I wish more people talked about the intrusive thoughts of OCD
@torontofriends8968

I have known I had OCD since I was 8 because I have some compulsions but I didn’t know about intrusive thoughts until I got diagnosed (finally) this year. I went to the doctor because I was getting snappy at my coworkers, which is not normal for me. I also noticed at the same time that my compulsions got worse and so started to research OCD more and realized I definitely needed to do something about it. So glad I did! I actually felt relieved when I got a diagnosis and started therapy and meds.

Thank you for sharing with us. I always just shut myself down when things scared me. I wanted someone to hold me and tell me that everything was going to be alright, even if He didn't know. My husband ask me what can I do, to make you feel safer. We have been married almost 35 years and he has always been good to me. He hugs me quite often and makes sure I don't need him to say everything is alright. He is 73 and still acts like my hero. God's been good to us.

@@nancysakmar2092 Excuse me for asking, but I am not from US and English is not my first nor second language, so I don't understand that one specific thing - when you are saying that you are "mental health therapist", what exactly is that means? In my country, that would mean you graduated from medical school (University, 6 years) where you decided to take direction to Psychiatry. So in my country that means you're a Doctor psychiatrist and psychotherapist. Is it the same in America? I apologize for my ignorance, but that's why I ask and that's why I hope to finally understand if there are any differences. Also sorry for my English! Greetings from Amsterdam 🌷
@nancysakmar2092

@@JuditaHoffman. In USA those who go to medical school and specialize become psychiatrists. Their roll is to determine the most effective medication. 95% of time they do not provide therapy. That is done by Mental Heath Therapists that are PHD, Clinical Counselors or Social Workers. Hope that helped.

I am in awe of Derrick being so open honest and raw about his health. I was raised in the 80’s and back then mental health was not a subject people talked about. It was a hush hush situation. I struggled my whole entire life with OCD, Panic and anxiety attacks. I have seen many therapists and have tried many medications. He mentioned a brain camp. Curious as to what they do and where one may be located on the East coast. Having mental health issues is a real thing. I am so happy that it’s no longer a taboo conversation. I am happy you both work together and have come a long way together. Having a partner who supports and understands is huge. When you battle these alone it is scary. Thank you so much for sharing this. I now hope I can find some help for myself. I am horrible at communication, which effects my relationship daily. Now knowing I am not alone brightens my day. Thank you once again.

Literally everything you described from the light switch, intrusive thoughts fit him to a t. We just got him into therapy. Also, how uou have to put your clothes in a certain place or the car window. My son couldnt get inti the car until he type some “code” on the side of the car. Or if he didnt do s certain thing he thought i may die in a car accident. Its so hard seeing him go through this. It rips my heart out that i cant just fix it. I am going to show him this video i think as an encouragement showing him hes not the only one and the words you say are so encouraging. @@elsiedawson81 It is so important that all people accept that mental health is the same as physical health, it's just a little different because mental health is not so visible and the patient has to explain for himself how he feels. I hope that the stigma around people's mental health problems will finally disappear completely and that people will pay more attention to this aspect of their general health.

This video is a blessing bc it’s incredible to see you so happy. It gives so much hope. Thank you!! ❤️❤️❤️

This was such an inspirational video. I appreciate you sharing this story. It's extremely difficult to accept anyone into your life after experiencing trauma. Thus was so special. Thank you for sharing. My son is 50 and has suffered with anxiety for ever. Even to the point of not being able to work. He is on disability witch is very hard to take as he has been a successful person in his career. He is getting better but as you said it comes and goes. Take your time and enjoy your life and Sara and Jack. Don't feel rushed into another baby. Jack is just a baby himself. And you will see unfortunately anxiety is passed on and Jack will feel some of this too. Love you guys you both are so sweet and beautiful. He is too.

This is soooooo important for people to hear! It's really easy to watch people like you on You Tube or any social media, & think their lives are perfect & compare ourselves to them, which in turn(at times) can lower our self esteem & have us thinking something is wrong with us if we have any issues or our life isn't perfect. Thank you for sharing such a private issue, I promise you are helping lots of people in doing so! 🥰

It’s so crazy how everyone is different. Because in the past 4 years i have taken Prozac and zoloft but Prozac didn’t help me with my OCD but it helped with my anxiety and then eventually I went to Zoloft and that helped with both. Now I’m doing great so it’s crazy to see how everyone’s journey is different but you can be experiencing the same things. That’s why you need to do what’s best for you because what other people are doing might not always work for yourself. as a teenager who’s experiencing this currently it was helpful to watch this video because I can see how there is a light at the end of the tunnel and fortunately i have already started to see progress in my life. Thank you for sharing your experience I love you guys.

Thank you for you honesty. When my younger brother was just starting 7th grade (he is now 62) he was challenged with anxiety and brain fog. He knew things weren’t right and was wise enough to ask for help. In the 1960, there wasn’t many medications or health help providers focused on youth. At that time, it was decided he should be hospitalized on a full time basis. He needed the full family’s support to work through his concerns. I am older so at the time I was out of the house and in a relationship. Our other family members I 2 sisters and 1 brother were moving on to college etc. My father was a very heavy drinker and had his own demons to handle. The support of qualified health professional, along with medication has enabled him to move on from that desperate situation. It took several years to get the right medication. I firmly believe he would not be here today without it. I pray and encourage all those that are suffering to reach out. You are a precious soul. As a loving family members you are also entitled to seek professional help. This field of medicine, counseling, therapy has many programs that can help. The phone health service is available. Your open truth is a beacon to others. Following your family that shows so much love and laughter is a testimony of blessings. It means so much to me to know you have been guided, by your faith, by your loving family.s support and trained mental help professionals to find your path. Thank you for sharing this important message. We are worthy of Gods love. 💐

My husband of 30 years has ocd. He never recognized it. 3 times with the light switch, alarm clock etc.. Closet color coded and separated etc..he does still follow the exact same morning routine to the detail. Over the years I helped him see little things and he has worked hard at letting things go one at a time. He will always have some things but we all do. He has actually worked at jobs that required him to be attentive to detail, something he's very good at because of ocd. He did have a break down and it was hard and scary. I never realized this was common. He did have to take medicine for awhile, anti anxiety but nothing else. At this point, in his 50s , he has pretty much left all the little control issues and the negative thoughts that go with them. He is still not good at change but many of us are not. I have learned to just work around the things that are not important like his morning schedule. My husband says he would have been dead without me but I doubt that. Im glad he finds me supportive tho. We all have things! All of us. Some for a season and some forever, either way none of us need feel alone because there is always someone who has been through it. God is awesome at giving us just the right mate to fit us tho. Be blessed, be well, be strong. You will find it gets much better over time, maybe just because age causes everything to settle down.

I followed you guys because you're the cutest couple and the cutest family! I never expected it, but I'm so happy that you shared your experience with OCD with us. I struggled with undiagnosed OCD until I was 26 and it was hell. It was terrifying not to know what was happening to me. OCD can latch onto any kind of thought, not just washing hands and checking stoves, and it never occurred to me that my relationship with my thoughts and fears were a psychological disorder until more than a decade suffering from it. I talk about my experience pretty openly because I don't want other people to have to spend years suffering when there is help out there, especially medication, ERP, and ACT. When you talked about feeling like you should be solid when you were struggling that really hit home. It was very painful for me to admit that I needed psychological help. It felt like admitting I was broken. Well, maybe I am a little bit, but at least I've got a few patches and splints in the right places so I can walk, run, and thrive. Here's to a fulfilling life with OCD!

I agree. I grew up LDS and for a lot of years the pressures to be "good enough" really contributed to my anxiety and depression. Then, I ended up leaving the church and going athiest because I was like well I'll never be enough so I may as well eat, drink and be marry. It wasn't til years and years later that my friend who was non-denom Christian explained God's love to me in a whole new light. That's when my anxiety really started to heal and then all the "good enough" stuff was a natural after effect of being truly accepted as I am. Now I go to the LDS church with my family from time to time but I always have to balance it with Christian ideas that go against the LDS faith to stay sane, anxiety wise, otherwise it spikes again thinking I'm not good enough to be saved.

Thank you Derick for opening up about your struggles. I think it's super important for people who are struggling w/ certain issues that they have someone that they can relate to, that they know that they can work through whatever their personnel struggles are. Often people think that "social media personalities" lives are this perfect utopia, & that there is "something wrong" w/ them if their lives aren't as "perfect" as what they see portrayed by influencers. And I agree that Most people would benefit from some form of therapy. As humans, we are ALL imperfect, we ALL have struggles, and we ALL have challenges to overcome in life. A belief in a "power greater then ourselves", (whom I choose to call God) is one great source of strength, as well as prayer & meditation. I'm so glad that your last therapist was holistically minded & got you off of all of those heavily sedating drugs, because they really do have Bad side effects & also become Very Addicting, & the longer you're on them, almost impossible to get off of. I'm not sure if you know any information about the gut/brain connection, and how the Vagus Nerve affects brain health, or lack thereof. Allopathic medicine is only starting to understand it's great importance. You might want to consider contacting Dr. Amen who is THE Authority on the brain, & how it's imbalances affects one's life. He doesn't treat people in a "cookie cutter" fashion, it's totally an individual experience. I would also suggest you look into possibly doing some body work clearing healing. Our body somatizes ALL of our traumas, physical, emotional & spiritual; you experienced all of those when you had your life threatening, life altering accident falling off the cliff. There is a type on non-invasive body/mind/soul therapy called Bio-field tuning. It was developed by it's founder & pioneer Eileen Mc Kusick. She has a YT channel, & here is her website for for more information for you to research. www.biofieldtuning.com I really think her theraputic tuning the Bio-field could help you release the trapped trauma in your mind/body/soul that you've experienced. God bless you, Sarah & Jack, and All of your family. I can truly Feel that you're All very good hearted & kind people, & I enjoy your families channel, & Tanner & Lo's. 🙏💞

My 27 year old daughter was diagnosed with Pure O OCD when she was 17. I recognised something peculiar in her just before the age of two. We’re in the UK, and although we have the National Health Service here in England I can tell you it is DIRE. We had to pay privately before we got a diagnosis and it was the best thing we ever did for her. Pure O is the worst OCD you can imagine. The bad thoughts are horrendous, and I know exactly how the thoughts can affect you. She she now is able to process her thoughts through the private therapy we got her. I feel so bad for people who are unable to pay for it.

@@torontofriends8968 I have good friends in Canada and have visited there before and by what they tell me it sound like your health system is very good, but still not good enough like here in the UK. NHS die hards rave about our health service but these are people who have never had to use it consistently. Even though we pay through our National insurance contributions more and more people here in the UK who can afford to are getting their own private medical insurance because the NHS is so bad. If you have a long term problem but non life threatening condition you’re basically -Kd. I have been through it and ended up having to go to a private clinic in London to get me cured after losing 7 years of my life. Our daughter had another breakdown during the height of the lockdown through working from home. We were desperate but the NHS refused to see her (phone appointments only) Her dad paid for her to have private sessions with a Pure O specialist face to face, which helped enormously (it certainly is strange how Covid can’t get you if you cough up the money). Honestly all of our GPS and specialists have and still are hiding in their offices only seeing urgent cases. It was bad enough anyway now it is beyond belief. We know her OCD will never go away, but she does manage it quite well with Paroxetine and the odd CBT session, which we still pay for because the NHS is still in full on pandemic mode. You’re right, it does need to change. I wish you well 👍🏻

@@DerikAndSarah So amazing, in just seven days, see how many people are talking about this subject and responded in the comments. I personally feel you've taken your platform to the next level with helping so many to see it is ok to share something that may be personal but people can relate and reach out.THANK YOU Derick and Sarah, much love to you both!!
