Keeping with the maxim "a boat is just a hole in the water where your money goes". I think the owners got a great deal. You put so much love and care in to her.

My opinion there are two types of boaters. There are the ones that get into boating as a hobby and those that are into boating because it is a large part of their lifestyle and it is who they are. Those that think owning a boat would be a good hobby to have are usually disappointed in the boating experience and realize it is too expensive of part time hobby. I always feel sorry for the ones that show up at their boat on a pretty Saturday morning for the first time in a couple of weeks and are surprised see that the boat is covered in dirt, tree pollen, spiders and bird crap, and then they find out that the battery is dead and the bulge is filled up with water. ( not a fun hobby) Those of us that consider boating a life style are the ones that have no other place we would rather be then at the marina, working on our boats, talking with other boaters and being out on the water. We also own a couple thousand dollars worth of tools and a bunch of raggedy and oil stained cloths that others would be embarrassed to be seen in. I think probably every boat project that you showed yourself doing on the Thirsty Whale would have cost you over a thousand dollars in labor costs if you had paid someone to do the work for you. ( hopefully you also enjoyed or got some satisfaction out of doing the repairs and modifications) Finally, did you accidentally on purpose forget to include how much your boat broker took from the final sale price of the boat?

Very well said Greg. :o) I have a rough idea of how much money I saved by doing the majority of the maintenance work...it's a lot! And did I accidentally on purpose forget the brokerage fee...I did ;o). I put that in the fees bucket, same bucket as slip fees and storage fees. It did cut in to the proceeds check, but I am happy to pay that fee to not have to deal with all the phone calls and emails to get to a showing.

Good deal, Chad. As someone who never seems to make any money on the sale of anything, I would consider this one a break even. After all, you did use it for a couple seasons so that could be factored in too. Either way, great deal and now you can look forward to your next adventure! Cheers!

Absolutely right...I should have mentioned in the video that the value I got from owning and operating Thirsty Whale more than makes up for any monetary loss in the sale of the boat. With that factored in, it was more than enough to cover! Cheers!

Chad ✋️ wait, how can you put a price on your adventures in Thirsty-Whale, as I recall you and your father traveled up the Wisco coast, time together is priceless, I traveled the Rt66 ride with the National HOG group, 35 days out and back.... what did it cost me?? I can't tell you the dollar amount, but I can tell you it was a trip of a lifetime... Cheers!!! Scott from The Northwoods of Wisconsin..

You are absolutely right Scott! I would never put a price on the experience, as it was...priceless. I just wanted to put the numbers out there, because viewers have asked. I'm not at all concerned about the money. It was all about the experience...which was why it was so emotional in the closing video. Cheers!

Asking price AND you didn’t have to fix anything else to settle. I know you’re used to making a little scratch but I’d also consider that a wash. Plus you lived aboard for a time and I assume that saved you thousands more. Just giving an alternate perspective. Looking forward to seeing the prospects as you turn your attention there.

Nailed it Jeff! The value of enjoyment and fun on Thirsty Whale more than makes up for a small financial loss in my book. I should have mentioned that in the video. Cheers my friend!

what was the fuel consumption in that boat miles per gallon
@WiscoBoater
@WiscoBoater 6 месяцев назад
All depends on the speed...at my cruise of 20kts, about 0.5mpg
@germanlopez4134
@germanlopez4134 6 месяцев назад
@@WiscoBoater how do you calculate that and is that per engine?
@WiscoBoater
@WiscoBoater 6 месяцев назад
@@germanlopez4134 I had to edit my reply...fat fingers and I didn't notice the other day. At 20kts, I got just over a half mile per gallon. Best I could get for mileage was 8kts, burning 10gph, which gives about 0.8mpg. That is the total for both engines. Take the speed and divide by the fuel burn to get mpg. 20kts (23mph), divided by 42gph is a just over half mile per gallon. Top speed of 31mph, burns about 68gph and .45mpg. Thirsty Whale has FloScan gauges to provide real time gallons per hour, so it was easy to calculate any time.
