FYI - The photos I inserted in this video had to be cropped to 16:9, so some may not be framed the best due to that. You can see the proper images in my photo gallery (link in description) My photo galleries are here: www.thephotographyhobbyist.com/ Europe trip gallery: www.thephotographyhobbyist.com/VACATION-AND-SHORT-TRIPS/HISTORIC-SITES/Italy-and-Spain-History-and-More/

Davinci Resolve is a fantastic program. Free version does a lot, Studio version is worth the one time $299.00. One of the best reasons is faster render times since Studio uses the graphics card to support rendering. Studio also accepts more file formats for import.

Understood you are looking at Maryland sites, and this one has been on my list for some time, but the Conowingo dam (just outside of Balt) is locally famous for Eagle shots. I haven't been just yet, but planning. Gotta get there early for the best seats though, and have a good long lens of course.

Cool, thanks. I don't think I'll be that far over though on this trip. Mostly staying to the west and at the Civil War locations.

Your experience with the Z8 seems similar to mine. My biggest question to myself was, could I live with the Z8 as a travel camera. I had thought about keeping my Z7ii as my travel camera, but when I got the Z8 in my hands, I decided I could part with the Z7ii (I also have the Z9.). I've been hiking a few times with the Z8 and just took it on a short trip from California to Michigan. The Z8 is great for hiking and to me is much more amenable to travel than the Z9 and not much different than the Z7ii. I also sent in the Z8 on the Service Advisory and got it back in 12 days, including weekends and a holiday.

Smart to get it repaired. I think that Nikon may have returned it with the default changed so the sensor cover closes when the camera is off. That’s the right default in my opinion.

"I think that Nikon may have returned it with the default changed so the sensor cover closes when the camera is off." Not sure about that, but I already had that as the setting on my Z8 and they didn't clear my settings or default anything. Came back just like I sent it in (as far as the customizations I had already made to the settings).

I got mine within a week. I live in the Baltimore area. Packaging was very good and I think Nikon did a very good job. No issues with my Z8

Glad yours made it OK. The problems with shipping I mentioned were not Nikon's fault. It was the usual 'things that might happen' type of stuff when shipping anything. It's especially distressing when it happens to your $4,000 camera.

Also in Baltimore area, took a little over a week, but Fourth of July was in there. Also well packed. Like many had no issues but decided to send it in.

I had quite a similar repair experience with my z8. I wasn't having any issues, but figured I'd get it handled during some downtime so it wouldn't possibly become a problem later this year when I have some important shoots. I had mine back in hand 11 days after dropping off at UPS. My box came back with a corner slightly smushed but overall box in good shape, with exact same packing as you described. Did some test shooting after back, and still working perfectly.

It's always a relief to get it back. This is one of the stories I mentioned (his camera wasn't damaged, but still....yikes): www.dpreview.com/forums/post/67123882 And there was another guy that got a message from UPS saying the his package was destroyed and contents missing. Nikon agreed to give him another camera. I'm glad mine was OK and none of that drama.

@@ThePhotographyHobbyistthanks for the info on ups. Mine wasn’t in the initial recall but now claims it is. I’ve shot events with the Sony 50 GM adapted, the 85 1.2, the 17-28 Z, and the 400 4.5. So far, no problems snapping to place. Just like my Z9. So I will definitely hold onto it for now. I have a few events coming up where I’ll use the 400 again and the Sony 50 GM.

@@davetv8171 You're welcome. The shipping issues are just your usual 'stuff that could happen' sort of thing and you never really know if you'll be one of the unlucky ones. Some people have more trouble with FedEx than UPS. Personally, I've always had much better luck with UPS. Also, I don't think the union and UPS reached an agreement yet and their contract expires on July 31, so there's a possibility of a strike coming and if that happens...oh boy...you don't want your camera stuck in the UPS system when that happens. Nikon did tell me they were watching that closely and if there's a strike I guess they'll use another carrier, but what happens if your camera was already in transit when the strike hit?...nightmare.

@@ThePhotographyHobbyist I know. That is scary. Luckily the lenses I have snap into place as well as the megadap adapter for the Sony, so I will hang onto it. If I run into problems, I’ll send it when I’m not using it or just use the Z9. The Z8 is just too good to send away right now. My next few weeks are busy with it. But that’s good so I can test it further. It’s good for Nikon to support the recalls on their product. Cause it could be early batches and some could show up in mid to late batches. Even though I don’t see an issue yet, don’t mean somebody else won’t. How do you like your Z8 so far?
@ThePhotographyHobbyist

@@davetv8171 I thought about waiting to send mine in (never had any lens mounting issues anyway), but at the time, I had just returned from a trip and had a lot of photos to edit and I wouldn't be needing my camera for a few weeks (except for when I just 'wanted' to use it), so I sent it in and got it over with. Regarding how I like the Z8, I love it. It's easily the best camera (best all around camera) I've owned, and I've owned too many. I like to think of it as the new D700 because back in 2008 when I bought a D700, it was a beast and was more than I'd ever need for several years and I think that's what the Z8 is now, but of course it's way better than the D700 regarding what it can do amongst its peers. It's a wonderful all around great performer. I even use AF-C 3D Tracking for static subjects because it works so well (makes focus/recompose very easy and it means no slightly out of focus photos when you have shallow depth of field, regarding focus and recompose if I had used AF-S and single point AF instead for focusing, like I used to in the past). www.thephotographyhobbyist.com/CAMERAGEAR

What tour company did you use for your Europe trip?
@ThePhotographyHobbyist

Explorica. I found out the tour guide was new and that was her very first tour. So that explains why I had a bad experience as far as things she could control.

My 35/1.8 s is tight on my Z5.
@ThePhotographyHobbyist
@ThePhotographyHobbyist Год назад
That’s the exact lens that was causing problems on another guy’s Z8. It’s like the ears on that one are a tiny bit thicker and with the affected Z8s (the service advisory), apparently the 35mm is getting snagged on the little leaf springs in the lens mount and that stops it from fulled mounting (can’t fully rotate it and lock it in place). I assume the affected Z8 cameras have a lens mount that’s just a tiny bit too tight which causes that 35mm lens in particular to get snagged

Are you referring to the Z8 service advisory about the lens mount? If so, there’s a video here that shows it. I’ll post a link. I also had a photo of this in my video. Maybe you missed it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MBGqjTsI7uw.html
