For real. Before watching Anthony Dickey, I didn't think I'd like wash and gos for my 4c hair. But girl, I am LOVIN' them! The key is doing it while still in the shower and finding the right products!
@@ladyt618 I was just going to say that I really think everyone with 4c should watch him since it's so engrained on our heads that 4c hair can't do wash and gos
I haven’t done a wash n go in years. I have like 80% shrinkage and my hair gets dry after like three days. I just do braid/twistouts so I don’t have to do my hair but once a week. 😭
The thing about a “wash n go” is you have to find products that really work for you and methods that work for you. A lot of people dont like em. Id say try flat twists. Thats my go to
@@LovetteKourt no such thing as a wrong hair type. If you wash your hair and it looks the way it looks it's probably a hint that it's supposed to look like that lol and what you think about it probably isn't objective

Kourt Nee wrong. I can do a wash n go with my 4c hair. It just takes time and patience and a lot of natural 4c babes dont like the way their hair shrinks after doing one
Tips: Focus more on the moisture than the gel! When you wash your hair, remember to put conditioner on your ends and then shampoo! This way your ends are a bit more moisturized and protected! Also remember to deep condition your hair after you’re done washing! Find a good leave in and hair milk. I also recommend even after you rinse everything out that you spray your hair with water before going in with the gel.
LOVE YOUR GORGEOUS COILS SOO MUCH!! next time just try doing this on SOAKING WET hair! Step 1. DRENCH hair in warm water Step 2. Apply leave-in using raking method Step 3. Spray hair with more water and then add a heavy styling cream (ie. Jane carter Curl Cocktail is amazing) Step 4. Spray hair again! and add your gel to seal it all in and define the curls a lil more - Do all this in your lil sections and DON'T USE OIL!! Oil just coats the hair, stopping moisture from penetraing your beautiful strands! - Also avoid silicones in all your products! (dimethicone, amodimethicone, trimethicone, *anything ending in “..ethicone” really) YOU’RE AMAZING!! So excited about your hair journey!! xxx
And its okay to have silicone in your products. Not all hairtypes are the same and some people actually need silicone and parabens and what not. It really depends on your hair type. Stop enforcing the false narrative that everyone has the same head of hair and that we all have to follow the same procedures.🙂
Tae TM First of all, no one NEEDS silicones or parabens... some hair can just handle them fine, but no hair type needs them... that’s bs 2nd of all, why are you so pressed though? And 3rd of all, I’m not “enforcing a false narrative” babe. I worked at a curly hair salon for a while and I understand curly hair. I specifically typed out those instructions as to how her hair would most likely respond. Take your uneducated, angry ass elsewhere xx
Tae TM I suggested not using oil as she CLEARLY has low porosity hair, which has no trouble keeping keeping moisture that’s already in the hair but struggles to absorb moisture. Oil will only cost her low porosity strands, further increasing her hair’s struggle to absorb moisture.
In my experience, it’s best to leave the defined curls alone while they’re wet. I let my curls air dry and I don’t touch them at all. I’ll rock a shrunken wash & go as it air dries. If I want to stretch, I lightly mist with water and band in sections AFTER the defined curls have air dried.
I recently got a deva cut (I have 4a/4b hair) and she styled my wash and go on soaking wet hair and it came out super soft and defined ! If you try this again use lots of water . Also I recommend using the app (think dirty ) it lets you know of any harmful ingredients in your hair care products.
Not just 4c hair. The only ppl doing quick wash and goes are types 2 and 3. It takes so long bc ppl are trying to weigh their hair down when it wants to go up in its loose state. Our hair also doesn't clump easily with the products on the market. If u do a wash and go as a defined afro, I'm sure the process would be 10x faster. Btw I've never done one bc I don't really like gel or alot of product in my hair. I think a easy wash and go on 4c hair would be after a clay wash, then deep condition, leave some of the conditioner in and rake in gel.
Since my hair is short, all I do is wash n go’s. My success came from two places, a natural hair celebrity stylist and Adwoa Beauty brand (that is to die for), WATER 💧 is the number 1 source for successful wash n go’s. A Leave-in is a must, added on the sopping wet hair, then depending on how I feel, cream, gel or both spraying in water along the way and sometimes oil to seal. Then a Very lively head shake to define the curls then I normally air dry, or use my diffuser. I hope you try it again🥰🥰🥰
PERFECT, ALL-NATURAL WASH AND GO REGIMEN for Type 4 hair 👇🏽 1. Bentonite Clay + ACV + Aloe vera juice for cleansing/clarifying 2. Amla & Brahmi powder mixed with blended avocado, aloe vera juice, & conditioner for conditioning/DC 3. Spray with sage water or rose water (make hair EXTREMELY soft) 4. Apply fresh aloe vera leaf gel (not the bottled) for Leave in + PH balance 5. Apply light store-bought leave-in conditioner (optional) 6. Apply flaxseed gel (this is a great natural gel that doubles as a leave-in conditioner) 7. Either use heat or bunning or twists to stretch it while it dries. Beautiful, moisturized curls EVERY TIME!! I'm uploading this video tomorrow if y'all wanna see it in action lol
I have your exact hair type and length. It really helps to have your hair soaking wet and to curl each individual strand around your finger rather than work in those sections. That's not for us sis. It takes forever but it's worth it. 💕
Rakiya would it work on 4c textured hair fr? Bc when I check their Instagram I just see a lot of women w 4a to 3b types using it. I’m not trying to be rude; I just wanna know as a fellow mostly 4c texture haver 😭😭
@@jamesecain I know you didn't ask me but I'll answer. Lol. Yes the products work on 4c hair. I have 4c hair and I use the Camille Rose Almond Jai Butter underneath the Camille Rose Curlmaker gel and I get lots of definition and moisture.
I love it when hair is beautiful in chaos. Your hair is something that I would love for my hair to do. My sister has 4c hair and it ALWAYS has the best hairstyles that last. Meanwhile there isn't a childhood picture of me with a beautiful hairstyle. It took me getting into high school before we learned what to do with this texture.
I have 4c hair also and it is a lot of work. I mainly do twist outs or go to salon and get rods. I just want to say thank you for your vulnerability to show your hair struggle on RU-vid. Love you 4c sista!
What works for my wash n gos: 1 soaking wet hair! 2 kinky curl knot today (good amount) 3 a little of moisturizing oil (helps gel not flake) 4 homemade flax seed gel MY FAV! So defining, but if you do not want to make your own (but you should) I also have the gel that you used and it works well, but with WATER I would love to see you try a wash n go again, but with everyone’s recommendations for more water. I wanna see your hair achieve this goal, bc if I can do it, you can do it!
Wash and go’s don’t go well until you find the right combo of products. Once you do you’ll love it and it’ll become a lot easier and faster. Also i would suggest banding it after it’s dry!
Helpful Hint: Mix a small amount of products on your hands or fingers first! Make sure they combing into a smooth cream/substance before applying to hair. If they clump and/or separate they’ll likely not do well together on your hair 💕
I’m also 4c and the only wash and go method that works for me was the one from Lucid Living TV. I co-wash (rinse with water and apply a heck of a lot of conditioner). Rinse the conditioner and then apply the Aunt Jackie Elongating gel while my hair is still soaked. I then comb it through and give my hair a good thorough shake. Shrinkage is always going to be a thing and it’s a sign of health so... it is what it is.
I don’t have 4c hair but I enjoy watching 4c hair videos. Your editing is dope, your personality is lit, and I was entertained throughout your video. Keep up the good work and I’ll be back to watch more videos from you.
I don’t understand the obsession with the wash n go aka jerry curl. I have 4a hair and it’s still a nightmare to detangle afterwards. Im good off wet, sticky, crunchy hair to achieve the jerry curl...it’s straight up single strand knot city..
I used to be obsessed with them, until I realized it just wasn't for me lol. I dont have to be a slave to my hair for it to look nice! Braid outs are fine, and no gel so it's less drying
Same here: I have 4B hair (super fine strands, plus not dense at all), and I’ve never understood why people love wash-n-goes because seems it takes everybody whose “type 4” about 90 minutes to complete, and u just *know* you’re gonna have knots for days after about 72 hours - at best! I’ll take that hour-and-a-half and do a twist out or braid out that will last me a full week, and then have minimal knotting when next washday arrives.
Yeah I have 4z hair so I don’t do wash and gos lol. All that work for it to not work out the way I want it to. Ain’t nobody got time for that. My hair shrinks straight to my head when I wash it so I have to do twists outs, braids outs or blow dry it and then do a twist out. Sometimes that doesn’t work either lol. Either way I love your hair!
I agree with you StarPuppy. For me the work - the time - the effort is just not worth the result you get on true 4c hair. I've seen you get more attractive styles using much less effort, time and product. You were really entertaining though. I love the weirdness so please keep bringing us those great videos!
You need tons of water for each of the sections and a good curl cream before using the gel or it will flake and be dry,you also need a leave in that will mesh with the gel and curl cream and a good oil like castor or jojoba to seal it all in.then you got to shake it a few times when it all finished and soaking wet still then let in sit and partly air dry for at least half an hour so the curl will set then diffuse it or sit under a hooded dryer. If you want it stretched then band it at night instead of using heat. Also because your hair is 4c lime mine you may need to use a curl cream, oil, and leave in in the morning to re-moisturize. Since your hair is shorter, running the product through is not the best method, you should probably shingle it,it will come out a lot better that way. Dont just put a bonnet on and sleep on it at night either, put into four large puffs if you pineapple it,It may not fully come back down.the African pride moisture miracle line is a God send when it comes to 4c wash n go's
Hey Danielle, just do what fluff nugget likes 🧡 I forced my 4c/b hair to do wash n gos because I wanted to see my natural curls and appear effortless. But it’s NOT effortless. I agree with everyone that water is a must! Your hair must be dripping wet. But wash n gos aren’t for everyone, in my opinion. Or it requires a different technique for everybody. My moms 4b and I give her wash n gos a certain way and it lasts 3 wks, and she sleeps on it with no scarf, no banding, no nothing... and it is defined every day. For myself, I’ve found a way to fake a wash n go that doesn’t require wet hair or hours of waiting to dry. The main thing I wanted was to see my curls CLUMP together. So now I twist my hair in about 35-40 twists... but while I’m twisting, I twirl each strand around my finger one time and then I twist normally for two full rotations, and I repeat this for the entire twist. The twirling clumps my strands. I don’t do it for the entire twist though because I fear it being too clumped a.k.a. Tangles. The next day I wear a very defined twist out that’s separated one time, but THAT NIGHT (this is what gives me the stretched wash n go appearance) I braid my twist out in 8-12 braids. So, within the braid, the hair is clumped together and that prevents frizz, provides a gentle stretch, and adds an extra crinkle that enhances definition. Then when I take out the braids, the hair falls in defined, clumped curls. I needed the uniformity! Most of my hair is 4c/b but the different textures hang differently and shrink differently. Doing a braided twist out gives me more control. Each night, I braid it up in 4-10 braids depending on the definition I want. This can last me 2 wks. I’m sorry Danielle, idk why I told you all this! I’m not saying it could work for you, but just that you will find your own way. My hair doesn’t like traditional wash n gos, and this way I get a uniform curl when I want it with very little shrinkage. I don’t do this every month.
It came out really cute. A tips for next time. Best results for wash n gos are when the hair a super wet. Apply your leave in, moisturizer & gel on super wet hair. Let your hair completely dry ( best is to air dry) before you band it. You can stretch it with heat the first day then band at nighttime to keep the length. Hope that helps. And yes, I want you to try it again! 🙂💜❤️
I'm happy you tried it. I had to do it about twice before I got it. I have 4c hair and I personally don't like that gel. Camille Rose Curl maker and Uncle Funky's curly magic gel work very well for 4c hair. Wetline gel works well too but leaves my hair a bit dry. The secret is to have your hair soaking, soaking, dripping wet when you apply your leave in and your gel. Just use your hands to smooth the products on and rake them through your hair section by section, re-wetting your hair if necessary. Shake your head to separate your curls. It's also essential to test your leave in and gel before you start to see if they will work well together. Rub a bit of both together on your hand and see if they mix smoothly. If they do it's a go. If they don't then they will likely flake when your hair dries.
I love wash n go’s, my favorite, easiest natural hairstyle. Gotta soak that hair with water, then apply the gel generously, but not overly so. Most times I don’t even do the whole sectioning off thing. Just wet it up and put the stuff on like I would apply conditioner. I ADORE Kinky Curly Curling Custard. I keep trying other products just because, but keep coming back to KCCC, cuz it just ROCKS my 4c’s! Cheaper stand-by is EcoStyler gel-ONLY the argon oil one with the red lid.
I feel like maybe if you saturated each section with water before applying the gel, it would have made a difference. I feel one gets the best definition for a wash and go on saturated wet hair. For the most part, what I saw is that you were adding gel to dry/damp hair and adding gel to dry/damp hair doesn’t give unless it’s really wet and well moisturized
I like the outcome. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to try it again with a different method. P.s I’m so happy I found someone that shares the struggles of my life😩. We’ll prosper together!
I saw her method in a naturallyphilo video. I use it, its the best method for me when it comes to my wash and gos. Edit: Here's the video I was talking about, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o_P9tnIzW8k.html. Method starts at 10 minute mark.
Here’s what I do: When you are first starting out with dry 4c hair for thin naturals you have to get moisture in your hair. To do this some people use the extreme moisture treatments and some pre poo.Your hair will tell you which one is needed. After awhile of doing it you won’t need to do it often. Then you wash your hair with a shampoo like Aunt Jackie’s because it won’t take out the moisture. Then you condition with a rinse out conditioner. Then you do a deep condition. Your hair will tell you if you need to sit under the dryer with a cap on. If so, 15 minutes is fine. You can also chose to sleep with the deep conditioner in. Wash it out with cold water this will lock in the moisture and seal your strands making them strong again from all that work. Do not towel dry. On wet hair apply leave in conditioner, then cream, and lock in with oil. Some people can stop here. Others need to use a gel to hold the stretch of the conditioner or they choose a method they want their curl pattern to form. You can do the shingling method to train your curls. I hope this helps. Don’t stop trying because you are not a quitter!
The tiny cap for your ear is great! I have mutiple piercings on my ears including the industrial and healing was more annoying than anything cuz when i would wash my hair all my hair would get caught
I have type 4 hair too. My best wash n gos are on soaking wet hair. Apply product in the shower or right out of the shower. It also helps to spray hair with water during product application process to keep hair dripping wet.
I am literally on like my 5th video in a row! 😀😂😂 Im officially subscribing! You are a beautiful young lady with a fun personality! I love your new cut! With it shrunk closer to your scalp, you look like a runway model! From one 4c sista to another, thank you for sharing your journey with us! ♥️
Rhonda Alexander she did it weird in my opinion. I can band my hair and it will be literally stretched, and I have 4c hair. When I band my hair it looks like a blow out. She needed to use actual like hair ties or thread for her roots. She needs to be carful tho because banding your roots too much is just a no lol
In addition to soaking your hair using a real Denman brush helps with curl definition. I purchased a de man brush and I LOVE for detangling and for bringing out my curl pattern.
How exciting when you have a fan/subscriber who can be your parent🤣🤣🤣 I really like your videos being disabled and some weeks I am stuck in the house and I binge on your videos. My 23 year old laughs at me but you are such a great orator and I so appreciate that in my young people. Looking forward to your decision on getting SISTERLOCKS 🤣🤣🤣 oh that's me thinking about getting them. Continue to be great my young sister BLESSINGS ❤❤❤ oh SN: I almost forgot you have an awesome comedic side.
I love you so much starpuppy but you trippin! I reeeeeeeeeally loves this wash n go! The more you do it the better you will get with your technique. The definition is so cute!!!!! Lol you’re gonna have to do it again!!! 😂😂😂
ok maybe i can give a tip if you feel like trying this again ... my hair isn’t fully 4c, but i have A LOT of shrinkage and little to no definition without product. I do my wash and gos pretty much on soaking wet hair, I use the mane choice biotin infused styling gel(on top of my leave in) it’s the best curl definer I’ve ever tried. Then to stretch my curls I use braids ! It’s genius because my hair gets stretch and anywhere my curls aren’t defined the braids help with that. I don’t like my hair to dry fully because then it’s a little hard and stiff, but if I take it out while it’s still slightly damp, I’ll get more shrinkage, but my hair dries softer and more to my own natural curl pattern. Lol sorry for the long comment just a tip and I promise my wash n gos come out soo bomb. But they definitely aren’t wash n GO’s lmaoo. More like wash, style and stay😂
Cute look! Even though I’m not a fan of wash n gos (team twistout 4EVA!!), I like! I definitely recommend using a detangling tool other than fingers, like a modified denman, a Felicia leatherwood, any thing to really clump and define!
1) Do it on wet hair, spray some when needed 2) Choose a good and compatible (with your gel) leave in to avoid the white cast 3) More water= less gel but still need a lot of it 4) Do it the morning to let it dry naturally 5) Use oil to if the gel is too strong
I have 4c hair as well but for my 4c "wash and go" look after washing my hair I spray it with creme of nature coconut milk detangling leave in, put Jamaican black castor oil on it, use wetline gel, and do two strand twists. The next day when I take down my twist and separate I have the best defined small curls
girl it’s cute! it is defined! but, when you try it again, definitely add more water before you apply leave in and gel! damp/soaking wet hair is key for wash n go’s. wash n go’s are all i do with my hair, twist outs and braid outs don’t work for me lol and band your hair after it’s at least 50% or more dry! i think wash n go’s can be a really cute look on you tbh
WATER WATER MOISTURE. I used to also get really pissed when doing my sHORT 4c it could get so frustrating... but it's true, keeping water on your hair before putting more products on it will make so much more of a difference! Good luck on your hair journey girl!
When I wash and go, I literally wash and go. Try leaving it to air dry after you wash and moisturize. It looked really good before you tried stretching it! 😍 Also, I love flaxseed gel as a curl definer. Maybe try it next time :)
Girl all you need is saturated hair. Your hair should be soaking wet. You need to have a spray bottle to rewet each section and be heavy handed with your gel. You don’t need oil but can use a leave in if you want. After your strands are coated in gel shake your hair around left and right, side to side vigorously and your curls will pop! And no bands. You should only band your wash and go after it’s 100% dry to stretch your coils! Love you 💜 You should try the Mane Choice Braid Out Glaze, Mane Choice Cheers Gelato, or Aunt Jackie’s Ice Curls Gel for a one product wash and go. No leave in needed!
I have a short hair cut and my wash and goes are basically wash, rinse, condition, rinse, apply leave in conditioning detangler. Comb. Next day defining cream
I think it turned out decent. Just a little dry looking. More water definitely. Your hair needs to be soaking wet. Wash &gos are definitely my go to now. I’m a TRUE lazy natural lol wash in the shower using my products there and literally going. Don’t have time for styling. I’m gonna share this over and over and rewatch once a day. Just to see you do it correctly lol
