Over the years I have followed a lot of new vloggers on various subjects, narrowboats, carpentry, van life, steam engineering and many more. I really do not know what the formula is, my favourite for a long time was a carpenter, he was good at explaining what he was doing and why he did things a certain way, but most of each video was watching him saw or plane wood with very small amounts of talking. He got many thousands of viewers. Another was a van lifer I watched, he stayed on small number of viewers and he was a natural comedian, did a lot of things in and out of the van, I liked it but it didn't collect a big number of subscriptions. But I can say that for me personally I have to connect in some way to the vlog or vlogger, sometimes it is skills other times the person, but always for me it has to be someone who is easy to listen to, I would put you in that category, you talk well and have things to say. So it is a good start. Don't worry too much about 'creating content' because that can imply 'contrived content', so far you are keeping it natural recording what you do and saying what you want to say, that is by far the better way. It doesn't matter if people disagree with something, that is what conversation is in the end, many viewing points so many points of view.

Thanks, Rob. Lots of great advice here, and some very kind words. By necessity and nature my content will probably always be a mix of different types of stuff, both natural and contrived, and from people's feedback it seems that people want a mix too, in the sense that some want one thing and some want the other, and at the moment I seem to be providing both. I'm a frustrated filmmaker at heart, so I'll always be doing skits and little mini-movies, which are, obviously, contrived, but at the same time I want to speak honestly and naturally about my thoughts and feelings, and also create a record of my adventures and my journey through life. So it seems I'm kind of finding my own groove, and I just need to keep plugging away at it, and improving my skills as I go. I'm driven by artistic and creative impulses, but also a desire to leave behind a record of my existence, and my thoughts and deeds while I was here. And I'm also driven by the need to finance all of that, somehow! And of course I have to do that while battling demons and struggling against my own limitations. And that's a part of the story I must tell too. Anyway, I'm babbling. Thank you for watching. Thank you for your kind words and useful advice. Appreciated. 😊x

I think that was a very open, honest and successful Q&A Kit. Well done. I think your channel is the only one we watch where I never know what I am going to get 😁👍. By all means do what is necessary to grow your audience but make sure you are primarily making films that please you. I am open to all types of content really as long as its genuine and not just clickbait. I thought the acting in your last film and the storyline was very entertaining so I hope you do more of that. Congrats on passing the 500. All the big channels did that at some point and there is no reason you cant grow much larger. It just takes time, effort and a willingness to keep improving. Keep going as your doing just fine 😁👍

I really value your good opinion, and it is very exciting to know that you and Carol are watching. I take on board everything you say, and will keep plugging away and hopefully improving. And yes, I always try to make films that please me, but I have to be extra careful not to get too self indulgent, as I mostly live in my own little autistic universe and have to remember that other people don't necessarily need to share in ALL my rambling processes! 😉 Thank you for watching. 😊x

You are wonderful, intelligent, creative, and just plain sweet. Don't forget that even when the world is overwhelmingly peopley (is that a word?), some of those people are fellow nutters that are rooting for you like mad! I love all your van videos. I especially like combining beautiful scenery,art, and linking a place to classic literature. It inspires me to explore the locale by reading or creating art myself in some way. 🍁🌲🍁🌲😘😘

You answered my question 😁 I love the quirky variety of your content. As you know I am a died in the wool booktuber and never expected to find myself watching vanlife videos. It is your personality and the verve you bring to filming and editing that have kept me connected. I hope you get to take the van around the rest of Europe but there is so much loveliness in the UK in terms of scenery and history that this combined with personal thoughts should give you ample material for a long time to come.

Winter weather, financial worries, and depression have been tripping me up lately, but I have great hopes for proper UK travels in the spring. I am so grateful for your kind words about my filmmaking. I'm trying hard to approach the standards and quality of the vanlifers I admire. It really helps to get such positive feedback from you. @@kitsworld I know that you will. I live in the lovely state of Georgia in the USA. So right now we are bouncing from high Temps in the low to mid 50's F to mid 70's F with the lows in the 30 to 40 range. So one say we are wearing shorts and tee shirts the next it is sweatshirt and blue Jeans. We are expected to have a mild winter but we will see. Thank you for being open with your life struggles. It is an encouragement to hear and know that other people have issues weather they are the same are not and that it is okay to talk about them. Mental health is a disease and it is time that the stigmas associated with it be removed and replaced with care and compassion.

Thank you, Debbi. 😊 Don't worry, I was just experimenting with my new community tab, and the Q&A happened in a low-key way through that. It was nice to do the first one without too many questions or expectations to overwhelm me. Next time I'll go bigger. Maybe do it live. 😳 I think I need more subs before I qualify for Patreon or any other monetisation. More research needed. 😘x

Haha! Only HALF a bottle? Lightweight! LOL 🤣 I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I will try to include more rambles. (They're always there while filming, but I usually edit them out for fear of being boring and/or depressing, but people seem to be okay with that stuff after all). I agree. We should all get naked more often, especially in the outdoors. And I'm at a stage in my life where I'm wanting to say "fuck you" to all the body-shamers and just live my best life without fear or regret! lol (But without losing subs!) 🤣

Your quiet life sounds nice, yes RU-vid is a way for me as well to connect with other humans. I look forward for you for your partner to join you on your travels and I love that you both are in contact so much. 😂 Julie's question and your answer! I hope you get to travel all over Europe! I'd love to see videos of that too. Now you've made me curious what some of your partner's favourite books (or authors) are. Yay for reading the Empire trilogy again! Oh I just finished reading a book that involved Egypt, it was amazing to read about (it was contemporary fiction but featured two egyptologists as characters). I hope you get to go there with your partner, that'd be amazing to experience together. Oh yes I'd definitely watch more introspective videos, ooh but the entertaining videos are great too.. I'd watch all the videos 🤣. I love seeing the nature areas, towns, animals. I don't know the UK well enough to know what kind of areas are near you / within reach of your fortress of solitude (in fact I don't remember what the name is of whereabouts it is so can google it on a map haha). I've been to the south of the UK, as that's where my partner grew up (I've been to several places there but not lots), but I don't know much of what is in other areas of the UK.

Really interesting video. I didn’t realise about your mental health struggles; very honest and open to talk about them in this medium. Great video. Would love to see you do a tour in the Lake District when possible. Also to mention any mental health issues you have whilst on your trips; what makes you struggle and your coping mechanisms on the road. And of course the comedy, but that comes across naturally in your videos. Take care and keep up the good work Kit.

Thank you so much. 😊 Yes, the Lake District is definitely on the cards. I even have some parkups planned. But I'm holding out for warmer weather so I can swim. 😁 I actually stream a lot of consciousness while filming, and all my mental struggles get discussed. But then I get scared and cut it all out in the edit, due to fears of it being boring and/or too heavy. I'll try and keep more of it in, based on feedback from you and others. Thank you. 😘 x

@@kitsworld hey Kit. Definitely have a swim/kayak in Wast Water in the Lakes; I did it a few months ago and it was just sublime to be able to do it. That’s positive that you do film your struggles, stream of consciousness though! Of course only put it out there more if you feel comfortable doing it. It takes a long long time to build up the subscribers on the tube. Theres no shortcut that I've seen. Perseverance is key unfortunately. Clearly the quality of your videos is deserving of 20k tho!
