I have made videos in the past about what psychosis was like for me. As an individual who is bipolar one with psychotic features I have had a few episodes of psychosis in my life.
But psychosis doesn't just affect the individual that has a disorder that involves it. psychotic episodes have a great impact on the family friends and loved ones of those experiencing psychotic symptoms especially if it is their first episode or their first time dealing with their loved ones psychotic episode.
Navigating being the family of what it's like to see, support, and help an individual navigate the system of receiving proper help during an episode of psychotic illness. Along with what it means and how it feels to have a loved one who has such symptoms periodically when they're not actively psychotic. That is primarily what this video is about
The mere mention of psychosis can terrify people. it is very misunderstood and feared and stigmatized and this view is perpetuated in popular culture.
I wanted to share my experience to the best of my ability to help demystify the condition.
As the psychotic individual is not the only individual touched by psychotic illness I wanted to begin to open up dialogue from the family of because they are the essential other half of this picture that I cannot speak of because I am the one afflicted not the one that knows and loves the one afflicted with psychotic illness.
This video is lengthy we didn't mean to go on for so long hopefully there will be something in it that you find relatable or comforting or informative. and this is likely a subject that will be elaborated on with more specific videos in the future.
