I just acquired a 1997 grizzly G 1023 3 hp 220 single phase table saw. I’m in the process of restoring it. More cosmetically because it functions just fine. Does not have a riving knife. So I will have to create something for that. However, I was able to score it for only $300 and after I’m done painting it putting it to use. The motor was replaced in 2009 so that’s a plus. I’m just so excited and figured I would share it.
I went all in on Grizzly, including this saw three years ago when I finally had enough funds and space to build out a proper wood shop and have Never been disappointed. Your videos were instrumental in that decision - Thank you!
I have a 2003 shop fox w1677 which is essentially the same as the G1023 but It came without a riving knife. I finally but the bullet and purchased the shark guard riving knife and it works like a charm. I love my table saw and it is also the tool I use the most. Recently replaced all the bearings and it’s smooth as the day it was purchased. These machines will last a lifetime with the proper care and maintenance.
As a wood machinist in the UK for 40 years, i would suggest searching for other alternatives too. There are many more excellent machines out there in different price brackets. This is a good a machine, however if you are serious about getting what's right for you, go out and physically test drive as many as you can. Personally i prefer a dedicated spindle molder, combination machines are great until they have a problem....one machine, one task.

Your story is inspiring to me as I am starting down a similar path, and the G1023RLW will be at the heart of my woodshop-in-progress. @@wmwalkerco yep. It is for the better. Buying land to build a home, hopefully. It is still on the list to get as I will need it for finishing the home, but getting the land first is the priority.
@@jakematic thanks for the info. I'd have to save up for quite some time for that. But it sure would beat the heck out of my Harbor Freight job-site "table saw". Being disabled and on a budget that is a full two month's income for me. So save for quite some time and search auctions and ebay will have to be my route while saving up if I don't find one before saving enough to buy a new one. Thanks again for the information.
@@thomasarussellsr No problem. Yeah I saved here and there for over a year to get it. Was a big upgrade from my ancient DeWalt jobsite saw. Is just no way I could've justified the cost of a SawStop.
@@jakematic yeah, then if the moisture content is just a bit too high and the safety trips, and your out even more money to replace the cartridge. Finger/hand safety is a nice feature, but damn, that's an added expense if it trips just because of a wet wood or pitch pocket and not because of a human flesh safety thing. Not to mention the added expence up front. Merry Chrismas.
The document you have linked in the description, the prices in it are more than 10% less than the Grizzly website. Is this going to be the price with the code?
Thanks for posting this video. I recently bought a new Harvey 3hp table saw that I think is basically the same saw as this one. Do you notice a kind of bumping noise when you turn off the saw and then blade is almost at a stop? Almost like it's a brake system trying to stop the blade? Thanks.
I noticed Harvey started selling directly to the public. They used to manufacture for other brands. I don't get a bumping sound just a whirring sound as it winds down. There is no brake on my tablesaw.
You have the option of either when ordering. I have the 3hp motor. The 5hp was an extra $50 but I didn't think it was necessary. The W stands for "wing" which is the router table wing. The 1023 is their base model and changed from the 1023SL to RL when they added a Riving Knife hence the "R". I added the 7' rails as an accessory and sold the shorter rails.
It should but I know they've been updating their system. Try WALKER01 or WALKER10. They've changed it a few times so I'll ask them what it is now. Let me know if those don't work.
@@wmwalkerco Thanks for the reply! I sure did. It accepts the code and says "Coupon Applied" but does not change the price. I'm trying to get the RLWX but have also tried it with the RL and RLW with the same result.
