All great modifications I know I’m a bit late to the party but I’ve come up with mod no 6: bolt on the underside of the short and the long parts of the bed when it’s in the horizontal position. I’m looking at getting a canopy camper or maybe even the cabin camper depending on which truck I get for use at music festivals. Throughout the day I would keep the main door and windows locked but would want to keep the camper popped open, meaning in theory if someone had the inclination to they could climb onto the truck, break into the camper through the mesh window in the bed section and access all my gear: simple solution, add a metal bolt to secure both the main bed and the smaller part of the bed together which would prevent access to the living area and keep all my possessions safe.

Great mod #6. Never too late for good ideas. I might incorporate your idea. My daughter also likes using the Hilux and Camper for music festivals. Thanks

Appreciate the insight. Thank you for taking the time to create this video. Would love to see more on the Alu-Cab Canopy Camper. Mod 3 you get a 10 of 10. This is something I've been wondering about and your solution is not only simple but effective and easy to replace over time. Bravo. ~ Eric

Hi there ref point 1, closing the door, all you actually need to do is put a very small amount of downward pressure on the handle and it turns the vertical bar nice and easily. Points 2 & 4 have been recitified by Alucab, with a strap for the dfoor as standard and an optional awning gutter which solves point 4
@Adventure8
@Adventure8 Год назад
Thanks for the update. Yes door closing technique can eliminate the need for my mod 1. Personally I prefer my setup with mod 1. Good AluCab rectified door strap and roof gutter above the door. My latest mod is putting sensors on all doors and roof tent letting me know that something is open should I drive off.

Great points. The last point is the most annoying point. Thank you for that idea. I’ll do some similar but i don’t have the dish holder. So i have to see how i’ll fix that. Thank you for that idea! Greetings from Switzerland

Great video 👍 I don't have a canopy camper yet . Hopefully next year . I like it because it is like a blank canvas you can make it to suit your needs and make it your own

Yes, that's exactly the reason why I chose it too.

1,2 and 4 should have been addressed by alu cab. Unacceptable in my opinion that they haven't done this. Well done you for your ingenuity. I have been considering alu cab canopy for over a year now. It's good that those who already have this great conversion/camper point out these issues.

10 out of 10 for all of them - really great. With the plastic screens, wonder whether a thin aluminium strip would be better at the top to sandwich the plastic against the camper - still the same number of screws you have but I fear with all the vibrations those individual screw holes into plastic may perish - spreading the load across the aluminium strip might help..?
@Adventure8

Great suggestion. My version 1 is still going. It was an old piece of clear plastic to start. I will create a new version soon.

Great mods and explanations thank you. I wonder if it would be possible to fit one of these to a Ute with a tray and who might be able to help with that?
@Adventure8
@Adventure8 2 года назад
I presume you are referring to a flat top tray back on a ute. I think there are a number of manufacturers that make slide on/off camper units. In fact, Alu-Cab make one, called Khaya. Here is the link:www.alu-cab.com/product/khaya-4-sleeper/. Alu-Cab's unit looks to be designed for normal twin cab utes rather than tray tops.

Just got my camper 2 weeks ago and camped last night. BUT that latch with the two teeth per se won’t turn right so I can close the door all the way from inside. Just found this out this morning when light and cold air was coming through around the door trying to get out of the camper. It’s suppose to twist while the handle is where it sits when closed so a person can close the door from the inside. Any tips? Defect? Emailed Alu cab a few minutes ago too.

The Handle Solution seems like an over complication of a mechanism that seems to be used incorrectly. When we first got our camper I too thought something similar to you. But then found the easiest solution, as well as the proper use of the handle. Is to just provide upward leverage on the bar to allow it to open and close one handed. From what I understand this was done on purpose by alucab. The main reason being to not allow someone to lock you inside the camper.
@Adventure8
@Adventure8 2 года назад
Thanks for commenting. I'm still sold on my mod. So easy compared to without the modification. The mod has no impact on being locked inside. When the handle is seated in its home position with the door open, the door can then be closed/opened locked/inlocked (using the inside clamps) from inside the AluCab.

Have ordered a canopy camper for our hilux. Some great tips here. I assume the hilux will use more fuel with the camper. What is your highway fuel usage? Cheers from Bairnsdale, Vic.
@Adventure8
@Adventure8 3 года назад
Yes fuel consumption does go up, between 0.5 and 1.0 litres per 100km (ie 5% to 10%) increase, depending how much braking and accelerating you do. The more consistent the driving, the better.
@Adventure8
@Adventure8 3 года назад
This comparison is between an empty Ute vs one loaded with an extra 500kg (camper plus luggage plus fuel and water).

Just use upward pressure on the larger latch arm to rotate the latch bar. The key rings arent needed if you do this

What are these campers worth in Australia?
@Adventure8
@Adventure8 2 года назад
The Alu-cab Canopy Camper plus awning fitted was around $20,000 AUD. Good value in my mind. There was sticker shock at the time however, the quality is appreciated after the purchase. So good value. If you are in peakoffroad.com.au was the supplier and installer. Contact Ivan, mention my name... He supplies and installs in Sydney Australia, also supplies worldwide where appropriate.

Maybe you could add car dvr camera (like xiaomi dvr). Its record automatically your trip, it's not waterproof, if you install at front of your canopy you have to covered it with glass box, it's connect via direct wifi connection with your smartphone, the software could handle 2 dvr camera

35 out of 50 for your mods. They may be great for your environment. If your so worried about the back door put in a locking door hard stops. Sorry, but that cam nylon straps and the table cloth protector over the side doors it look cheesy. That’s my personal opinion, for the amount of money you have wrapped up in your canopy camper form alu-cab.
