It may very well be too late for the young man to "exit stage left"; apparently, they are engaged, and nowadays, there's little doubt they've not had intercourse. Scripturally that would mean that they're already married! In fact, that's the only means to be married today, since the Supreme Court nullified all State Constitutional marriage laws in the U.S. between one man and one woman. State civil law marriage no longer exist. For the young man to exit stage left he would first have to give her “a bill of divorce”, or both being guilty of adultery in the near future.

My husband was a single dad who moved back in with his parents. He lost his job and was jobless foe YEARS after...only worked on cars to pay his car payment, phone bill and I think cable or some trivial bill. When we married he was 45 years old. I was a single mom with two teenage boys...going it on my own for the most part. I had told him he needed to get a job...he had excuse after excuse. It finally boiled over when finances got really tight. We had agreed he wanted me staying home..I was collecting a little bit of veterans disability but that was it. He told me he couldn't work certain jobs because he couldn't deal with people. I blew up. I told him I can go out right now and get a job...any job really and that him not being able to push his issues with people aside enough to help me was extremely hurtful. I told him he needed to step up and asked him if his parents weren't there to support him and his son, would he have made it on his car income? He had to admit he couldn't. He told me straight up his self esteem was shot and he felt worthless. We are a year out now from that conversation and he is supporting this household with a really good paying job and busting his butt for us. His son now lives with his parents and at 23 is now the entitled adult child and my husband's now going off on him. My husband learned his lesson. I'm not the kind of women who likes telling her husband off but after making it in the world on my own since the age of 17 I have absolutely no patience for entitlement. I hope your wife can come to understanding how hurtful it is to you for her to stand by while you struggle and to put her wants before your needs. If she won't listen to you, I would suggest counseling...maybe she'll listen to a professional. I can't believe my husband actually listened to me and proved it by holding down this job, advancing, getting awards at work...I'm so freaking proud of him and I am sure to tell him how much I appreciate him busting his butt for us. I wish you two the very best.
