Fromsoft was cunning to get such a respected channel to preview this. They know Smough is one of the very best channels in terms of reaching their audience
@@ThommyofThenn The symbolism and accompanying metaphor of "crossing the threshold" is a theme From uses for good reason: it is universal and powerful. Rebirth cannot occur if death does not precede it. Duality of observable reality.
There were two wolves inside me. One plagued with the desire to catch a glimpse of the DLC, and the other was adamant in refusing to see any spoilers so I can experience it firsthand. The first wolf won, but with my bad memory I’m sure the spoilers won’t really matter a few weeks from now.
@@cosseybombthey literally have hair and beards and we already know these guys actually have bodies tossed in to burn them so it’s likely not a stone carving. The heads are those things attached to its hips at 8:48. Plus they have the head of a dragon inside the cage and the head of a horse and none of them look like stone carvings.
@@been_rly_n2_paragliding_lately what reason would we have to assume they are masks though when we already know everything else at least are real ppl and animals inside of it. It probably is a mask but it just seems like it fits more to have it be an actual face
@@godly_potatoe69xd19 hair has been placed on masks for centuries around the world.. definitely isnt uncommon.. pause the video when they are close and you can clearly see they are carvings
Thank you so much for the timestamps and keeping the lore spoilers to a minimum here. I started watching Vaati's video and got something really cool spoiled pretty much right away. I will watch this one cautiously, because overall I want to go into this dlc as blind as possible, but it's hard to deny how curious I am about many aspects of this dlc.
DAWGGG CARIAN FILIGREED CREST “ direct retainers to the kingdoms princesses. Now there is only one princess ranni daughter of rennala.” “PRINCESSES” THEY TEASED THE SISTER LONG AGOOOOOO??
I think that the first part of the "Scadutree" word, comes from "sceadu", an old english word, that means: shadow, darkness. I don't know if that's obvious or not, english is not my native language. But, yeah, it's basically the "Shadowtree".
Yeah, like always it's just a stylized english translation. In japanese they are just Golden Tree and Shadow Tree, I love how the translation team can add so much charm to english speaking audiences with old english and welsh translations.
@Martedamm the names were probably written in English by George RR Martin, they match the way that 'weirwood' in A Song of Ice and Fire is constructed, which would either derive from were-wood (literally man-wood, which certainly has parallels to the Erdtree being composed of/fed by bodies and blood. If you've read ASoIaF you'll know that the weirwoods seem to share those blood sacrifice qualities with the Erdtree), or possibly derives from wyrd-wood (wood with the power to control destiny, which would be similarly fitting and also parallels the Erdtree). Erdtree = earth tree, i.e. world tree Haligtree = holy tree Helphen = help or helper Scadutree = shadow tree Weirwood = either man-wood or destiny-wood
I was so happy to see this video and the opportunity they provided the community, but specifically, YOU! You are one of my absolute favorite content creators when watching anything Elden Ring. You more that deserved this! As always, thanks for taking the time to create and share this video. And thanks for splitting it into two, you did a great job of not providing much info that hasn't already been released.
That's super kind of you! Thank you so much - I was absolutely delighted to attend and looking forward to sharing lore stuff for those interested later this week!
That beautiful view of the great tree dominating the horizon will always be special. Also, giving the backhand swords, I wonder if we are going to see some Captain Levi builds😂
Smough my man it pains me to say this but I just can't bring myself to watch this before the DLC comes out. I want to go in totally fresh and unspoiled but as always this is the video I WOULD have been waiting for so I'm dropping this comment and a like because you are the man.
@SmoughTown omg! Ty for the reply. You're such a wholesome guy. Please continue the work you do. 🙏 you're videos help me relax. St. Trina procs to help me sleep 😴
My gosh, just that preview makes me excited for the DLC. That Wickerman boss is far more impressive than I thought, along with that Lion Dance boss. I love the movesets of from the new weapons, and I love that certain weapons can be thrown. And if people were confused over names before, along comes Relanna. :p
Maybe I'm alone in this, but I'm just so giddy about the perfume bottle weapon type. Perfumers are such neat enemies and I find their lore so interesting, as limited as it is. Actually getting to do a propter cosplay build as one without needing to farm materials for hours sounds like a dream come true...
I don't feel much in general so it's really special to feel glee and delight. Thank you Bandai and Fromsoft for making me giddy! I cant wait to read some of those sweet sweet item descriptions. And of course, thank you SO MUCH to our friend Smough
I am actually glad that 13:17 is just a normal enemy instead of a boss. I was worried From Software just randomly dropped Godwyn or an Omen super boss on us.
You were smart to wait a bit, reveal and exploit the missing stuff other creators didn't mention. Good on you, boy. Love your content man. You and Zion are definitely my favs
Glad to know you were one of the content creators that was called to test the DLC, your review was one of the best ones, can’t wait to get the dlc myself. And about you don’t defeating Rellana, i guess you just have to “Git Gud” hahahahaha. Anyways, im anxious for the lore focused part of your review and thanks for the Review and be safe Geoff. See you in the next one.
I watched Vaatis, Doms and i will now watch your video and then go blind. Probably not going to watch the launch trailer so see you after the DLC Smough! I am beyond excited for the things we will discover and the lore content from you!
I can't help but be reminded of the cocoons in the Haligtree when I see those fly wing creatures, especially given Miquella's apparent wings in the art from the opening of the game.
OMG this is the 15th video of the DLC, has noone played a freakin' mage?! Although I am a quality player myself, I saw that there was a faith/int build, why is nobody talkin' about this..?
Great video man. I think everyone can relate to those one hit jitters. I think I have at the very least, been one hit away on every major boss, then the next few attempts couldn't get halfway through their health. Had to order a new controller because of it. A good modern art piece would be peoples faces of them dying one hit away from defeating Malenia.
I think this confirms: -smoldering butterfly is representing Melina, meaning she is a demigod -the spirits haunting the omen are probably the spirits of the horned people of the shadow lands. -Marika probably had to sacrifice a bunch of people to ascend to Godhood. I wonder if a similar fate is in store for the followers of miquella.
Not gonna watch cause I want to go in blind but still wanted to show some love and drop a like to my favorite peeps regardless. Glad you guys got to play early. Everyone seems to be on the same page that the DLC is better than they could have hoped. See you all in the Land of Shadows in a few weeks 🤘🏿
Did you find the invader called something like 'Powderfinger Nail'? I've not seen any preview videos mention it, but was found by descending into the central river valley. He had a gun!
Thanks for the preview info. Really excited! That said damn... looks like it isnt an instanced based leveling system like Destiny/FFXIV but a perk based one that mitigates damage... meaning the lvl 90 I got to endgame to test the leveling system out is going to have a really tough time lol
Tbh I can't wait for the second part that's a bit spoiler heavy, I know it's not for everyone but I just can't help it lol, I'm hopelessly addicted to trying to make sense of this rich and crazy world!
I’m glad we’re finally getting a proper Carian Warrior Queen boss. Considering Caria’s entire schtick is that they’re masters of the blade while having a high IQ, I feel like they missed out with Rennala, considering how she gets folded like a paper plane the second you get close. I’m also super excited about the new gravity magic they showed off. It reminds me a lot of a Hunter Tether from Destiny, in how it locks the enemy in place and opens them up for big damage
A stray thought about the new Omen like enemy; We know that the omen enemies in the base game are born with influence of the crucible. It stands to reason that omens could be born with features beyond just horns such as a more animalistic anthropometry similar to Misbegotten who appear as if they have only recently evolved above a quadrupedal stature.
Martial arts as a weapon instead of an ash of war is amazing plus the odachi sheesh I’m hyped🔥 I hope to see some more sekiro like arts an maybe some lore on the lands of reeds 🙏🏼
that Milady sword will be a fountain of memes... I dont wanna go into full lore speculation too much but I feel like the Scadutree seems like a subversion of the erdtree the erdtree as pretty as it is feels like a cancerous parasite in many ways and the withered scadutree comes off like a deathly counterbalance that was left in ruin. Awesome job playing the tester and getting the info! .... My ongoing thirstfest for the carian family continues....
I am unwarrantedly excited for perfume builds! I always wanted to do one but due to the rarity of perfume bottles it's firmly in my "If I ever make it to NG+7". Not anymore!!
It's wild that even with the massive amount of weapons and weapon types etc. in the base game, the DLC is giving us even more options now for destroying our foes. Plus you have to give it to Fromtsoft: taking something like dragon dancing and using it to create a boss (the Dancing Lion) and then just create something that looks so uncanny that just looking at it makes me feel somewhat uncomfortable, like going face to face with something that shouldn't exist within normal logic. But goes to show just how bad it was when Messmer invaded: something meant to be for worship turned to warfare.
