"Remember the Time" is a 1992 single by American singer and songwriter Michael Jackson. It was released by Epic Records on January 14, 1992, as the second single from Jackson's eighth studio album, Dangerous. The song was written and composed by Teddy Riley, Jackson and Bernard Belle, and produced by Riley and Jackson. The song's lyrics are written about remembering having fallen in love with someone.
"Remember the Time" was generally well received by contemporary critics. The song was commercially successful, peaking at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Billboard Hot R&B Singles as well as the Mainstream Top 40 chart. It is certified 3x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Internationally, the song was a Top 10 hit in nine countries, peaking at No.1 in New Zealand, at No.2 in Spain and No.3 in the United Kingdom.
The accompanying music video for "Remember the Time" was filmed in January 1992 at the Universal Studios Hollywood backlot. Prior to the release of the video, Jackson's record label promoted it by releasing clips, as well as releasing behind the scenes clips of making the video. The nine-minute video was promoted as a "short film". It premiered on ABC, NBC and Fox and BET on February 2, 1992. After the video premiered on MTV, the channel aired a "rockumentary" called "More Dangerous Than Ever" which included glimpses of the making of the video.[6] Jackson's record label would not release the video's budget figures. Directed by John Singleton and choreographed by Fatima Robinson, the video was an elaborate production and became one of Jackson's longest videos at over nine minutes. It was set in ancient Egypt and featured groundbreaking visual effects and appearances by Eddie Murphy, Iman, The Pharcyde, Magic Johnson, Tom "Tiny" Lister Jr. and Wylie Draper,[6] who portrayed Jackson as an adult in the made-for-TV movie The Jacksons: An American Dream and died shortly after appearing in this video.
Jackson appears in the video as a hooded wizard who enters an Egyptian palace and attempts to entertain the Pharaoh's bored Queen. Two other entertainers have failed, and she has sent them to be executed. The Queen sees that this wizard is different - instead of juggling or eating fire, he walks up the steps to her throne and sings to her, asking her if she "remembers the time" they were together. The Pharaoh (played by Murphy) hardly appreciates this move and summons his guards. Jackson runs away to another room and begins elaborate, Egyptian-style choreography with the Pharaoh's servants. When the guards find him, Jackson turns into golden sand. In the video, Jackson was dressed in a costume made of gold satin. He wore golden chain mail, a white skirt with a phallic dangling sash, black pants and black boots. This video features a physically complicated dance routine that became the centerpiece of other videos from the Dangerous album.

“Remember The Time” ~ The meaning of the song is basically a breakup song. With MJ asking an ex-lover (over and over) for her to remember the special times they had together. When the single was released MJ dedicated the song with love to Diana Ross. In Michael’s 1988 Autobiography titled “Moonwalk”, he stated that he had his longtime love interest and mentor, Diana Ross, in mind when he wrote the song. The accompanying Music Video for "Remember The Time" was filmed in January 1992 at the Universal Studios Hollywood backlot. Prior to the release of the video, Jackson's record label promoted it by releasing clips, as well as releasing behind the scenes clips of making the video. It premiered on ABC, NBC and Fox and BET on February 2, 1992. After the video premiered on MTV, the channel aired a special called "More Dangerous Than Ever" which included glimpses of the making of the video. This video features a physically complicated dance routine that became the centerpiece of other videos from the Dangerous album. The Music Video was generally well received by music critics with most calling it a "Gorgeous Ancient Egyptian Extravaganza".😇🙌🏽👑💛💕💫(This Short Film/Music Video premiered on my BDay February 2nd and this Short Film is such a masterpiece from the choreography,the song itself,the outfit’s,MJ’s vocals his solo dancing,the plot etc. just truly stellar Long Live The King Of Music Michael Jackson My Idol Forever! May I add that this was a very monumental Short Film/Music Video for the Black Community to be represented as true Royalty in every sense of the matter MJ honored his heritage that the media and folks tried to claim he wanted to desperately deny which couldn’t be further from the truth. Also I love MJ’s Live Performance of this song during the 1993 Soul Train Awards,who was laid up with a severely twisted ankle,gave a one of a kind memorable performance of the song while sitting in a egyptian gold throne Please React to that performance I’ll dm you it on Insta)

This song screams of pure magic and nostalgia! A perfect blend of how Michael can truly capture an emotion or feeling with his words and aura. This song is timeless in every aspect. How does he do it? MJ always seems to create these works of art and makes them something that stands the test of time. It truly is something else. The music video is pure magic. I love the theme and concept and the look! My Lord, the look! It's so unique to the song and in terms of Michael's discography and his filmography. And I believe the music video adds a whole new dimension to this masterpiece! Michael's outfit in here is so damn superior! Especially his boots! I don't know why haha. But, I am so captivated by his shoes in this video. But, his outfit overall is something you can hang in a museum and just look at all day. That's an incredible feeling you must have! To have this song premiere on your birthday! You get to share in a moment with MJ that is unique and all for you! My man!!! We were going to react to that performance in this video. But, the video was already too long. So, we're definitely going to react to that performance in a future video! Thank you again for always supporting us and reppin' us! Haters did not really know what art was. But Michael knows the art well and he loves art so much. I really enjoyed this reaction ❤ you know guys i saw a clip in which Diana Ross said that "I and Michael were in love with each other but they couldn't do anything about this". And that is sad because they both didn't get married due to their age gap. And you know in some personal tape recording Michael himself said that he wanted to marry Diana Ross and he takes so much time to get over her 😢

Another great reaction. Another song that was never off the radios at the time. It had a massive premiere (as all his songs did). MJ had no issues funding his own short films (something that went back all the way to the Thriller days). Note worthy to add is the very complex choreography here which at the time left us all open mouthed. Note that it is an all black cast which was also groundbreaking at the time. Tbh leading up to this he had been getting abuse from all communities regarding how white he was getting and that he was disregarding his culture and heritage. I remember laughing at that at the time, as MJ NEVER forgot where he came from, having donated to many many black charities, having mainly black love interests in his songs, 'Librarian Girl' and 'Wanna be startin Something' both having African elements. He was getting so much flack, so around the same time he had to do the Oprah interview. MJ is still my all-time person I deeply admire. He is still a legend.
@honey.brown.nerdrealm
@honey.brown.nerdrealm Год назад
MJ, once again breaks new ground every time he does something. He truly has impacted the culture in such beautiful and positive ways. And yet, the media still attempted to break his legacy. And I love the fact that MJ always puts his money where his mouth is. If his vision is too big for the studio, he'll just fund it himself. That just shows how much Michael truly believes in his art and has such high regard for portraying his vision. Thank you for your comment as usual! Always great hearing from you!

The gold outfit, the choreography, Eddie Murphy being jealous 😂(lets face it, as soon as MJ smiled at Iman -the Queen- Eddie didnt stand a chance!) , the Egyptian setting, MJs glorious smile at the end 😍......its all legendary! We all use that word so much when talking about Michael but, really, its truly the ONLY appropriate word to use! Btw, you definitely should check out that live performance at the 1993 soul train awards where Michael performs this song injured after spraining his ankle beforehand! Its definitely worth watching cos it proves that Michael could drive a crowd wild even while sitting on a throne on stage like the king that he was and still is!

The 90s was MJ's 4th decade in music if you count the late 60s. It's retirement or slowing down era for some artists but MJ was still doing such creative work. I agree where you guys discussed that some part of his fandom was kinda moved on because his style and sound were not the same, some grew up and people started to have opinions about his apprentices, and of course the controversies, but that mostly happened in the US and some European countries only where MJ was at his peak in the 80s. The 90s was the era of his global domination. He was charting more on international charts than in the US and his popularity was at a different level in that period. And this album was ahead of his time, all his work from the 90s is ahead of the time because most of this generation of MJ fans like his 90s work more than his 80s, including me.
@honey.brown.nerdrealm
@honey.brown.nerdrealm Год назад
Wow! Everything you said was PERFECT!!! I love the analogy of the 90's being when MJ started his global domination. That is such a fascinating way to put it! The "Dangerous" album is such a masterpiece and I truly believe this work of art is Michael's magnus opus. This is the album and era that I grew up in and it's the era where Michael let loose and showcased how much talent he has. Every era that MJ released music, he was truly king. But, the "Dangerous" era definitely created a whole new realm for Michael to dominate in! Thank you so much for your comment!

Awww, that is amazing and heartwarming when we hear how songs connect to our fondest memories. That is the true nature of music. It should connect and build a bridge to your memories. And it becomes even more special when that piece of art is a Michael song. There's something more majestic about that feeling. Knowing that such a wonderful human being created something that will forever impact each individual in a unique manner. And I completely agree with your description of this song. There's something beyond an MJ song with this one. It really showcases how the nostalgic vibe is something beautiful. He created such a emotion and a very whimsical aura to this song. It's hard to explain haha. But, I get the same feeling when I listen to a handful of songs from "Dangerous". He really went hard in the studio and created such an apex album. This will forever be top tier MJ! Thank you so much for your comment! We're so sorry it's a late reply. But, we truly appreciate when we see you in our comments! You are amazing! Thank you! Thank you so much! And Blenda went crazy on this one! She's still rocking out to it haha! Yeah, I'm still baffled how this song did not reach #1. This is a bonafied masterpiece of a hit! And it deserves to be recognized as a #1 song! Everything about this song just screams classic MJ... but, with a new twist. A more modern and urban vibe. This entire album is just a divine vibe to rock out to! Thank you so much for your comment! We genuinely appreciate you so much! He's just sooooo irresistible! I could just die! I LOVE seeing him!! And right?! It's fake news! I mean, I am not shocked, they faked so much back then, from all his controversies, trying to put him down in everyone's eyes. But watching this right now, I think they found a way to fake the charts back then because there's just no way!! This was a masterpiece! I LOVE IT! I have been listening to it non-stop! Ohhh! I have been reading so much comments about Who Is It! I cannot wait! I think that's Donovan's #1 favorite out of this album too! But right now, I don't know how I can love any other song more than this one. This one is sooooo good! I felt like I died for a moment, I couldn't contain myself. haha!! But I cannot wait for that song, I am so excited to see how it's gonna make me feel. I'm a little scared. I might not be ready. haha!! -Blenda

Hi honey and brown. Another great video reaction guys. Wow I love your reaction honey - so adorable and just how I feel too when I see this video. Back then I also thought they were crazy. But when this song came out it was so great even though we did not get to hear much play on the radio. They did not want to give the credit to MJ anymore after he really got such notoriety on his BAD concert tour. There was such a negative opinion of MJ by the media. And this video also was played down. But the story of the song being for Diana - so true. He was truly heart broken when she married and she had the audacity to invite him to the wedding - he told her he would be there - but his heart was really broken and you can't blame him. Someone uploaded a video of the song "Knife" sung by Michael's friend Rockwell (Somebody's Watching Me" - Berry Gordy's son) which portrays the broken romantic feelings and how Diana disappointed him. Honey you may cry watching it - it brings out your emotions when you see his reactions in the video and the lyrics are so sad and sweet. In his young years of fame he told the media they were going to be married!! He was serious. The media played with his emotions asking Diana if they were together too and she played it down - it had to hurt him. She did not want that image of loving a younger man to ruin her career. MJ did not care, he wanted her for so long. Eventually Diana did confess in interviews they were in love. Much later and way too late - I believe she regretted letting him go. Anyway yes you have to do the live RTT performance reaction - MJ was so wanting to dance in a wheelchair. Its cute the way he moves and does not disappoint the audience and his loving fans. So also I want to invite you to check out a video I worked on with another creator - a fanmade video of RTT performance rehearsal during DWT tour - my contribution was the intro piece. I hope you check it out in my playlist "Collab Projects With Other YT Channels". Thanks again for such a well done reaction video and the discussion. You cover so much. Well done and congrats as you soon reach 1200+ subscribers. This is so awesome and shows how much you give the MJ community and non MJ community watching. God bless you and have a lovely week. Totally loved this and looking forward to the next from Dangerous album 🥰🥰♥♥ :-) :-) King of Pop is forever and forever innocent :-) :-)

Hey! Always great seeing you in the comments! Thank you so much for always supporting us! It saddens me to know that the media were trying to break this albums legacy at the time. I'm so happy it didn't. This album was too big to destroy. The whole Diana Ross story is truly such a depressing moment for MJ. He gave her his soul and heart, and it's so sad to see that she never fully committed to him. In my heart, if those two ended up together it would have been MJ's true fairy tale happy ending. She was everything to him. She was his angel. His muse. And I don't blame Michael for not attending her wedding. What a slap in the face. To witness your true love marrying someone else. It broke Michael. And it's not like she didn't love him. She allowed the world and the media to decide for her; to not be with him. When we react to "Who Is It", there will be tons to talk about as well. And for sure! We will definitely checkout those videos on your channel! I love watching your content! Hey! Honestly, this song sounds so unique and different from the rest of the "Dangerous" album. It adds such an awesome uniqueness to the album. I think Dangerous initially sold better than Bad but either way sales were just as good as Bad. In his solo career, Michael's single sales were impressive but nothing compared to his album sales. Albums are wayyy harder to sell than singles (due to cost and often albums having 2/3 good songs and nothing more) so you find that the artists/bands that are considered the best have the best album sales. Michael albums had majority good songs. He didn't like having filler on his album. It's what makes his albums such good listens.

Sorry. But I have doubts that the song was written about Diana Ross. In an interview for BBC Radio 1Xtra Teddy Riley admitted actress Salli Richardson was HIS inspiration behind most of the songs in the album "Dangerous". When asked which songs specifically, he said: “Are you kidding? ‘Do You Remember the time when we fell in love,’ ‘I Can’t Let Her Get Away,’ ‘She Drives Me Wild’ ... SHE was my inspiration!”
