It's not quite Game of Thrones, GOT actually stands for Girls On Top, which is a reference to BoA's song of the same name, lol. BoA (pronounced "boah", like the ornament or snake) is, indeed, a 1st generation idol, she literally built SM with her success domestically and in Japan. There have been some objections about the presentation of this group, but, ultimately, no one can deny that the talent at display is simply imposing. Also, while I understand the objections apropos lyrics of Step Back which kind of revolve around the story of "defending your man from the advances of a homewrecker whom he's not really even interested in" I actually greatly appreciate the music direction of both Step Back and Stamp On It, especially Stamp On It, it's a rollercoaster of genre and key switches, utterly anarchic in its structure and therefore so signature to both SM and their goated producer, Dem Jointz. Some might have wanted an easy listening bop for the charts, that was actually the case for SuperM, the boy group counterpart of GOT, as well, but, personally, I totally understand and agree with the instinct to make their songs so grandiose, hard hitting and uncharted, because this wasn't supposed to be a run-of-the-mill collab, both GOT and SuperM were meant to be these sorts of AVENGERS OF K-POP groups. You don't have the AVENGERS singing a downbeat R&B song, you have them do exactly something like this. At least, in my opinion. Anw, thanks so much for reacting to GOT, hopefully SM brings the group back eventually.
