Glad to see this jeep back on the road. So far my 07 commander 185k miles has had no coolant loss or lifter problems, the 70k mile spark plugs may need to go and does need new pads and resurfaced brake rotors

Hey Grant, great to see you got the Commander back. I have had mine about 10 months now and really enjoy the Hemi. I have averaged about 13.5 mph during this time with almost 182K on the clock. Mine also did not have a spare, but you can use JK wheels, but need a spacer to move the wheels from the calipers. It has been a typical Jeep, always finding things that need fixed or replaced. I have replaced the front differential bushings, which is very common, due to a 'clucking' noise when the transmission would go from reverse to forward. That has been the most difficult repair to date. However, I really enjoy driving it, and like you have I have an '03 Rubicon and got tired of rowing gears. Hope you have great success with the Commander and I really enjoy your content.

Doug THANK YOU! I do have a clunk going from Reverse to Drive which I hadn't even started looking at yet, so I think you just solved that for me, I'll take a look into replacing that bushing. Sounds like it's going to be a project to replace.

@@RustyAutoholicGuy it was quite the project. I have a lift in my garage, but no trans jack. A good transmission jack would help a lot. The diff is bulking and awkward to handle, not to mention quite heavy for one person. I watch several videos and got some pointers before I started. BTW the Qudra Drive II system is almost as good as the Rubicon locker system. I have been impressed with mine.

There is something very unique about how the Commander feels inside. I am referring to the upright dash, how the ceiling extends further over the driver than in most vehicles, the upright windshield, the shape of the hood from the driver’s perspective, idk there is just something about it that love and cannot get over. Plus, the HEMI just takes it to another level. Effortless acceleration. Deep quiet rumble. Quiet interior. Super smooth ride. I’m dying for one. I love my 2011 Grand Cherokee, but there is something about a HEMI-equipped Commander I love a little more. Ideally, it would be a 2008-2010 Commander Limited or Overland, with the 5.7L HEMI and Quadra-Drive II with an immaculate-condition interior and exterior, dealership maintained, no wrecks, etc. I can’t find one. They were only made for a handful of years and that was a long time ago. Now, they are hard to find even if I’m willing to fly to buy one and drive it home. They all have high miles. I wonder if it would still be worth buying a higher mileage Commander and putting a new engine or transmission in it, or both. Might be a project for me once I graduate college and am finally out on my own.

You're right... I bought my '06 hemi Commander new in 1/07 and after 146k miles haven't been able to part with it to this day.

I would love to buy one of these and put a new engine in it.

The new engine works great, but it was expensive with the install, came out to almost $6500 but I really didn't have the expertise or the equipment to remove and install a Hemi engine myself.

What happened to the original motor? I’m looking to get a commander with the hemi. Is any year better than the other in your opinion?
@RustyAutoholicGuy
@RustyAutoholicGuy 10 месяцев назад
I was out of town which is why I missed this. The early Hemi's have a problem in the heads with valve stems I believe. I had the engine rebuilt which also fixed the head problems with a new design as well. I'm working on fixing a few other things up on the Commander and then I'll be selling it. I just got a Gladiator because I do just enough things where having a truck is better than a Commander and I don't need both.

You don't need 93 and won't gain any advantage for the increased octane. Wait until you stomp on the brake thinking it's the clutch

Yeah I'm sure I will but I have't yet. I keep leaving my hand on the shifter though, I need to get out of that habit!

I found it online, I'll have to look up the company, however mine is now leaking, I'm not sure from where yet but I'm going to have to pull it out to figure out the leak.

tip if it setting for a year or 20 drain gas and break fluid before it is to set and ruin ideally heck it would not hurt to add a gallon diesel to fuel tank and cycle the fuel pump [i would write a note that their diesel in tank i would possibly forget or if you sell it ] and as fer break fluid it sucks water and change break fluid guys i know we ignore it but look into what it is chemically and then do it .and change old 20 year old rubber break lines.and to any one worried about it messing crap up no it would not hurt an NA engine drain it out or just add high octane fuel 5 galleonZ min to that gallon it would run fine but drain it ideally

I use when I need to transport the family but mostly I'm driving the smart car because of fuel prices. Hemi gets like 14mpg in town, the Smart Car with the 3-cylinder Turbo Diesel gets 50mpg in town.

Hey buddy, I hated to see the video when you told us the motor blew. I'm looking at a 2007 Commander this week,with the Hemi. Obviously, I suppose I should request a maintenance log and see if spark plugs,etc have been changed. Is there any advice or additional questions you could tell me? Thank you in advance but if you don't see this I totally understand. You take care

Hey sorry for the late reply, first week of school for my kids so it's been a bit crazy here! Unfortunately there was a design flaw in the early Hemis where they could drop a valve if they got to hot which is what my motor did. I would look at a later model Commander, after 2008 I believe when Chrysler addressed the issues with the valve guides in the heads of the Hemi.

@@RustyAutoholicGuy hey no problem I have kids as well,about out of school now but I definitely understand how hectic it can get. Thank you for the reply, I am new to the Commander, actually had NO IDEA about the model at all. I had a 1990 Cherokee Limited that I loved,what a great Jeep that was. Take care
