This lawn is in total shade all winter long and it really isn't happy. It thins out all through winter, and in the thin bits, moss creeps in, and then it all just deteriorates even further.
So, unless we can fix the shade issue, this will keep happening over and over again.
With the soil being clay based, I have also introduced some gypsum just to try and help things along.
Let's give this lawn. new refresh, a new start, a new lease of life!

Very enjoyable and informative video, I found your channel probably about a week ago now and have done a fair bit of binge watching since ☺️ new to gardening but its something i really am interested in now, have a lot of work to get my lawn in good shape, unfortunately the grass put down years ago was regular agri seed so it grows wild and has rushes etc. Soil also very damp and lots of standing water. But with your great information I will hopefully get onto the right path to turning it all around. Thanks from a new subscriber.

With moist soil and lots of moss, it would probably be better to fill the holes with sand after aerating and not compost soil, as that will not solve the problem. Nice greetings from Germany

Followed your steps 3 weeks ago to do the overseed renovation👍plenty of rain but lacking the warmth and now finally getting a lot of new grasses appearing. My Question is, would you leave it longer than 4 weeks before mowing or just try and cut the longer grass in patches? I got the partial shade seed which you used on your own lawn.
@LawnRight
@LawnRight Месяц назад
@@spudhauler hi. The longer you can leave it the better, but naturally cut it when it's ready just go very careful when turning around.. Congrats on the new seedlings 😊😊

hi mate, im doing my lawn again this weekend, i dont have a roller to bed the seed down would just walking them in ok.
@LawnRight
@LawnRight Месяц назад
Hi yes walking in is fine as long a sits not wet or it'll stick to your feet 😊😊.. I've done renovations without rolling that come through if that's any help
@ctc3041
@ctc3041 Месяц назад
Thank you for sharing. Can I use this method on a lawn that are fully cover with weeds. 😊
@LawnRight
@LawnRight Месяц назад
Yes you can but the weeds will persist and you won't be able to apply weedkiller for a good 2 months. Either just weedspray for now and renovate in autumn.. Or weedspray now with roundup just on the weeds and renovate in 3 weeks BUT you'd need to hugely increase watering as much as 4 to 6 times a day for up to a month then twice a week without fail through summer.. Or renovate next spring but be sure to get your weedkiller on much earlier in the year like march
@ctc3041
@ctc3041 Месяц назад
@LawnRight Thank you for your advice. Now I know what to do. I will crack on with it while the weather is nice. 😊

@ctc3041 Месяц назад
Would you be able to guide me through as I've just finished scalping my lawn yesterday, and next will be scarifying and laying 70/30 top dressing. I couldn't get the pre fertiliser. Is it ok to use the feed, weed, and moss killer granules after scarifying, then seeds, and then cover with 70/30 top dressing as I am levelling the lawn. Is it going to be raining every day next week so I am trying to get this done today if possible. 😂 Thank you.
@LawnRight
@LawnRight Месяц назад
@@ctc3041 sorry you can't apply anything with weedkiller in it if laying any seeds down so you'll have to skip that bit

Hi where do you get your grass fleece to protect seed from birds ? I need to buy a large fleece but I see gsm next to it don’t know what that means. Any ideas thanks
@LawnRight
@LawnRight Месяц назад
Hi mine was amazon.. The GSM is the weight or thickness.. I just went for a low GSM to allow plenty of light through
@davidplanet3919
@davidplanet3919 Месяц назад
Good job. If you put the fertiliser down before the seeds it can be washed deep into the soil before the roots have developed. The seeds contain all the nutrients they need to germinate. There are also some slow release nutrients in the compost. it’s better to wait until the new grass seedlings are ready for the first cut (so you can walk on it) before applying the fertiliser. This would mean a second visit, which is OK for DIY, but needs a second visit for a professional job.
@LawnRight
@LawnRight Месяц назад
Hi it's a preseed Fertiliser
@davidplanet3919
@davidplanet3919 Месяц назад
Yes, I know. But it is not taken up by the seed/plant until the first root (the radicle) develops. Personally I never bother with pre-seed fertiliser and just use autumn/winter fertiliser once the plants are growing. But everyone is different and that’s OK.

@LawnRight
@LawnRight Месяц назад
Hi Adam while we don't disclose our own pricing I'll be happy to give a few ideas. You need to know what you need to earn each day to cover bills, and an amount to cover any unseen issues like machine breakdowns etc. Jobs like this are usually half a day or less so you can factor that in.. It's alos good to make some profit too to help keep the business stable. A days income for me is different to a sole trader as I have 2 wages to cover. Hope that helps

My lawn has nothing going for it. Its on a slope, surrounded by large mature trees, free draining and always appears bone dry, mostly in shade in the summer, full of moss, weeds and nuts/husks from the trees… Its a nightmare... I have hand scarified it to within an inch of its life and is more soil than grass now.
