The way melon can pick apart certain things he said back then and now explains them in great introspective detail, off the dome, shows how much you can improve in this amount of time. Wish I could dedicate myself so well to any sort of craft, as he had done in the last 10 years. Unsubscribed.

I've memorized this review in its entirety and when anyone asks me what my favorite album is I repeat it verbatim. Great stuff!

Slapping your leg and going "HE DON'T MISS" over and over was a surprising reaction to say the least.

I listened to The Money Store on repeat while painting houses and doing landscaping/brush clearing in summer of 2012 in rural Arizona. It's an iconic album that I now own on vinyl, but whenever I listen to it I immediately get flashbacks to the feeling of Arizona heat and the smell of acrylic house paint.

Melon literally hasn’t aged. I could not tell you how old this man was or is.

Fantano is really itching for more death grips I can tell by him always dropping death grips videos occasionally that ig post probably got him excited again for more death grips

One of my most prized possessions is my Fantano signed vinyl copy of The Money Store. I sheepishly asked him to sign it when he did a Q&A at my college. He seemed kind of annoyed as he was expecting genuine questions and there was a whole audience haha. I got in DG watching his videos and it was fun to have that kind of interaction with him.

Maybe a cool idea: once reviews hit the 10 year mark they should be put into consideration for a redux it could be an introduction for a lot of new people

This review definitely turned me on to Death Grips. I definitely didn’t take to it immediately due to its abrasiveness (I was 12/13) but over the years The Money Store has become one of my favorite albums ever and helped me realize the beauty in abrasive, loud, glitchy and experimental music across multiple genres. Melon has aged incredibly

Rather than Mr. Fantano turning me onto Death Grips it was the other way around. I found the band, liked what I heard, and was searching what others had to say and this review was right there in the results list.

I've listened to this album sooo many times over the years. Hacker is still among my top favorite songs of all time, in fact it might just be my #1. The band is just not the same without you. Your contributions were invaluable.

I had this classmate in college who once asked me if I had heard of the album The Money Store. When I asked him who the artist was, he said Anthony Fantano. That's how I discovered this guy's channel lol

This review brings back a lot of amazing memories. I was a sophomore in high school at the time and had been watching Anthony's videos for over a year. He'd already put me on to some other artists, and I remember being active on music boards and getting really into Death Grips after they dropped Ex Military. I don't know if I've ever been more excited for an album than I was for the Money Store - I bought a vinyl copy when it dropped on Record Store Day, saw the review, and a good friend and I both freaked out that it was the first 10 given. A couple years passed and I was finally able to see them live, which is still one of the best performances I've ever seen. I saw them live a few times over the years, and even if I go a while without listening to them, the music holds up great. They're easily the active group I associate the most with my teenage years, and I'll always have love for Fantano for being a part of a lot of those memories. Been a wild decade!

I cited this review for my final paper of Rhetoric class this past semester. The essay was about The Money Store and the niche it inhabits in experimental music while still pertaining to hip hop. You explain everything regarding its influences and sound so well. I had many of these moments memorized by the time I finished. Love you Melon.

Can't believe Fantano invented Death Grips

I was 18 years old in 2012, browsing /mu/ at the time when i entered a "post the last song you listened to" thread and i clicked on a link to "I Want It I Need It". I was hooked immediately. RU-vidd more Grips and came across the melon. Seen Death Grips live 3 times now.

This was the review that REALLY got me into your channel tbh

I actually only discovered this album back in 2019 when you did your decade countdown of best albums! After checking it out, I’ve been hooked ever since! I’m just gutted that I was deprived of such a great record over my college years! I definitely agree that to this day this album warrants a 10!

I remember that the description of The Fever you gave really got to me when I first watched the review, I thought it was a really clever analogy. Still think about it from time to time after all these years. Legendary review.

I definitely agree about the record being both heady and aggressive, and how rare that attribute is. I think the only other records off the top of my head that fill those qualities are "Relationship of Command" by 'at the drive-in' and "Symbolic" by Death (although you could argue a few metal or punk records that fill that camp).

Just listened to this album yesterday. Very few other records in the past 10 years have stuck with me the way this one has.

I just finished it today (I listen to it a few times over the course of a few days) and I was honestly surprised by how easy it was to listen to. It isn’t the first abrasive/abstract hip hop album I’ve listened to (At this point I’ve done Madvillainy, Some Rap Songs, and LP!). It was quite enjoyable and catchy (for what lyrics I could actually understand), so thanks for introducing it to me. Hustle Bones is killer. Great album!

Im fine with this album being a 10 but I also think that Death Grips made albums after this that were better and only didn't get a 10 because TMS already did

Talking about the speed and the spacing of the video is pretty funny, as I just watched Folding Idea's video on vlogs. He made an interesting note about how 10 years ago, a slower pace was the norm, but now, speed and jump cuts are essentially the accepted format and looking retroactively seems so foreign to us. The meta now is rapid-fire.

This review feels so recent it’s like I’m watching a recap from the future. 10 years flew past. TMS is a modern classic.

I remember this video dropping when I was in college. I was already so into Ex-Military on your recommendation and was hyped for TMS. Seeing you give it a 10/10 made me basically lose it. Even without the 10/10, it still continues to be one of my favorite albums.

I only recently started taking recommendations from Fantano and the way he built up DG and The Money Store made it the first band I checked out and it was totally worth it, I've been loving them.

This is absolutely true: the TMS review showed up in my RU-vid feed out of nowhere a couple years ago. It got me curious enough to go find the album and then I lost the first 2 months of the pandemic to Death Grips.

Remember watching this back in the day, was 14 at the time, didnt get the album at first but once it clicked for me def opened my mind to more aggressive styles of music hip hop/metal etc

you actually got me with the ending

It's insane to me that this album is already close to ten years old. I remember this was only a few years after really starting to get into indie music and the only rap I really liked at the time for Odd Future. The first time I heard Death Grips, I didn't know how to feel about them. I didn't really enjoy it, but something about it kept brining me back for more. Quickly I started to love this album more and more and eventually thought it was a msterpiece. One of my all time favourite bands because of this review.

Anthony has more hair now than 10 years ago, impressive how slow his hair grows

This review stuck with me for a long time, and what you say about gang hazing resonates with me on so much of death grips' work, especially as a ceremonial magician. You'll find much of the meaning behind stefan's cryptic lyrics resonate with the ascension through the qabbalistic tree of life, and at times he'll choose to embody scorpio, or the path of nun, on the tree of life. the path of nun is the spirit of death, one of the two gatekeepers of the veil to the solar logos, HGA, or "higher self". From his lyrics it sounds alot like he or his character ascended either through nun (death) or ayin (the devil) and sort of dwells in the lunar realm, rejecting the solar logos. The most obvious references to the tree of life are on Steroids. For more reading on this I highly recommend Paths of Wisdom by John Michael Greer.

This record changed everything musically for me. It came out at a very crucial time - was just about to graduate high school, had a new girlfriend, trying to get into other genres besides metal. I listened to The Fever after seeing somewhere you gave it a 10, and I was instantly hooked. Didn't have that first listen confusion a lot of folks had. Seeing this review again reminds me of driving around that summer blasting it on a bootleg CD over and over again. It was more formative to my taste than anything AND got better with age. 10/10 my favorite album.
