Lord of the Rings is the only series that I put ahead of The Dark Tower. I have to say, it is so cool reading his other books that connect to the series. So Good!!!

So awesome to hear about your Discworld journey. I did the same thing you're doing which is reading from publication order after reading a couple out of order!

I also started Discword chronologically with 1 and 2 and I absolutely loved them! I don't get why so many think the color of magic is a bad book, it's one of my favorite of the series

I'm happy you liked it! I certainly didn't think it was a bad book but I think I'm kinda meh on it. It was just decent for me.

In June everything I read were absolute BANGERS: *Fantasy* Dresden Files 12: Changes - Plus the short story "Aftermath" False Sun - R Scott Bakker (short story) *Historical-Fantasy* The Lions of Al-Rassan - Guy Gavriel Kay - Did I become a Kay stan? Yes I did cuz this beat Changes for my favourite book of the month. Strong contender for my book of the year. *Sci-Fi* Elder Race - Adrian Tchaikovsky (novella) - Well, I'm officially a fan now. Slaughterhouse Five - Kurt Vonnegot Though sadly I am starting to get Fantasy series burnout so I'm gonna pause the Fantasy series I currently have ongoing for a while except maybe Long Price Quartet. But right now I need more standalones.

Nothing wrong with switching up genres and DAMN! Changes for unseated?! I've heard great things about GGK though so I definitely need to read some of his books for myself.

I read 6 books in June, which was better than I expected because one of those books was the Crippled God by Steven Erikson. It was pretty good. I also read Salem's Lot, Knife of Dreams, Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo, Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett and a book called Ariadne by Jennifer Saint. I can't decide if I like Salem's Lot or Crippled God for my book of the month.

I recently got The Gunslinger and I'm not sure when I'm going to start it but I'm looking forward to reading The Dark Tower. Glad to hear you're enjoying it! Your description of it vaguely reminded me of a sci-fi series I'm reading now called Deathstalker. It takes sci-fi tropes and dials everything up to 11. It's nuts!
@alexnieves

I'll have to look into Deathstalker for myself, how are you liking it? Dark Tower is super weird and awesome, I hope you enjoy it.

@@alexnieves I’m halfway into book 1 and it’s a lot of fun. It’s a pulpy sword and planet space opera and kind of feels like if Shane Black or Joe Carnahan wrote/directed Sun Eater.

I wasn't a huge fan of the first two Discworld books either as opposed to Mort and Guards Guards. I hope you enjoy Wizard and Glass next month Alex- great wrap up. I need to get to The Gentleman Bastards soon.

@@alexnieves ngl I'm kind of losing steam with it. I feel like I'm in it so far now that I just got to keep going, but it's definitely not going to be like a favorite series of all time.
@alexnieves
@alexnieves 2 года назад
@@americanchic1101 If you make it to Knife of Dreams it's smooth sailing but you gotta get through the slog first and the slog straight up sucks IMO. If you aren't really feeling it just don't force yourself. I'm happy to have read it all but it's not a favorite series for me with just how up and down it was.

I get what you are saying about the Dark Tower books Not being encassed inside one book. I still think out of all them (except the last one, cause I am not done) I still think the Drawing of the Three was my favorite cause it felt like you got some resolution. I think the wolves of the Calla is similar. Plot points are still moving, but there is a whole story inside of it. I didn't care for the fourth one, so I am curious to see how you like it, though I think my opinion is pretty unpopular.

I think in one of the author notes in the dark tower, King mentions it took a lot out of him to focus on the dark tower story. Good observation on that bc you’re right it is unique! I’ve been reading Junji Ito’s manga. Uzumaki is my fav of the three I’ve read so far.

In a lot of ways Red Seas Under Red Skies is my favourite of the three but if we're talking in terms of how it's paced, easily my least favourite of the three though I was grateful Lynch was less reliant on flashbacks.

I started in on Discworld in what's apparently publication order, and I've been having a great time with it. I've been going through the old audiobooks with a very dry, British narrator, and I feel like it suits the writing superbly. Favorite read in June was absolutely Starfighters of Adumar. Possibly now my favorite X-wing book.

I totally get it and it's definitely not for everybody. I think for me if I had started with Color of Magic or Light Fantastic I would have been very underwhelmed. My guess would be that if you've tried Guards Guards and didn't like it then the humor and style just isn't going to work for you.
