My Nightmare Project! Mid Century Modern Corner Cabinet

In this video I make officially my worst ever project! A mid century modern style corner cabinet to hold some hifi equipment for our dining room. I believe the wood is Iroko, which is also known as "poor man's Teak"! The handles and hinges are solid brass. The legs are a mystery hardwood (probably meranti).

This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ru-vid.comUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.

It's always good to have a reality check- nothing ever goes perfectly and highly edited RU-vid projects can often leave you with unrealistic expectations. In the end though, the cabinet looks great and you can hardly tell that you made any mistakes.

I feel that your honesty in your mistakes is exactly what needs to be shown in an instructional video about woodworking. It’s exactly what happens in real world woodworking. And new woodworkers that only see perfect work never see how to repair their own mistakes. Thanks for your honesty brother.

“What are you working on?” Mr. K. was asked. Mr. K. replied: “I’m having a hard time; I’m preparing my next mistake.” Bertolt Brecht, Stories of Mr. Keuner - I should hang this quote on my workshop wall. Thank you for your honest report on all the issues you came across. I as a mere mortal amateur would have made twice as many mistakes in three times the time. Nice result, you can be proud of.

I've said it before, one of the things I've always appreciated about your channel is the inclusion of mistakes made on projects - because it happens to us all. This project seemed to fight back, which made me smile a bit, for which I apologize.

In my opinion... errors/build problems, if you discover them and resolve them, are not not anything worth making an issue about. You discovered all your errors, resolved them and ended up with a beautiful project in the end. I think it looks wonderful. Despite the difficulties along the way, a job well done!

Your cabinet turned out beautifully and showed me I should never give up - just take my time and patiently work through things. Thanks mate 👍

This shows exactly what I feel like doing projects at home. Mistake after mistake. An added bonus for me is that I never have the correct tools or parts available, no matter how much stuff I buy, I always need that one weird specialty tool, drill-bit, screw or whatever plyer-o-saw.

That old hardwood came up lovely. Cannot believe you painted inside the unit & didn't bother painting the backs of the doors. Personally would have done a full back on it also, you're going to scuff the wall with logs & also have bits of wood fall out the back. But it looks good & suits the room very nicely.

I was making fitted wardrobes in the bedroom, with a newly finished 30's pine floorboards, that had taken a week's work. I managed to over plunge in to the floorboards. There was some swearing. Now the floorboard now has a beach inlay. Years ago managed to badly ding up my brand new UJK pro router table top and the 10mm aluminium plate on day one, so very much identify with the self doubt that occurs when you damage something new through error. Enjoy the contract as always.
