Extending the warranty is a no-brainer. Never own a modern Porsche outside warranty. But isn’t this quite new? In Norway, we get 5 yrs of warranty. I bought a 2018 Cayenne last year with only 6 months of its remaining factory warranty, and got 3 yr PAW included in the purchase. It has saved me for 10000£’s worth of repairs and parts already.

Generally if you buy an approved used Porsche from a dealer then they give 2 years warranty (if it’s relatively new anyway, not sure about older models), so if you’re lucky the timing could give you 2.5 years warranty or more

Definitely keep the plates. They look nicer and you really don’t need to mess about with number plates to try to make the car more special than it is.

Everything on a Porsche is expensive when it goes wrong so the warranty gives you peace of mind. I extended mine on the Anniversary Boxster 986 which I bought new and so until I no longer could

Here’s my 2 cents worth. If the other plates are legal, the choice is down to the individual. I prefer the standard. Here’s something I learnt many decades ago. Tuning: You have 2 categories. 1/ the manufactures got it wrong and you can do a better job. (Rare) 2/ you want more power, you bought the wrong car. Extended warranty: save the money you would have spent on a warranty and expect to pay some of it towards a repair in the future. Great video as always.

Love this 👍 Here’s a third. The manufacturer wanted to do something but legislation stopped them. For example exhaust noise. I be and after market exhaust the enhance the sound 👍

Totally agree with you about extended warranties. About 35 years ago I was talked into buying an extended warranty for a small electrical appliance. I realised when I got home it was a waste of money so ever since I have refused every extended warranty offer and instead starting putting aside the money saved for when something broke. I now have a very healthy "slush fund" to cover any eventuality particularly as this pays for repairs AFTER the extended warranty would have expired.

Great update - always sensible and very grounded. I have a 718 Cayman which is just 4 years old. I bought mine from Porsche at 2 years old , so you get 2 years warranty on top of the first 3 years (5 years in total) - worth considering when buying used. Just had my 4 year service - be prepared for a large bill next year! Thank you.

My Macan S hit 3 years old last October. I extended the Porsche warranty for another 2 years. Fast forward to this year. Air suspension first failed on 23rd February! It was repaired and then failed again 1 month ago! It’s still currently in the OPC. The bill is fast approaching 5k! No joke!

@@stuartbrowning3074sorry to hear about your troubles with the air suspension. Hopefully the warranty has kicked in in both incidencs and you have saved all those £1000s. Do you mind me asking what they quoted you on the extended Porsche warranty?
@stuartbrowning3074
@stuartbrowning3074 8 месяцев назад
@@TMQ1981 from memory the standard Porsche U.K. warranty costs about £800, (breakdown cover is extra). My repair bills were all covered by the warranty. I absolutely wouldn’t consider not having Porsche extended Warranty. They are very complex and expensive cars to repair. Mines been running perfectly since the repairs which were done to a very high standard. Suspension geometry and tracking are perfect, and things you notice are that all the suspension bolts were replaced, presumably regardless of wear.
@TMQ1981
@TMQ1981 8 месяцев назад
@@stuartbrowning3074Thanks Stuart for a quick and helpful response! Agreed. An absolute no brainer at £800 annually, or anything in that ball park for the Porsche Extended Warranty. At that price it's actually somewhat of a small cost, that is when compared to what you end up having to pay for anyway and have no choice but to cover, that is when operating a high end performance car like a Porsche which is quite complicated mechanically in a good way. With already quite high unavoidable typical Porsche overheads, like the relative annual cost of fuel, road tax, insurance, tyres, even servicing and consumables, like oil, all together will run into the multiple thousands, which means that at the end of the day it really makes no sense to not just also factor something like only an extra

Same position re warranty in August on my CGTS. I’m going to take 3 years I think. I also have an email from my OPC saying the zunsports do not affect warranty. Also if you take the warranty before the star 3 years has expired there is no inspection required and no cost for the inspection

I'm VERY happy to hear that you simply ENJOY your Porsche! It's refreshing to see that you're not obsessing over this modification or that tune. Just letting go and relishing the time you, the missus, and the pups spend in this fine automobile is the thing to do...and you're doing it. Not knowing which end of a spanner is which, I would take out an extended warranty on a Porsche. You know what, though? You and I both read about manufacturers NOT creating enough spare parts and quickly retiring "outdated" inventories of spares. I wonder if extended warranties in the case of rare cars like yours are actually a good idea in this case... My final car, a 2001 Prius, had an extended warranty (all those hybrid gubbins looked a nightmare) for the 4 years I owned it. No problems ensued...until that texting driver took out my car as it sat at a stop light. That's NOT covered by an extended warranty, 😅🤣😂. Keeping doing what you do: enjoying all your drives.

I almost always buy the manufacturer's extended warranties, especially if I'm not familiar with that particular model or manufacturer. My current BMW has a 4-year factory warranty. I bought the extended warranty so I'm covered for pretty much everything for 7 years. (basically 3 extra years) It's a gamble and I accept that. If nothing goes wrong, BMW wins. However, I mainly want the peace of mind. I now have a new BMW and I don't really need to worry about anything for the next 7 years and 100,000 miles. That's a mighty long time not to have to worry about having to pay hundreds or even thousands of Dollars on a potential repair. Extended warranty is basically insurance. You buy it to protect yourself for repairs that you don't want to pay.(or can't afford to pay) Life is too short. I don't mind letting BMW make some money off me, while offering me stress-free driving for 7 years. I didn't buy the extended warranty and expect to "win" money off BMW. :) (for that, I'll just buy some lottery tickets or visit my favorite casinos) :)

We’ve got a 4 year old cayenne which has Porsche extended warranty. To be honest it’s paid for its self. Had a headlamp replaced £700 + £400 labour. Window switch replaced £200 + £350 labour. A years warranty was £940.00. With Porsche labour rates just increased to £248 per hour in my opinion it’s a good investment. I do however get it serviced at a specialist, who uses genuine Porsche parts.

I’m going to sway towards yes! My 718 Cayman GTS was coming up to 5-years old and a few things started to creep in. Many things solved on warranty but things like an exhaust leak wasn’t covered…I was recommended by many to find a really good specialist and have them inspect the car, then keep on top of maintenance. Enjoy!

I’ve bought two used-approved Porsches and didn’t extend the warranties on either. Instead, I self-warrant: put aside a bit each month for tyres and servicing, which acts as a financial buffer in case something fails. More usefully, start a programme of preventative maintenance; get friendly with a decent specialist, get the car on the ramp annually and keep a close eye on everything. Annual oil changes too. As to mods? Full paint correction and ceramic (can’t recall if you’ve done this already) and perhaps push the wheels out a touch with spacers?

Modern cars cost so much to repair if something goes wrong and it's a completely obscene amount if you require anything major in the drivetrain. I have always taken the extended warranty on the grounds that £850/£900 a year for 2 or 3 years gives me peace of mind and protects me from a potential £10K plus bill for a new gearbox or major engine issue.

I once had an M3 convertible. It came to me with Manufacturer's warranty and so I renewed it. Thank god I did. The front brakes locked up and I had to limp home. The disks were ruined but it was all replaced under warranty. Later, the car went in to BMW for an MOT. It failed, due to a perforated exhaust manifold. The engine had to come out to fix it. That warranty saved me a lot of money. I don't buy extended warranties on domestic white fgoods, because the value is low - but the bills for repair of expensive cars can be huge...

You absolutely need to extend your Porsche warranty. My 2019 Macan S (with 17k gentle miles on the clock), has had air suspension failure-problems since February. Apart from currently being sat in the OPC (for nearly a month, this time)! The warranty repair bill, is fast approaching 4K+ Compressor failure, and now front air strut failure. Best of all they’re not sure it will cure the problem? Fortunately I have other cars I can use, including a totally reliable 13 year old Mini Cooper S. isn’t that ironic?

Hi. I have a 2018 718 boxster . Absolutely love my car in every way . I did take out the extended warranty £1250 for 2 years . Very glad I did . Had a engine waring light come on soon after renewing my warranty . Turned out to be 2 sensors on the cam on RHS of the engine . Sensors cost about £200 but labour was 13 hour's due to the position of sensors and realignment of suspension as this had to be removed to gain assess to the area to be worked on. They also replaced a noisy actuator that groaned when I turned the car ignition off .For me it was well worth it. The boxster is complicated bit of kit. Also My Porsche Dealer was excellent .

I have a late 2016 718 Cayman which I bought 3 years ago. It came with a year’s warranty and during that time I had a (small) leaking water pump replaced by a Porsche specialist (I did not want to chance driving it too far with a water leak to a dealer). Cost around £700. No warranty since and no other issues. Never bought an extended warranty in my life (coming up to 60) however I put £1000 each year I had the car to one side in case of problems. Now have £3000 saved and will not top it up nor spend it unless big issues with the car.

I replaced the oem Conti tyres on my Honda Civic Type R FK8 with Michelin Pilot Sport 4s tyres and found they are worth the extra £30/tyre cost. The Michelin's give less road noise, a more comfortable ride, the steering is slightly heavier which I prefer in comfort mode & they do not chunk chunk when manoeuvring in cold weather. The Michelin's will also have a longer life than the Conti tyres which still had a good three mm tread depth at 15k miles when changed but one had a slow puncture. My car is now four years old & i did not take out an extended warranty as car is driven gently for 4k miles/year & is a HONDA. However, it is advisable to take out extended warranties on German cars of all makes. My son in law had a current model Audi S3 & near end of its one year extended warranty a leak in a gearbox seal required a new auto gearbox & the infotainment system also needed replacing. But for the warranty the cost would have been several thousand pounds. He now has a three year Audi RS6 Avant & will extend the warranty when the Audi used car warranty expires.

Great update Pete. Very surprised by your approach on extended warranty (each to their own) I own an M5 Comp had it 3.5 years now , paying £94 per month for BMW extended warranty, my view is very much risk mitigation, ergo rather pay a grand or so over the next 12 months than have to shell out 1000's for a new engine. Good luck

@strangerdanger8462 Год назад
The fear is what they use to sell you the extended warranty. If you put aside that £94 in a savings account, that's over a thousand Pounds saved every year. And that money is still yours if there are no major repairs. If there are any repairs, you have the money set aside for it.

Selling the extended warranty is done by what's called 'back up the hearse and let them smell the flowers'. I'm with you on this one - I took the car to Paragon who checked it over, said they can't find anything on it that looks like it may fail. I then decided not to renew the warranty. However I'm not with you on the tuning front - I've just taken my GT4 to GAD Tuning in Essex - they have produced miracles for me.

I went for Subaru gold on the wheels, and the contrast just lifted the car wonderfully. Here's some magic contrasting complimentary colour combos: Silver car/Gold wheels Black Car/Amber wheels Navy blue/Cyan Blue Yellow/Orange Red/Bronze Grey/Burgundy It's such a cheap option, and it really lifts the appearance of any car.

personally the warranty is a no brainer but my 991 targa was 6 years old when i bought it and had done 24k miles. i bought from an independent dealer but they put it through the 111 point porsche check at an OPC before i bougnt it. the 2 year warranty is about £1900 and for a £75k value car clearly proportionate to me. the piece of mind has value and i did it for "just in case" the worst happens. suffice to say the warranty paid for itself several times over as i needed some of the "usual" fixes and one or two unusual ones too. i just renewed for 2 more years as i plan to keep the car and porsche will let you renew up to 15 years old i think. i think the OPC warranty is excellent as it has covered everything that has failed on mine no question asked. if i trade in early for a main dealer car the unused balance can be refunded. if i trade to an independent dealer a few months left of warranty can be transfered to the new owner and must add value to the car. yours will be a good choice not to renew right up until you need any repair. good luck.

No - and depends on who your dealer is. I had my 981 under warranty and reported an issue (smell of exhaust gasses in the cabin). I was told there was nothing wrong with it, the smell is normal. Extended the warranty another 2 years. Then after deciding the warranty wasn't worth the money the car was recalled (something to do with the suspension). During the repair with free Porsche inspection - guess what - the exhaust manifolds needed repairing since exhaust gasses were escaping (this was 4 years after I first reported it) - of course I was charged to fix it. My car is no longer looked after by Porsche Cambridge.

Number Plate: On my first Boxster (2001) I got stopped by the police after 9 months of using my misplaced plate. I had to change the reg. plate and have kept it legal since then in all my Boxsters (on my 4th now). Not worth the hassle. Just keep it legal. Warranty: I decided to extend my warranty for a further two years (up to 6 yrs now). I know all about bathtubs. I have never taken out an extended warranty on a car before now, including any of my previous 6-cylinder Boxsters. I intend to keep this car long-term and the cost of repairs can be prohibitive. My main reason is that the 4-cylinder Boxster has many vacuum solenoids and another bit including engine cooling fans, intercoolers, and an engine coolant reservoir above the engine that can only be accessed by dropping the engine to access them. The good news is that the whole power unit including drive shafts and brakes comes out as one unit on the 718; Not so on the 981. It takes 2 days to changout using special Porsche handling equipment. The wheels have also to be realigned. The cost of taking out the engine at a Porsche garage for any work is higher than the cost of the warranty and the warranty covers everything else that could go amiss too. Why do I say all this? Here is a link to the power unit taken out of my car during the change-out of my engine coolant reservoir. In 981's the coolant tank is accessible from the top of the car but not on the 718 even though they share many common body parts! It's an engine out job. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uyJu5c20E08.html I wish you well and fingers crossed.

Local plod had no problem, commenting we know the car, we know where you live, and we know your office. So happy days. Legal plates switched on MOT date. Coming up to date still have the plate on Audi SQ5 AUD150V AUDI SQ5😉 Since moving into the surveillance state in which we now live, and the change in attitude of the boys in blue, given up on the questionable spacing. Extended warranty no clear cut answer. When I bought my Carrera 4 S it had 2 yr warranty, on expiry I did opt for extension of the Porsche warranty for a further 2 yrs. coming to sell the car a year later this definitely helped sale if the car with a very good price.🤔

There is a trick you can try for the tyre pressure warning. Just go to the tyre pressure menu, then go to "tyre type" and change the tyre from "summer tyre" to "winter tyre" and left the car to acquire data. Then change again to "summer tyre" and the issue should disappear. I'm not sure about the names on menus as I'm Spaniard and my menus are in Spanish.

I never doubted she wouldn’t fly through her MOT 👌🏻 If I’m honest I like the shape of the other plate, but I don’t like it when people space their plates, it’s as though they couldn’t afford the plate that says what they want so they manipulate the plate. With regards to the Pilot 4S tyres I’m totally with you. I recently completed 1600 miles on a Nurburgring trip with my GR Yaris on 4S’s as opposed to my Cup 2 track alloys as I thought they’d take the miles better. The 4S’s were incredible with the pressures managed and after multiple laps held incredibly well. Plus I was still able to enjoy the GR on the twisties around Adenau.

As to warranty....I have an approved, used car ona 66 plate. It came with a 2 year warranty from Inchcape Porsche in Bournemouth that ends in August 24. I can extend the warranty until the car is 12, that is 2031....as long as it is serviced by Porsche. It seems to me that either I go "indi" in 2024 or stay with Porsche and get warranty extensions. Difficult. And I to am in love with MPS 4s tyres...

No extended warranty on 991 as its on light duties and I want to use independent service business. Have extended W on Cayenne S diesel as v expensive engine, has pano roof which I hate as if you cut holes in the roof water can get in (blocked drains etc) and drown expensive ECUs, I've had mine fixed once already. Finally Cayenne have had transfer box issues, mine has been replaced once too so Ive had value.

When you first inflate a new tyre unless you use a nitrogen inflator there will be a mix that includes oxygen, a gas that seems to leak from new tyres faster than other gases. I have found that it can take several thousand miles and several tyre pressure top ups to get to the final and stable readings. Add on the mileage for the new tyre to properly settle into the rims, and take up its permanent shape. Manufacturers recommend running in a new tyres for some distance before using them at speed, to prevent overheating and damage to the structure.

The lexus extended warranty is amazing - my rx450 had lexus warranty until it turned 12 and had 134000. 1 week before the warranty ran out they replaced for free a couple of things that would have cost me over 900.!! They are probably the only company who do this.

I do agree about the warranty, however, I recently e tended the warranty on my daughters Mazda CX30. Why? It provided full recovery as well as mechanical failure and was competitively priced against other recovery products. My advice would be to look at all of the options. Please keep the legal plates❤

Peter…late comments again but I agree with all you say really. The revised number plates look better in my opinion as the original standard plates look lost. In fact I was looking at a new RRS sport rear and thought how much better it would look with a black plastic panel to fill the very awkward looking space on an awkward looking rear end…in fact I much prefer the old one! Warranty…I do buy one for the Land Rover…a full cost one has been £98pm but this year rose to £128!!!…that o thought too much do now have the £3000 limit per repair version at £78pm…why??…well so far, over £3000 spent and my only repair was a change of rear diff oil to cure a strange rubbing sound which is air bubbles in the oil. It was free but would have been £490 so…£3000 gone and £490 saved.Hmmm…none of my LR’s have been really troublefree but too many spout misery on every forum possible so there is a risk…and Ingenium engines can blow..the older ones for sure!….but after five years I am thinking it is time to change…but to what..an Argghh moment! So…for you..put the special plates back on, no warranty, collect your new Defender next year!! 😀😀😀😀😀😎😎😎😎

Each to their own however I do have the extended Porsche warranty and without it I would be facing a £15K bill. My car is currently having both turbo's replaced under warranty due to oil feed pipe issues - Porsche 991.2 Carrera 4 GTS 😞Also the rear LCD light bar failed £750 without labour costs included. The extended warranty cost offered by Porsche is both competitive and also offers peace of mind.

Hi Peter. Mature content as usual. Keep it going. Re first UK MoT periods. It differs. You are correct, GB = 3years. However, in Northern Ireland, also part of the UK, the first MoT is 4 years. Re number plate spacing, you have now publicised you know the correct spacing for your plate, let’s hope you don’t have to explain it. Bonne chance. 🤞

Good on you not going down the typical RU-vidrs route of modifying and just enjoying it as Porsche intended. I was like that with my JCW it was fast enough as is until it wasn't and I traded up. With the regards the warranty maybe you would have reconsidered that question if you had a JLR product but then again they are very good at claiming that bit is not covered or the classic line I got was that is a secondary warranty not a new warranty but it was the same company and same policy booklet etc. etc.

Cupra check my wheel alignment as part of the service. Tyres can depend on the car as most manufacturers of sports cars and hot hatches develop the handling with a certain tyre. Michelin Pilot Sport 4's are good but expensive but can last longer than other makes if looked after. I haven't ever had an issue with Pirelli P Zero tyres that were fitted to two of my cars other than in the wet they can be a bit hard when they aren't warm enough but who would drive quick in the wet anyway on normal roads ?

I used to cut the ends off the number plates,but the last time I changed my car,I got cut down plates 3/3 with the bs number engraved in the centre which you hardly see unless you look for it,which is all legal,pass MOT no problem. I usually take the manufacturer warranty,as I then know if anything goes wrong,I’m hopefully covered,I’ve got three extended warranties at the moment.

Interesting opinion on the warranty! I think if it was your only car and it was on finance that maxed you out and you had basically no dispensable income as a result. Paying for the warranty makes sense, because if something was the crop up and take the car off the road and you couldn’t afford to fix it you are in big trouble and you would be kicking yourself. But if you’re in a position that you’ve got another car to use and you can afford those expenses, it makes complete sense to not go with the warranty as you’re guaranteed to be giving cash away when you may not need to. For the first time in quite a few years, I’ve not had a car on finance or under a warrant. It’s 11 years old and with no warranty (was in incredible condition and low mileage when got it). It has a stage 1 tune and I’ve taken it from 18k to 36k miles and it’s not missed a beat, par replacing a switch that cost 30 quid, and welding a new flexi pipe on the exhaust. I keep toying at do I go and get a shiny new car. But at the end of the day. I really enjoy my current car it gets me from a to B as quickly as a new car. If something breaks on it, no individual parts more than maybe 4 or £500, but I’m also not paying £500 guaranteed each month for a new car that has the warranty that means I wouldn’t pay for the repair so it just doesn’t make sense to do it.

Ive just extended my warranty and service plan on my 3yr old car. For no other reason than I intended keeping the car a bit longer ( the first one ) and with costs rising it makes sense tying costs down. As for the reg plate, mines spaced incorrectly and has been for about 20yrs without problem. As retired cop i never had an issue with slightly adjusted plates as long as still legible. People only fell foul if they attempted to make letters or numbers read something else. Common sense prevails when its causing no harm.

Definitely bin the old plate and put the new one on straight! The amount of new cars a sit behind with plates that aren't on straight is unreal (I'm a driving instructor so on the road 8-10 hours a day) and I'm very OCD about things like that. If the dealer can't be bothered to make sure the plates are on straight what else couldn't they be bothered to do properly, the PDI maybe? As for the warranty that's a tough one and I can see both points of view. A mate of mine had for many years a 2001 BMW M5 and paid between £2.2-£2.5k per year for a warranty. Was glad he did as after an oil pump failure it required a new engine which took 3 months to be supplied and cost just over £20k! The warranty also covered the supply of a BMW 320d whilst he waited for the new engine to arrive. Given how 'new' Lady P is I personally agree that it isn't worth it.

I'd stick with the normal standard plate. in terms of the warranty, it's £690 a year from Porsche for Boxster or Cayman regardless of model and to me it's a no brainer should anything go wrong. I own a 981 GT4 and always renew the warranty, for me it's peace of mind should anything go wrong. However, as they say, each to their own.

Very brave not taking out the extended warranty. It’s £690 for a years worth. Let’s put it this way, a PDK gearbox for a 718 is around £12k and PORSCHE don’t repair them, it’s a replacement.

Extended warranties are profitable products for the OEM’s. If you can afford the repairs if something goes wrong it is always better to go without! I have had many super and sports cars over the years (currently have a 718 Boxter too) and would never consider a warranty! But..I did a stage 1 ECU tune and now have 435bhp and 560nm and I can tell you it’s worth it. If you haven’t driven one with a tune like this you should. DM if you are keen to try.

Personally adding the exhaust would be as far as I would. It’s such a beautiful car stock, why would you would you go any further. I suppose also you have to be careful about the finance in case any modifications affect the guaranteed value and insurance etc. I drove the wheels off of my 911 992 C2S and sold it a month shy of 3 years. Was a difficult choice but year 4 service, extended warranty and other maintenance items would have been the best part of £5k. I enjoyed it and will get another one when I get bored of my S3, which is a great little car. Loving the content - keep it going and enjoy the bloody car man! Not point saving it for the next owner.
