Today I'm going over the comprehensive list of benefits the Chase Sapphire Reserve offers and some of the key differences that distinguish their offering from the AMEX Platinum and Venture X. Additionally, we are taking a look at the reasons the CSR may be a great choice among the competition even compared to the Chase Sapphire Preferred when Ultimate Rewards are used for best value. I was debating the VX next year but didn’t realize it did 3 hard pulls. I might consider this card now and it would be my first Chase card.

A major factor in me selecting and being approved for the CSR and deciding to pass on AMEX is the fact that AMEX is not accepted in many businesses overseas, specifically in Europe but likely in Asia as well. There won't be any problems using the CSR anywhere and everywhere along with my Capital One Venture card. Now that I am aware of how crowded the AMEX airport lounges are and how the CSR lounges are not, even better.

Chase could be as good as Amex, but they lack meaningful multiplier categories e.g. groceries, gas on a consistent basis. The 1.5x on the CSR may be a bit overblown if you're into transfer partners and not portals, which would make their points less competitive on catch-all 1.5x, restaurants 3x. I have the CSR, and find their trifecta less impressive than the more expensive Amex. For international travel on the ground however, the CSR blows every other premium travel card out of the water. At some point I'd like to see the CSR get some kind of Elite Status put onto it, especially since Chase seems to have such a close relationship with Hyatt like Amex does Marriott and Hilton. That, for me, would be the X-factor to push the CSR into a no-brainer to go alongside an Amex Platinum.

Agreed, the World of Hyatt is also a great card and elite status with Hyatt through the CSR would make it that much more lucrative.

I have a question though about the statement where you said that the Chase reward portal may be the best one to book domestic flights because you’re getting 1.5 CPP. If you exclude the extra 3x point on dining and travel and look at what would probably make up the bulk of the charges on a card per month could you technically say that the Capital One Venture X is the best to book through their portal because you’re getting 2 CPP because everything is 2x while on Chase only dining and travel not booked through their portal is 3X and everything else is 1x but then turned to 1.5x when the miles are used on their portal? Like I’m saying that relatively speaking, would it on average even itself out when you factor in all the spending that is going to be on that card per month

Did you compare the discounted price in the Chase portal vs going on Google flights and/or directly to the airline? I heard that Chase inflates their prices just like Capital One and Amex. So Chase could be the better deal vs using Capital One or Amex, but may only be a few dollars cheaper than checking Google flights or booking direct with the airline.

If most of my other purchases are earning 2X on VentureX and only earns 1X on CSR, it seems like I’m getting more value with my VX card versus the 1.5 value on CSR. Does that sound right to you?

The sapphire cards do not get the 25%/50% boost when transferring, they only transfer at 1-1, making them worth about the same as Amex points.

It's not easy to find award flights on ANA.

This is true, especially since for certain transfer partners you have to call to find award availability. This is something I'll cover in a later video and perhaps see if there may be some easier ways to do it

You can get great value transferring to ANA, e.g. I've gotten 5-7x/pts. However, it requires a lot of work - and rework.
