Just as a public service, I built a similar cart several years ago. I used steel wheels from Harbor Freight that had about 1/8" or so of rubber around the steel wheel. Loaded the cart and it would not move. The weight of the material flat spotted the wheels. I went to the web and got some new wheels. I believe they are a phenolic and are rated for about 800 Lbs each and are 6" Dia and about 2" wide with grease fittings. I replaced the HF wheels with the new ones and reloaded. The rack would now move with one hand. And, I had to be careful about getting it moving too fast! In any event, my experience, no rubber, solid wheels with high weight rating and you will be forever happy. Love those wheels (and the rack).

I just made this - doesn't look like they allow pix here or I'd upload a couple. I made a few mods. I didn't rip down the 2x4 and 2x6 pieces. Made this in the garage where it will live, and the table saw is two stories down - we live on a hill. Rather than taper the ends of the slanted studs that make up the cutting surface, I notched them like you would a roof beam - 1.5" at the top, then down .75 inches at bottom over 5.5" and it fits pretty well on mine. The angled pieces are six feet tall and they angle back about a foot. If you do the math, I think it comes out to .7" at the bottom of the notch. The total width of mine is 24", so it'll fit tucked away next to the garage wall and won't interfere with the garage door. RAM 1500 just barely fits through the door, so the cart had to be a bit smaller. It's got 10 piece of plywood on it now - which should work fine for my purposes. I had some pre-finished plywood laying around. I used that for the surface where the plywood sits, so the plywood sheets slide more easily into and out of the cart. I also had a few 2x4s left, so I used one and some of my left over plywood to make a small tray at the top of the cart for the Bora track. I've had one for three years and agree it's a great poor man's track saw - much much cheaper and you can make great cuts with it - to about 1/32" accurate I've found. The vertical studs are spaced every two feet on mine. I didn't see reason to space them more closely. it's plenty strong. Definitely get the castors with brakes. Can't imagine using this without them.

I purchased the plans and built this cart. It cleaned up a corner of my shop, provides me with a safe and easy way to cut panels (including the panels you need to cut to make this cart!). It was too tall to fit through a door but a simple adjustment solved that problem. The 110" BORA rail fits on the top for storage. I added a 1x3 strip inside the panel cutting side to hang clamps. I think it makes a difference to cut off the rounded edges of the construction lumber and it is worth it to me that I bough premium lumber for the job. My cost is under $200 including lumber, casters, construction grade screws and the BORA rail guide and it is worth every bit of that. I was concerned that it would take up too much space in my shop but the storage of sheet material, clamps and the BORA rail means that It actually opened up space in my shop. I think that I will change the panel bottom supports from 3/4" plywood to 1 1/2" leftovers from the material I used to build the cart. Thanks, James for a great design that is easy to build and for the valuable video describing the build process. I recommend this project to anyone who needs a low cost panel cutter with storage.

Just found this project and love the simplicity of it, and I have worked out how to use on my current wood cart and now clamping strategies are under consideration so well done you = it is so much better than more expensive ideas. love the spacer idea and thinking about making a moveable dowel gauge for setting distances for parallel cuts

Just finished building my panel cart. crosscutting the first time plywood was kind of hairy but ripping is a dream. Also gave me a chance to use the panel track i bought at a woodworking show over 20 years ago and never used. so far i love this cart.

I built this. Your plans were great and easy to follow. I made a couple modifications. under the sloped panel cutting side I added a few cross pieces and now store all my long pieces of dowel. I also use the verticle ends to hang my yard/meter sticks. I also store the new (suggested) track saw right on the rack and the extension up top using a couple small corner brackets. I compared a few different designs and went with this one because of the added panel cutting option. Thanks again!

I followed you plans and built this storage rack. The only change I made was to set the panel saw rack a couple of inches lower to allow it to clear my garage door. I have very limited shop space so putting everything on wheels is a must for me. This storage rack and panel saw combo works great. Thanks for a great idea!

Just built the storage side of this cart yesterday, and I'm VERY happy. I don't know if I'm going to build the panel cutting backside, though, as I already have a sacrificial table built up for that - but it's a FANTASTIC idea! I think I'm going to build up lumber racks for dimensional material instead.

Yea , OK , good little project and useful. Been in the process of making mine , but had a RTA in which I broke my back ( T11 ) three ribs and had a severe internal head bleed. However after 6 months of recovery I am thinking of getting back into the shed and starting again . Yeeaaaaaa ! Oh and thankyou for your ever welcome videos.

Thanks James. I just bought the plans but will 'shrink' them a bit to suit my needs, as I very rarely use full-size plywood sheets. I'll probably end up using some of your design and some of Steve Ramsey's design for a mobile lumber storage cart, to create my own Frankenstein version. :)

I did as you just did using the screws that came with the casters bad idea it only took about 2 months and I was replacing the screws with longer screws .Oh well even at 76 years old you just keep proving to my self life is just one long learning curve and there is no end in sight. We bought the plans. so excited to make this, not only for plywood, but for large paintings as well. Fascinating to see what the estimated materials cost was a year ago...150-ish.... Cheapest lumber I can find for this in march 2021 is about 250. Not counting the screws. Someday we will be able to afford to make this.

This is a simple, affordable option. I'm just in the process of building a lean-to workshed (external dimensions 17.5' x 9') so a slightly narrow version of this cart will be perfect for me. Being able to use this breakdown sheets will be much easier using this vs moving stuff around in the new space to set up and support to use my table saw.

Very good idea for a mobile plywood cart. I've either worked or managed many cabinet/closet shops in the last 30+ years and this is about the best and quickest cart I've seen.... and trust me... I have seen plenty of carts!!! Maybe adding a permanent power cord/plug box on it may help as well. You'll always need power to saw sheets. Thanks James for all the great ideas!!!

I wanted to see you roll that cart with all the plywood on it. I upgraded the casters twice on the one I built about 10 years ago and finally went with 10' pneumatic tires. Thanks for the tip on the track. It really looks appealing.

Great build idea. My only change is to make it a bit narrower and lighter using 2x3s. I need it to be a bit smaller for my shop when stowed away, but can still handle a full sheet when rolled out.

I love this idea, what a great design. Watching you assemble it too instantly justifies your choice to keep the carpet. That looks way more pleasant than a concrete floor.

I have a Bora track as well. Take your Bora offset spacer and another piece of scrap and sandwich the rail between them. Add a piece to bridge the two. It should slide on and off the track fitting snugly. I made two of them. Now when you make your cut marks, put these jigs into the track and line the jig edge up with the cut line. My jigs are tight and don't side. Clamp the track down and pull off the spacer jigs. Your saw will cut on the line without having to make any additional marks or measurements.

This is a great idea. Taking advantage of something that alot of woodworkers want anyway, a sheet storage cart. Personally I prefer the carts made from sheet material. I think this could be improved on without much cost to have a tape scale running the length and height and a homemade simple track with t-track running around the perimeter so the horizontal or vertical tracks can be locked in place quickly and easily.

I JUST built a similar cart last week! :-( I may tear mine apart and redo it like this! I like the idea of the 6” wheels - I used 4” and they are pretty hard to move when it is full of lumber. I tried using the edges of the cart framing and when I pushed on the cart one wheel collapsed on itself! Talk about a heart-pounding moment!!! I then had to completely unload the cart and rebuild it with a better bottom... then reload it again...

Bora Tools has upgraded and improved their WTX saw guide clamp system with the newer and better NGX syste. All WTX accessories work with the newer NGX system.

I always wrestled with sheet stock on sawhorses at home, but the panel saw at work was much easier to work with. So, I finally decided to buy a panel saw to use at home. I priced a couple of models, and decided on wrestling sheet stock on saw horses instead since the price of [panel saw was well in excess of OMG.

I haven't purchased your plans yet, but plan do later today. I like the concept, but wondered if you considered adding a pulley system to make it easier to cut through some of the thicker pieces of plywood?

I really like this integrated idea. Do you have any guides or suggestions on using the track guide. I keep getting a wavy cut like blade is deflecting as I go down the track.

Very Nice. I would emphasize that the to of the panel should be clamped solidly in at least two places at the top when ripping to prevent the top ripped piece from binding the blade and/or falling over.

Genius. Thanks for posting. Just 2 weekends late for me. Just built a plain old 4x8 cart with no panel cutting component. Would have been a much more effective way of cutting sheets for me than lugging on to bench. No space for both. Can’t bring myself to bin the first one. Maybe adapt it? First world problems eh?
