in the Akron ohio area? I need some help
Hi everyone im in the process of buying an 8 channel scope. But im having trouble finding the video where Paul explains how to share grounds with multiple channels. This might affect the readings of fry something up if not disciplined on it.
You won't fry anything with bad ground connections my friend. Just think of each channel as you would a digital multimeter. Every scope is different too in configuration
@@ScannerDanner I’ve been researching a lot because i remember a video where you were explaining to your students how you had multiple vantage pros and somehow connecting them to a shared ground affected the readings. So you explained to use sensor grounds when possible. Sorry about my ignorance to this basic set up.
@@florentinomartinez8073 that was a bias voltage lesson there. We were all looking at a bias on an O2 signal and having multiple units all connected to it, pulled it to ground and we couldn't see it. Sensor ground as opposed to battery ground will always give you a cleaner signal. That is just a general rule. But I hardly use sensor ground unless the cleanliness of the signal is priority
@@ScannerDanner thank you so much for clarifying mr paul. I thank god for using you in such a way that your lessons changed my life completely. I had high scool auto tech, 2 year auto tec in college, and 6 years working in the dealership and scopes were never mentioned. This made my career hard. But when i found your videos and got to know you as a brother in Christ felt as if God was looking out for me. Thanks alot and loving blessings for you and the fam

I do every chance I get my friend. A tip for you. Don't sell "time" for an initial diagnostic. It is the same fee whether it takes you 5 minutes or 60 minutes! You can talk "time" with your customer if it goes past an hour
hey dan i have a 94 caprice 5.7 and of course i live in the ohio rust belt my car starts and runs but its ruff idle and shuts down and starts but doesnt stay running please help !!!!
Can't help without more info and testing on your part. What's fuel pressure, what trouble codes? Can you keep it running with you foot on the gas pedal?
Great video man. I’ll be posting a 2003 Ford ranger lean condition/intermittent no start here soon. If you get a chance check it out. I’ll post it by tmrw. Thanks for all that you have taught us my friend!
@@ScannerDanner I still have to edit the footage. I meant to post it the other day. I’ll comment the link when I post it if You wanna check it out sometime.
Specific for this car You can see fuel pressure gauge with cheep obd2 elm scanner no need for manual tools I could show you how if you are interested .
@@ScannerDanner and just wait till you hear what happens next month when the tail light blows, it never blew before it must have happened when y'all put that alternator on,,lol
Unrelated topic. I got a buick 3800. Suspect icm is bad. Top coil intermittently doesnt work. Swapped coils and same thing.. interesting enough when it starts misfiring mid drive and cel flashing p0300, when i take of the spark wire to the bottom coil and let the spark ground to coil itself and not a test light. The rpms change and top coil starts working again and car starts running fine again. Cel gone..... U seen this before?
