Judah is such a compositionally rich album. I think if they had the resources for better recording and mixing when it was made it would be one of their best.

Violet is a wonderful track. Absolutely gorgeous track. And Tunnel of Trees's ending is just ecstatic. I'm enjoying your journey across Deafheaven's discography so much!!! The fact that you get goosebumps listening to their music is so relatable :D If you enjoyed the melodic ending of Tunnel as well as the more melodic parts of Infinite Granite, you'll love many tracks on OCHL. The opening track is soooo good! Can't wait for your video!

The man who founded the show gaze band Whirr played guitar in Deafheaven for this album during this era. You can hear many similarities between the bands because of this.

Your reactions are always spot on. Yes, Deafheaven used shoegaze elements from the start. They also have the live in lockdown album 10 Years Gone that I thought wouldn't be essential, but turned out to be one of my favorites. The album feels like all the best moments of Deafheaven keep building and never let up. Kind of when you need an ultimate Deafheaven fix!

Hi! Great reaction, and analysis Not sure if i am too late on this, but, before Deafheaven, George and Kerry had a deathgrind band called Rise of Caligula, album Parading from Heavens descent which set a foundation of what Deafheaven will be. Worth checking out 😊

8:32 Love this point. It ties into the vocals as well for me, because they’re different on every album. I liked your comment on that in your Infinite Granite review, ”it’s like growling”. 6:37 This is the part where I knew this was a special band. Harsh vocals over a soft, lone, slow guitar was something I’d never heard before, but it very much resonated with me. That instantly set Deafheaven apart from other bands for me and they haven’t lost me for a second since then. Fantastic video.

I'm torn between Roads to Judah & Ordinary Corrupt Human Love as my second favourite album of theirs after Sunbather. Roads to Judas is more consistent, but OCHM had the singles that really turned me into a Deafheaven fan. I'd also recommend the singles From the Kettle onto the Coil, Daedalus & Black Brick. They're all great tracks, but were never featured on a studio album.

Hey an album that I don't have to listen to first before watching your video. All joking aside, this album is killer and I think is a really good debut at showing where the band would go. As you mentioned, the elements that remind you of Sunbather are taken and refined for that album and same with the New Bermuda sounding stuff. This might be close to a perfect album if it weren't for the production which could be better. Still an amazing album though, especially for a debut. Also, you're totally on point with the percussion. Daniel Tracy is a beast of a drummer. Here are two more suggestions if you want more music similar enough to Deafheaven: As Above, So Below by Vvilderness and CLG J02182-05102 by Mesarthim. These albums aren't blackgaze like Deafheaven but they do have a similar beauty in the instrumentation. These albums also go along well the the Harakiri for the Sky and Alcest albums I suggested on the New Bermuda video. Lastly, and totally off topic, but I know you are a CHVRCHES fan and if you haven't listened to Mercurial World by Magdalena Bay you really should. It's my second favorite synth-pop album of the year behind Screen Violence and my fifth favorite album of the year right now.

Yeah, Roads To Judah is a fantastic debut album. They managed to create such an amazing, polished, nuanced sound despite it being their first LP. Thanks for the album suggestions, I have actually listened to Mercurial World and really enjoyed it! They do synth pop really well and it's such a fun album to listen to.

Well damn, if I knew you were reacting to stuff such as this I would've recommended some similar stuff but better IMO. "From the Gallery of Sleep" and "Lift Your Existence" by Night Verses The 1st one I mentioned is all instrumental save for audio extracts from movies and stuff. The 2nd one has vocals but are mostly clean and some screaming. I recommend the tracks Phoenix VI: Levitation and Drift "Nocturnal" by The Black Dahlia Murder This album is wonderful from beginning to end but it is pretty much all heavy, so when you're in the mood for it it is a pretty neat cosmic horror concept album. Unlike most heavy metal screamers, Trevor is really good. "The Flesh Prevails" and "Dreamless" by Fallujah. Both of these albums incorporate heavy but melodic parts just like Night Verses (forgot to mention that) and you'll find yourself rising high into sadness when the heavy fades. Some really great ambient electronic tracks too. Also, speaking of electronic, check out Aphex Twin and Electrocado.
