Two small mistakes BUT they didn't change anything! 1) When I flipped alter-ego for my obligation, I didn't take the 2 damage from The Ground is Lava - but I ended the game with more than 2 HP, so didn't matter! 2) I used Vivian to blank Flight. Cards that aren't from the same set as the permanent card are no longer allowed to blank them etc, so that wouldn't have worked. Fortunately, thanks to a spot of weird (read: inspired?) decision-making, I didn't chump block that round anyway so it didn't affect the game. Phew! And one tiny mistake of missing a single point of threat around 8 minutes in. I think I could have played around it and had the same result.
@VillainTheory one thing that might have assisted to remember the challenge ruling to take the two damage, print off and make a sleeved card next to the villain for reference for both you and players as a reminder.
“Hammer throw is the perfect solution to a Goblin Knight shaped problem” That both answers the question of whether you should do more of these and whether you should include all the chatter. GG
VT great gameplay . Tempo was fine. I love hearing “Thinking out loud” because I learn how you think through strategy choices which helps me to be a better player.
Lovin' it dude! 😍 The commentary is great - planning, intent & in relation to what the villain may be throwing back at you. It can definitely help viewers follow along.
I really enjoyed your first game play! And I do hope you do more. And I do think hearing you think through your card play is very interesting so I say yes to keep your thought process in your playthroughs!
Love the commentary. I much prefer watching this then people thinking in silence. That's why Rahdo playthroughs are my favorites and make me feel way more engaged.
Sometimes you gotta tell it like it is: Thor needs some triple resources Honestly I think that would help him a lot. And Valkyrie. Upcoming triple resources locked to Asgard-traited heroes in the future???
Love seeing you play, just watched your Three player game vs Super powered Thanos. I really like the talking through, cause that's how it is when you play. Would love to see more. Thanks for posting!
Very exciting to see a gameplay video on your channel and was great to watch, hope you do another playthrough in the future. Also camera is great quality too, could read every word on the cards.
Always awesome to see you play with other marvel champions content creators but this was really interesting to see as a solo game hopefully we see more in the future.
Hahaha...i literally have been building a Thor Protection deck for this FFG challenge, then I hopped onto RU-vid and found your video!:)... I've not started it yet but see you have Hard Knocks...was going to go down the stun lock route as Gobby will have overkill, but I've opted for a "defend and gain bonus" approach instead! The Flight mod has a treachery that includes piercing in its boost and an ability to remove tough cards! That scared me away from that hahaha Keen to see how you go!:) Also- WOOHOO! Thank you for including gameplay now!! I LOVE warching playthroughs...and yours now will be extra special!
Hey Rey! Wow, I didn't think anyone else would go for Thor! Great taste. Protection too? Amazing. Going for Toughs was definitely risky, I intentionally went for something a bit odd. I think stuns is the way but we'll see! I'm curious to see how your defense approach works out! Thanks for the kind words, and this is a good reminder for me to reach out to you on Discord about something I'm cooking up...
@VillainTheory just for a point of difference I think I'll go try Rogue instead!:)...oh awesome!! Look forward to hearing what it is that's cooking!:)
@@Rey_Plays_Games Rogue is a great choice too, fantastic. Also I messaged you on Discord - I think it's you? Let me know if you can't see the message and I'll email you instead.
That was awesome. Really enjoyed this gameplay video, don't edit out your thoughts. I haven't played many games of Thor, so you talking through everything was really nice. Side note, I don't think Vivian can blank permanent attachments. I know it doesn't say it on the card but she was errata'd somewhere. I did the same thing in my challenge game and found out later. Oh well. Edit, just read your pinned comment. 😂
@@VillainTheory I played two handed into this challenge and had Vivian in both decks. Blanked it once and when I did it again, I thought "this is broken" so I looked up a ruling. Have to do the challenge again, oh darn.
Very well narrated first gameplay video. It mustve helped getting some reps in on Nelson's channel. This challenge by FFG is fun (I used Rogue - Bulletproof Belle was clutch). I like these unique scenarios like your Super Thanos from last week. I concluded my last RORS with a really hard custom I call Loki, God King of Hydra (instead of the reccomended modules use Hydra Assault and Legions of Hydra. Additional Rule: Loki cannot take damage whilst a Hydra minion is in play)
Nelson's channel definitely helped. Rogue is a cool choice too. And that scenario sounds fun, I have a custom Thanos lurking out there somewhere that uses Hydra sets too weirdly!
Ive been so excited for your play throughs, also love the deck walkthrough before you play. Helps us know what combos you are digging for and game plan.
Awesome gameplay video. Watched this at work and I had to watch myself from laughing out loud at the commentary. It was great even with the setup as imagining why the ground is Lava. I have issues with the Over Confidence card. It says “deal” damage instead of “take”. Wouldn’t it have surged? I play it as take as well like you did in the gameplay. Also when you flipped to alter-ego because of the obligation you didn’t take “lava” damage but it didn’t matter in the end.
Great timing, was just looking at the comments! Glad you liked the commentary ha! As for Overconfidence, the rules are super tricky around it now but here's a quote from the Rules Reference 1.5: "The amount of damage dealt by the attack is reduced by the hero’s DEF value, and and remaining damage is dealt to that hero." In other words, DEF reduces damage dealt which makes it work here.
Never in a million years did I expect your first gameplay video to feature Thor. Not that I'm complaining, you took down a pretty challenging villain and difficulty boosted with a weaker hero (even if Thor likes thos minions). Nice!
Goblin with Flight is one of my favorite pairings. I love that the overkill makes chump blocking inefficient. The ground is lava is a fun house-ruled "environment". It'd be cool if champions did something like flight, telepathy, etc. that were permanent environments that you could add for a little extra challenge. Bonus, release these cards with a hero that can do something with environments.
It's a great pairing, we talked about it on Shadow of the Cast even but I forgot to mention that here. Oops! And I'd definitely love more environments like this.
Oh a Web-Warrior is a really fun idea! Love it. We'll see what the next challenge is but I'd love to sneak in a game as SP//dr or maybe even Ghost-Spider?
@@VillainTheory2 of my favorite heroes! Ghost Spider took a few plays to appreciate but SP//DR was love at first sight. First hero to do that since Ant-Man (I started playing last November).
Everytime i see one of your videos it pulls me back to the game, thank you The last time played was before any of the X-Men have been out. Q. Would you recomend any of the newer champions to a player that loves to play threat control in a multiplayer format?
Great question! And the X-Men and X-Force have some great candidates for that. Angel, Cable, Psylocke are my top picks for you. All X-Force. For Angel, give him Agile Flight, Yaw and Roll and Lay Down the Law as events. You will thwart like there's no tomorrow. Psylocke is also extraordinarily good at thwarting though harder in general to play. And Cable really truly introduces Player Side Schemes - throw him in Justice with Even The Odds, Overwatch and several player side schemes and your table will love you. Or you can even play Cable with the new X-Force Leadership archetype he comes with which is all about threat control. As for the X-Men Storm and Cyclops are both great at it but don't do it as naturally as those other three. But they can be built to be powerhouses in damage, thwarting, or a mixture extremely well.
Excellent game, love the commentary and brainstorming. One error at 8:28, Green Goblin attacked and damaged you, and no threat was added. This would have advanced the main at 24:56, which could have made a difference in the rest of the playthrough.
Though having the extra threat earlier probably would have led to some different decisions regarding thwarting. Still, loved the gameplay and hope to see more of them!
Great catch, seems no one else caught it. How annoying! But glad you mentioned it. Hopefully I could have adjusted and accounted for it and still got the win. Going to chalk this one up to learning to commentate and play fully, and try twice as hard next time to have no mistakes.
Hi VT! Good game! I think you missed the new Permanent rulings from 1.5. A permanent card cannot be blanked by cards that are not in the same set, so Vivian can't disable Flight!
Ahhh you are 100% right and I even told Nelson about this recently, then completely forgot about it. Great shout and thankfully it didn't matter in the end!
@@johnwaynemcclung8056 A modular set with a permanent card could be affected by other cards from that modular set. Or if it's part of the villain's own cards, other cards specific to that same villain. That kind of thing!
