GOING THROUGH A DEATH GRIPS BEATDOWN MADNESS SONG BRACKET The bracket: / 974397343503126534 My social media: Twitter: / theneedledrop Instagram: @afantano FB: / theneedledrop
for real, they really left out the best tracks of ni- i mean the first half of tptb. also would've liked to see say hey kid. at least the put in up my sleeves, but they matched it up against fucking hustle bones.
He interprets Death Grips mainly trough the lense of The Money Store. While I agree it is their best album, the themes from that album are not the main themes connected to their music...
Who gives af if it’s “not the main themes connected to their music”. TMS is 40 minutes of heat, not a slow or dull moment on that album, so it’s easy to see how in a 1v1 TMS will be favoured. It’s ear candy
Big dipper is good in my opinion , i dont know man i love the weird trippy outro with the bjork vocals and the glitchy drums , I think it kinda end perfectly the first half of the album and fits with the energy of the other 7 tracks but The Fever is better for sure. Nice video man!
Just noticed how only one song on Bottomless Pit (Giving Bad People Good Ideas) made it to a quarter-final stage despite being in Fantano’s top 3 Death Grips albums lmao
Hey Anthony, Just wanted to say I honestly can't get enough of these artist brackets. Not only do I get turned on to a talented and fresh new artist, but I'm also given a slew of entry points into their discography from a perspective that I genuinely respect. It's a refreshing break from the trap-rap sink holes I recently keep finding myself in. Keep em coming! (btw currently experiencing DG for the 1st time)
"Inanimate Sensation" is one of the most cutting-edge with those revved vocals. But during the writing of this track I wonder if Zach Hill had "Grapefruit" from Marnie Stern's '07 album in mind.
I absolutely prefer Birds over Spread Eagle. I love the experimental production of Birds even though it has a very simple song structure. The vocal FX and the way that Zach Hill's drums were mixed to work together sound great imo. Obviously, Spread Eagle is super hype but I prefer DG's more production-oriented songs.
Same, also while I agree with Anthony that the Money Store is the best album, he seems to apply its themes to the whole Death Grips project and favours thosr track as a result. Tracks like Up My Sleeves get sidetracked even tho I would out them in the top 10 personally
First half of Powers that Be is definitely my favorite DG album. Feels to me like a fantastic combination of heavy electronic avant garde with accessible well written rap
You might think he loves you over No Love Bass rattle stars out the sky over Centuries of Damn I've seen footage over Guillotine Anthony confirmed for smoking rock.
Centuries of Damn is one of their best. I agree with him on You Might Think He Loves You For Your Money, But I Know What He Really Loves You For It's Your Brand New Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat, though. Absolutely banger.
Hacker is forsure my favorite DG track too literally has everything you would want in one song. Great hook, memorable lines, and one of the best produced tracks ever.
I couldn’t be much happier with this list. After all these years, i still don’t think they can top hacker. That track is just insane and still crazily groundbreaking even today
My final four came out to be: The Fever, Three Bedrooms, Bitch Please, and Get Got. I think I chose The Fever and am ok with calling that my fav Death Grips song yet.
6:35 You're slippin on this pick. Also SebastiAn - Motor is one of the first tracks I know of with this motif, though I guess it's not necessarily popular music
Hacker is the fuckin best dude. It's their most quotable song I think, and it's pretty accessible without diluting the DG experience at all. It's a fuckin monster.
The fact that this guy literally chose a 2 minute minute song (Double helix) over an entire EP with 7 or 8 songs which has majority of songs a lot better than Double helix bugs the hell out of me
It’s pretty unfair to rank an EP almost six times the length of any other song on a bracket. Has some better songs sure, but it shouldn’t have even been included or at least separated into separate tracks. Otherwise it seems pretty pointless to rank the whole thing.
This is pretty much a super drawn out way of saying that Hacker is his favorite Death Grips song, but still tolerable content at the end of the day. You're a good man melon.
