MV Thirsty Whale, Anchor Chain Shackle Pin Safety, and End of Season Update

After seeing my friend Jeff ‪@eternitysshore‬ lose his anchor because the shackle pin worked its way loose, I knew I had to get to safetying mine...because I didn't do that when I had my anchor off the boat last off-season. Also included is a quick marina and end of season update for me and Thirsty Whale. Enjoy!

Yeah that battery scared the sheeit out of me, and I'm so glad I was on board when it happened. 15 days to go!

Thanks Chad! I'm actually editing my video this week. Since I didn't get a real good close-up as you did, I'll reference yours. Nice job! I actually used 2 shackles and a swivel connector, which was probably unnecessary, but it's a long story...

Thanks Jeff! I watched your latest video as well, and while 2 shackles really needed, the solution works fine since the chain didn't fit the swivel. Nice job as well. Looking forward to your next one!

My 381 was also not safetied when we purchased it this spring. I used .041” SST wire like we use for safety wiring prop bolts. Overkill but I had it with me after doing an inspection on a plane.

That's where I learned how to properly safety wire...12 years working at an FBO, owning two Cherokees, and building an RV-7 taught me a lot!

Nice one Chad. LOL, my anchor does not have a safety wire, good call. I would be sick if I lost an anchor. Looks like a project for next spring, my boat is put away already. Cheers!

As mentioned...most of the anchors I could see did not have a safety. Now, there are a couple of ways to safety, and thread locker is one way...but I don't fully trust thread locker, so safety wire, for me, is the best choice. Easy spring project for ya!

We were wondering where you were! Good thing you are not here, water is off, and Scot said they were pulling the batteries out of the code lock so not late night access! We are leaving today, haul out is tomorrow.

Yeah it was a good decision to stay here. Water is still on, tho I do have a full 65 gal water tank to tap in to once it does get shut off. I have key access to the clubhouse until I’m out in a couple weeks, so all good here!

we had a almost full water tank buy shower ran by it self so we ran out!
