Exactly, at first I didn't agree with Dave Ramsey about paying off all debt but life is so much easier and simpler when there's no debt other than mortgage. That 1-2% spread/year after counting for interest and inflation is not going to make anyone rich and is just exhausting to think about and manage. If it's a massive amount of money sure but for most people no.

Graham, it was a good episode. Side note, Caleb knows you have money and are a person of simple taste but I think it made him happy to treat you at the airport. Anyone who gives you something probably makes less than you but they didn’t give you something based on its worth, they do it because it gave them joy. Food for thought.

THIS. I would have been happy with a fake jewel engagement ring but I'm glad my dad warned me to accept what my boyfriend offered because it might mean more to HIM to be able to get me an actual diamond that it did not matter so much that I would have been just as happy with a fake sapphire. A gift is a gift.
@JamesDecker7
@JamesDecker7 10 месяцев назад
Alternative take: Rich/Successful people often have the reaction to gifts of “What does this person want in return from me?” It can make some of them VERY uncomfortable with unprompted gifts EXCEPT from “peers” who “probably don’t want something from me”.

You hit it spot on with “be the buyer not the seller” in the dating app. The minute I changed my approach on Hinge, I met my wife. Also, be open to going on a date and understanding that it’s ok to not hit it off with that person and telling them. Felt so refreshing to do that than lie or ghost them and vice versa.

I think i figured Caleb out. All the leveraging of things like his student loan low interest, and the furniture 0%. He is living like a middle income midwestern person. What i mean is basically, the interest he can earn investing that money for the furniture actually makes a difference. For me, it would, its about half a mortgage payment just by doing nothing other than paying off my furtnature on the time table to keep 0% charged. For him, it is just a drop in the bucket, but he doesn't see it that way yet.

Absolutely loved your takeover and audit of Caleb! I wasn't until the last few years that I found myself interested in personal finance videos - often because I found myself feeling defeated like the guests that are reviewed on Caleb's financial audit. I started watching your channel around 2019, I always wanted to understand how to invest, stay up-to-date with market trends etc... but Caleb bridges the gap for viewers like me. I didn't get much help as a teen / young adult and before I can even consider an investment portfolio I need to come up with action plans to tackle my debt (student loans, car payments, family matters etc...) and get over the fear of the not knowing. Caleb has motivated me to create my own game plan to tackle my current situation so that I'm in a better position to consider new opportunities and develop my portfolio when the time comes. To audit Caleb, I think you were the perfect person for the job! You rocked this episode and I think you guys got on really well! :)

Caleb is truly obsessed with making numbers happy, regardless of magnitude. I share this obsession as I also view finance as a numbers game with the ultimate reward for winners. This does make us more prone towards the hustler mentality, always trying to scheme to the next biggest angle of how to win. Graham points this out, which is a valuable lesson for all of us. Sometimes I need to get past the excitement of a new opportunity that might be good, for the perspective of what is instead the best. I still struggle with this FOMO in financial opportunities. Thanks for the reminder Graham!

Graham: “I wouldn’t spread your time out with anything else, other than what is important. Which is this.” Also Graham: “I agree with that…” 😂

I think this content is needed, schools don’t teach this stuff, and most parents don’t have it all together.

Graham, how does one go about figuring out what a comfortable % is to risk for other ventures (franchises, crypto, etc.)

Fantastic video, very clear that Graham is focused on investment and growing income while managing risks, where as Caleb has felt secure with his success and is taking some risky moves thinking he's being very meticulous. Sure, things could work out for Caleb but big risks can also be a bit setback.
