I know there are caps on what you can save in different retirement accounts, but at that age with that income you can both live comfortably on less than $75k easily and be hoarding money into many different kinds of assets fast. They could buy a rental property a year in cash with that income and have an even greater income. Hopefully she’s not that dumb with money and just terrible at sharing her real financial picture.

Why on Earth buy a house in the middle of a divorce? Why on Earth give money to someone making a decent income who just got a settlement but won't share the amount? The fact that people get irritated by that joke, especially when they are boomer age, is even more showing of the insecurity associated with that generation. Honestly I dont care because what matters right now is that we break the cycle of overconsumption and aimless/pointless career/ educational paths that the boomer era has set up.

I need advice. My daughter is married, 2 small kids................. they spend like crazy. They will blow up, for sure. My brother, my ex, everyone says for me to stay out of it. But if she got on a plan NOW, she could survive. Another year, disaster will happen. What can I do ?

Some people have to go through a disaster to get their heads on straight. In the mean time try to send them through Financial Peace University. Maybe it will be enough to change her mind.

Maybe buying a house costs less than renting as it very often does and she wants her kids to move into a solid home they can stay in after a traumatizing divorce like the one her mom put her through at age 2. This mom has plenty of money if she wants to give it, if not sounds like mom doesn’t really need it it just would have helped

My daughter is getting a settlement..how much? ..i don't know..next question...i don't know. Do you know what time it is? I don't know. Her daughter wants to borrow money and she wants play money on the side. Thats why the smokescreen. Thats why she is not telling..besides buying a house during or just after a divorce..give yourself time to heal emotionally. Buying a house is emotional all by itself.

It never amazes my how adults can't make their own way through their problems. I would never call into a stranger's radio show, expert or not, and ask if I should give money to my kids. That's my decision and I'm grown up enough to make it. With that being said, there is a point where adult children need to be just that... an adult and be responsible for their actions. If her daughter wants to buy something that she can't afford then wish her well but don't be stupid enough to enabler her bad decision making.

If you need HELP paying off $500 making $65K you are NOT on Dave Ramsey's plan, that's nothing making $65K. (And what's with divorce in this family?)

This woman and her husband are completely irresponsible. That much income and so little assets.

There's too much missing here to make a determination one way or the other. The default answer then becomes no.

What kind of couple make a quarter of a mil a year, have almost no savings at 60 yrs. old, and STILL don't have their house paid off? Did they just get these jobs? Is their house in Malibu Beach? Unbelievable!
