People are so used to weddings being about the entire family rather than a special day for the bride and groom, that family members take it as an affront to themselves when the couple decides not to invite them. A wedding should be about the COUPLE, not about anyone else. Everyone else should feel blessed and grateful they were invited at all. My mom married my dad in private too, and she still has no regrets about doing it that way. Less stress, less unnecessary bickering and feedback, more time for her and my dad to just enjoy themselves on their special day. No one else needed to be involved.

The issue is her daughter is an adult and has a right to get married however she sees fit. Marriage isn’t all about 2 individuals, don’t know what goes on in western culture but in our culture it’s considered a union between 2 families. Also running away and getting married is what cowards do. Real lovers aren’t afraid of anything, they’d go to any length to get the elders to agree to their choices.

Guys, guys, calm down. If you don't have a narcissistic obsessive mother you have no idea just how irritating it is to be around one. Mine straight up called me ugly in her work event that we attended together yesterday. Her smile drops every time someone says I resemble her. And I'm just a teenager. I can't imagine what hell she'll pull me through at my wedding. She just can't stand my face. Whenever I dress up to show her she makes a disapproving face and tries to ''fix" me. She's a wonderful mom but everyone in the family dispises her nitpicky buzkill attitude. I am not surprised she eloped, we don't know the full story. The mom should just let her be, she's not the one important here.

I just can't wrap my head around the price tags of those dresses plus the willingness to spend that much money on an impractical white gown that you wear for a few hours and never again. That amount of money could be a refurbished kitchen or bathroom or patio of one's dreams, or a long, luxurious holiday, or part of a sabbatical...I would never ever spend it for a wedding dress. It's probably one of the options I would consider since I see weddings as a huge waste of money and the focus should be the marriage. Not liking how the mother is making this about her when it's not. She's not the only one who missed the wedding....that's the point of eloping.

Some people just don't want to to have a big spectacle of their vows. Sometimes it's anxiety. Sometimes it's money. Sometimes it's just the stress of planning. Whatever the case, elopements aren't a big affair. They're just the couple. the judge, and maybe a witness. Some places don't even need a witness.
