I live in Las Vegas Nevada where it is extremely hot for most of the year I went with the Z 51 package it wasn’t because I’m going to track it I wanted the additional cooling capacity. Everything else is just a cherry on top.

For me, it is the Heads Up display that feels like a racket on this car. Having to go up $10-15,000 in price, just to keep the car on even features with the C5Z and C6Z, C7 even, just a deal killer. If it was even something you could get aftermarket, they would sell 25% more entry level C8, but the cut out of the dash, is just too different. You really need to buy with HUD, because that is just silly, to be out-classed in such a basic feature by a C5 base model in some cases. Shame.

Great video - I just received my 2nd C8. I had a 2020 coupe and ordered it as soon as it came out. I went 2LT and no Z51, but front lift. No regrets at all on that build, but I then ordered the 2021 HTC and in my opinion that is the way to go. I rarely ever drive with the roof on, and the fact that you still have a trunk with the roof down is big. With the coupe and the roof in the trunk the trunk becomes almost useless, plus if you go somewhere and need to lock it up, putting the roof on by yourself wears thin after a while. As for me I feel the best way to go is - HTC, 2LT, non Z51, front lift, no mag ride, level one seats, factory wheels whichever one you like best, and then drive it. It was meant to be used, and enjoyed. Ty!

I have one, and agree on everything except the front end lift, If your driveway is too high, fix it only raises it a little bit. Doesn’t help with bad roads or potholes. Corvettes have been around since 1953 always been low to the ground and now you need a lift for almost 2000.
@Ownuout

I was really torn on z51. I knew the non-version was faster in tops speed, but I thought of getting the z51 for the better camber profiles that some say help the understeer at bad angles and for the looks and sound and slightly faster 0-60. Now I know it's not crucial for non-tracking. Thanks for clearing that up.

Nice vlog. I am a C-8 owner without Z-51, however I have performance exhaust and 2LT. If you opt out of the Z-51, you do not need the front lift (my C-8 has more clearance than my C-6 had) because there is no low hanging front splitter and no need for mag-ride because the non Z-51 has a perfect setting for average driving. That is over $10K in savings. Now you can upgrade wheels, seats, interior, carbon fiber and personal taste items that make the C-8 really fun. Of course if tracking the C-8, Z-51 is a must.

Great point about the front lift, besides they keep advertising that its about 2" lift but in reality its 1.5" or just under. I measured it. Do you know if it possible to get the Z51 spoiler installed at the factory as an option without the z51 option?

As to the Z51 and Mag Ride options. Weather you track the car or not, you are buying a car with a reputation for being a track car. One of the best in the world. It seems like a castrated Kentucky Derby Champion to me if it is not really able to be tracked. You are spending BIG money for the car spend a few bucks more and give it it's balls back.

Good video I bought a C8 HTC Z51 car but a 1LT. I didn’t order my car it just happen to be in the dealership when I was there. I had to have black and black interior. My car has red seats and red stitching so I was happy. I also wanted Z51 but the Hard top convertible was not necessarily an option I wanted but now that I have it wouldn’t buy a C8 without it. I personally think the HTC cars look more exotic top up or top down. I’ve had many soft top convertible’s and I never used them. But the HTC is awesome. I was forced to accept the 1LT car but I would have opted for a 2LT if I ordered the car. I’m happy tho this C8 is 95% the way I would have ordered it and I didn’t have to wait a year to get the car. I drive my cars hard and track them so the Z51 was a must. I’m definitely going to the Ron Fellows school in 2022. I’m also saving for a C8 Z06 but I will wait till 2024 to buy it. And yes it will be black.

This video was very informative. Definitely the 2LT. I do believe the Z51 package is an expensive option for the average owner. However, if you intend to track your car then I feel the Z51 package is a MUST have option. I’m on the fence with selective ride control. I may forego that option. The one option that wasn’t mentioned was the body color exterior accents. This is totally personal preference certainly. I just feel it gives the car a cleaner finished look. Based on your comments I’m certainly now considering the GT2 seats. My old body appreciates comfort. BTW we’re going to go with Museum Delivery. Now I wait for my dealer to get me an allocation. Cheers!

I agree with you on a lot of things I decided not to go with Z 51 package, because I do not plan on track in my car and I feel like I put that money elsewhere. I did decide to go with the GT two seats and the adrenaline red, 2 tone. With carbon fiber interior to dress it up. I’m still on the fence but leaning in that direction for mega ride. I love all your videos. I will go with coupe as the top down is awesome but cant see. I know the buffeting is bad in coupe but I will take safety over looks. secondly, the magride is needed as it corrects suspension bounce over large tree roots or bridge connections ect. I have ATSV with mag ride and it totally smoothed out the large tree root that would always kick me around in my Golf R. Also watch Brink of Speeds video recently on this exact topic with camera footage of car bounce without magride.

Heads Up Display, heated seats and steering wheel, and for safety reasons the rear view mirror with camera as well as the front end lift are not things that can easily be added later and are worthy every penny to move up to the 2LT, especially considering resale value, unless you absolutely can’t afford to do it.

Our 2023 3LT HTC non-Z51, performance exhaust, magnetic ride, front lift, carbon flash painted top, nacelles, mirrors, low spoiler, side blades, and many other trim pieces along with black splitter and rockers go very nicely with the Arctic White exterior. 2 tone (red/black) interior is perfect. We found this vehicle in a local dealer’s showroom with 5 miles on it, it was the exact vehicle I built on the Chevy website except I initially wanted the ceramic gray matrix because the 2020 coupe I drove when they first came out looked very good. When we saw this one it looked even better. The dealer listed it online for MSRP but when we were presented with the paperwork there was a $20,000 markup. We walked out and 2 days later they called to offer it at MSRP and and additional $1,800 on our C6 trade in. That was on 08/10/23, when we parked it for the winter, due to my emergency hip surgery, on 10/29 we had 2,210 miles on it. Every option we have on it is worth the money, we will never track it and the C7s I drove with the summer only tires were horrible below 50 degrees. We drive our Vette until there is salt on the roads, the top is always down unless it’s raining no matter what the temperature. Very good video, thank you.

I saw this video just after I finished building my dream corvette online. Too funny. Pretty much every recommendation you made...convertible, LT2, no Z51, spoiler/splitter, front lift, Napa leather two-tone red over black, etc. was what I put on my dream car. There were a couple of other things I added to suit my tastes. The biggest thing I agonized over was the carbon fiber in the interior. Eventually I chose it because I felt that there was just too much brushed nickel in the stock interior, and the carbon option complemented the LT2 seats. Personally, I'd like to see a little more carbon fiber in the interior, e.g. speaker covers, some of the other shiny trim, etc. Thanks for a great video.

Part of the Z51 package is extra cooling, and that is a big plus for any car if you are in a hot climate, even if not tracking. Z51 will also help your resale. I went with the HTC 2LT with Z51, mag ride and FEL and absolutely love every aspect of the car. That said, if my budget didn't support any options, I would have gladly gone with a 1LT coupe with no options, because it's such a great value and for street driving you'll get 95% of the performance anyway.
@superchief15
@superchief15 3 года назад
Z51 weighs more and the weight has more of an impact then the 5 hp you gain is worth. You get e slip and slid summer tires on the Z51 and the Stingray has a better ride the a Z51 will ever get you without magride. The best option for a C8 is alway run 93 octane or better Gasoline. The Z51s at Spring Mountain were operated on California 91 octane and my C8 runs strong on 93!
@supergoat06
@supergoat06 2 года назад
I wish GM allowed parts of the Z51 to be added. The performance exhaust without buying the whole z51 isnt really worth it imo when u can spend 2k later on and put a corsa system on it. I wish they would allow ppl to add the ELSD, performance axle ratio, and heavy duty cooling. Personally those are the 3 things I'd want and then just doing the magnetic ride control option that isnt part of the Z51 package. Then just later on add a aftermarket exhaust. I feel like not having the Z51 would kind of suck not having all the traction options. The only track use I get is driving on Watkins Glen, which they are "spirited 55mph laps" I went up a couple times when i had my built srt8 challenger and usually was only going about 70-80, occasionally go up around 110 but only on weekends that there wasn't a lot of cars on the track. So Im not sure Z51 would really be needed for that. Z51 I feel is great on 2LT coupe, but the LT1 seems a good value on convertible builds, but I wish the 1LT conv could have a GT2 seat added. 7k from a 1LT to 2LT conv for 4 more speakers and a infotainment upgrade and then 1500 for a gt2 seat just doesnt seem worth it. I dunno im so conflicted on what I want to do lmao. Im holding out waiting to order a '23 and hoping GM would add new colors, or make some more stuff standard on the 1LT and perhaps tweak the way some options can be done without whole packages. I guess I will have to wait and see, if nothing changes I guess i'll prob just go with a 1LT conv and save some money and with money saved supercharge it vs a 2lt z51 coupe.

I wish I had an option to just pay more for some of the interior color options on a lower level trim model. I really want an LT 2 with tension blue interior but I’m not willing to pay the up charge for an LT3 just for the option of paying an extra fee on top of that.

After a lot of research and learning a lot about the C8 below are my order list and my reasons not to get some of the options that many buyers needlessly buy. I did not order the Z51 package as I never track and I also saved $6,345. Very relieved that I am also getting the Michelin all-season tires instead of the summer only tires that come with the Z51. In my state of Colorado having the high performance all-season Michelin tires is a must and very necessary. Just the cold winter temperatures will ruin the rubber on the summer tires. So be smart and be careful when you customize your new C8. I did not order the NPP, the Performance Exhaust, saved $1,195 and I do not need louder sounding exhaust. The standard exhaust sounds loud enough and sounds very sweet too. I ordered the 2LT Coupe, it is the best value C8 model. 1LT is very basic and lacks many options. The 3LT is way over-priced and it just includes more interior leather. FE2 Magnetic Selective Ride Control Suspension, I can customize my ride just the way I would like it depending on road conditions. Also ordered the Front Lift. Very important option to add to save and protect the bottom of your nice C8. I also ordered the GT2 seats plus the 2-tone option as I love how the 2-tone seats look compared to the all mono boring color. GT2 seats with the 2-seats option is $1,890. GT2 seats which is standard on the 3LT, but I still saved thousands by choosing the 2LT over the 3LT. The exterior color I ordered is the fantastic new for 2022 Hypersonic Gray with the beautiful Sky Cool Gray interior. These are my taste and I think it is a fantastic built. A bonus hint ....do not order any accessories when building your C8 at Chevrolet, they all are ridiculously over-priced. Wait till you get your C8 delivered and then order what you need from after market online. For example, I bought the original Corvette mud guards for about half price on eBay. They sell for $255 at Chevrolet.

@@CarsCostsandTechnology Thanks a lot. My new 2022 C8 should be delivered to me close to Xmas, so it will make a wonderful present. I understand that in 2 days, on 9/22/21, my order with Chevrolet should hit 3000, which means Chevrolet will let me know when the production week will be. Corvettes are taking longer time to be built these days due to parts shortage and possibly Covid. I hope China to go where the devil resides.

I have a 3LT, Z51 Long Beach Red with Morello red interior and just love it! I have had several people tell me this is the best looking C8 they have seen, from what I can figure out there are only 53 2020 Corvette's Long Beach red with Morello red interior.

I enjoyed the video. I purchased a 1lt in 2020 and have no real regrets. I am old school so the jet black interior was the only way to go. It's very practical and doesn't show scuff marks. The only option I can't agree with you on is the lift option. The car has a decent amount of ground clearance so unless you have a driveway with a nasty edge no need for this option. It just adds unwanted weight and complexity to the car. The two options I do miss are the automatic mirrors and rear view camera. I don't live in a area that has a lot of traffic lanes so it isn't a big issue. The rear camera would be nice for multi lane and city traffic. I bought the car for its performance so I opted for the z51 package and magnetic ride control.

You don't miss the HUD? I just can't get what would be my 4th Corvette without a heads up display. I am stuck at C6Z. I try to upgrade with every new series, but I can't afford it, without stripping the car down to below what I have. It's bad enough, I have to take a 10 horsepower drop to get to C8 ( I understand mid-engine go faster, blah blah) , but to lose the HUD, I would just feel fleeced.

Great review! I never see the two-tone black and gray seats shown, which was my choice on my 21 ELB 2LT HTC, Non-Z51, Mag ride and front lift. Is the two tone black and gray just considered gray? I have been very happy with these options. I was concerned going all gray that it would show everything, this option has worked great and had a mostly black dash which I prefer.

Thanks! I really appreciate the feedback. I think you're referring to Sky Cool Gray with the 2 tone seat option. Unfortunately, there are too many small customizations available to show everything on video, but I bet that looks really good 👍🏻

What a wonderful evaluation! I addressed all those concerns and couldn't agree more! I opted for the 2LT to get the camera/blind-spot assist, plus the exhaust feature and the two-tone black & natural cockpit int. I want ride, A/C, and sound. My ciffee colored chariot delivers in spades.

Does the GT1 seat give more clearance than the other seats between your legs and the steering wheel? In the still shot it looks like it sits a little lower or is at least angled differently on the front end.

Good food for thought. You explained two types of c8 buyers but theres a third and a possibly a fourth type of buyer. The third type of buyer is the one thats on the fence of whether to keep the car or sale it to recoop resale value. I can tell you after buying a c8 z51 2lt and saling it that the only thing you possibly should put on the car and recoup high resale is z51. Most of these models sold for over 92k which was almost a 20k recoup in cost. Also don't add extra insurances warranties on this car if your planning to quickly resale! I made 92k after saling my fully loaded car so i didnt gain or loose money but the only people who made money were 1lt owners in this market! I also think from listening to your video that I disagree with the seat and leather options. I found the 1lt seat to be more comfy than all the seats. So its definately subjective. I found the lift half useful as well as hud. I liked the rear camera and i think that this roof mounted camera is included as base on all convertibles. The real remorse for me is that i didnt just get a 1lt base c8 in convertible with possibly a z51 for sound and spoiler. That to me was the jack of all trades and will probablyborder like this for an e-ray or z06.

Hi, my dealer in San Leandro, California called me on Thursday 9-16 and told me that my order is up and gave me only 1 day, meaning same day decision, to decide on the options. So I ordered the 2LT, Front Lift and Mag Ride and Perf Exhaust and the new Rear Spoiler. Was not sure about the Front Lift and the Mag Ride, but hey, after 14 months of waiting, I just want to get it over with. Torch Red and Natural Tan inside with Tan Seat Belts. No upgrade wheels, just went with the stock wheels though. Feeling so relieved after putting the order in. Right or wrong. Partly thanks to this video and the comments, especially from Ric Ric about the Mag Ride, that I made up my mind on the Front Lift and the Mag Ride. I told my wife that we will use this new car to go down to LA to visit my daughter more often, and she seems to be OK with it. He he.

Greetings … at 62 years old - we never had camera assistance for 50 years prior to this technology… We have eyes and ears. My Stingray LT1 Z51 Coupe visibility is just fine. Try driving the ZL1 1LE. That’s the car that needs visibility assistance.imo. Also , the C8 doesn’t need the front end lift. My GT350R is the car that needs it. I also have a GT3 with front end lift… it sits lower than the C8. The base seat in the C8 is far more comfortable than the other variants. Hope this information is helpful

Lift kit: We had a c6 (in germany) and it scaped the front at our driveway all the time. Our C8 (without lift kit) actually doesnt scrape and never scraped anywhere. So for me personally i think the lift kit is not needed at all for the C8 since the shorter front.

The big one you see at the end if the video is available as an option. Its 1250$ for the ‘22 year. You can get it in black, or body colored for red, blue and white. From what I’ve seen, if you get that with the 1LT though, you’re not gonna be able to see out the back at all, so definitely get the camera with that

Love the information, I ordered my C8 Sept 2nd, after seeing the Video, I won't be using the car on the track so I won't be getting the Z51 package, I do have a question about the difference in price for the 3LT interior over the 2LT as that wasn't mentioned in the Video, I'm going for the 3LT but have seen other comments that the 3LT was a waste of money, I want the black interior with the red stitching and was told that's the only way you can get it was 3LT package?
@CarsCostsandTechnology
@CarsCostsandTechnology 3 года назад
Thanks for the feedback 👍🏻 Glad you found the video helpful. Your are correct that the red stitching is only available on 3LT. If you're going with GT2 seats those are also standard on 3LT so that takes $1,500 off of the $4,650 difference. Plus another $395 for the red stitching option. Depending on how you look at it you're paying almost $5,000 for the red stitching which is why I didn't go that route, but if you're already going with GT2 seats it's only a $3,500 difference from 2LT.

That black stripe on the side is ugly. It’s a $995 option to get rid of it. Mine, that’s coming in shortly is all red, as it should be.
