I really enjoy them also and fell into the VZ58 experience accidentally when a local guy was selling one and I had to check it out several years ago. I was hooked! I have a couple and they are definitely NOT an AK but a reliable, accurate and really fun rifle. They are so light comparable and really easy to carry and use. I have never had any type of stoppage. They just keep going. My Marine son snagged my updated one and it is one of his favorite rifles- when he can get it away from his wife! She shoots it really well. It is a very underestimated rifle and most really enjoy them. A really good review my friend!! Very thorough and complete..

@@vorwaerts_nie_zurueck I was reading the comments (back in 2010) about the VZ58, and a gentlemen that I presume was from the Czeck Republic said, the Russians give the AK to the CR, and said, "make it better!" This is a very good weapon that many qualified marksmen call, The Best!" I like it better than the AK47 because you can place a stripper clip in the top. If there was a way to put Tritium around the stripper guides, it would facilitate ease-of-use in the pm hours.

@@vorwaerts_nie_zurueck Pleasure to help. Only the original bipod (AFAIK) had non-telescoping, longish legs. When folded, they’d interfere with your fore-grip… Not sure if there’s a modern offering for the bayonet rail. :-/ (If you find one, let me know; as a Czech shooter, I’m practically breaking the law by not yet having a sa. vz. 58 and I’m contemplating the very same model you’ve got… ;-))

I want a short one. I have a normal one with the bakelite "beaver barf" furniture and a sidefolding bayonet. I have the bipod that attaches to the bayonet lug. It's a fun rifle.

To be fair, I don't have a lot of comparisons when it comes to 7.62x39 AKs. What I can say is that CSA makes great barrels and their overall build quality is better than your average AK. I had no problems hitting targets out 300m with either

Vz58 design is taking little bit of ak and sks features
@rmichaelzachary8574
@rmichaelzachary8574 8 месяцев назад
It's not an AK - it's an SKS with a two piece stock and exposed receiver. So if you build a chassis for an SKS and have it take, say, Duramags you get the same EARLIER generation type of service carbine. And everybody else has standardized parts, mags, logistics, etc. Kinda like buying a pistol with proprietary magazines that everyone sees as second standard.
@johnscreekmark
@johnscreekmark 8 месяцев назад
And it happens to be miles ahead of the AK47. Only reason AK fanboys go nuts is because they haven’t upgraded to a VZ58.
@rmichaelzachary8574
@rmichaelzachary8574 8 месяцев назад
@@johnscreekmark Miles ahead of an AK by being a generation behind an AK and only in use by Slovakia. Even Vietnam, the only nation to really use the VZ58 in combat UPGRADED to the AK. So miles ahead of the AK where? To the exit of some American podunk trailerpark. Aside from the horror of logistics, these were substitute standard weapons because they weren't as good. Think Gew 88 when every else has or wants Gew 98s. There really isn't anything the VZ 58 offers anyone over an AKM, and that's why the Czechs practically gave them away to the NVA and VC who appreciated them very much BECAUSE THEIR MANUAL OF ARMS WAS SO SIMILAR TO AN SKS. I'm not an AK fan boy; although, it's hard to see any substantive successful competitor to the AK in the post war era. The VZ58 will go down as a small arms footnote, the infantry arm issued when you were too poor to afford an AK or stuck with a stupid procurement by a bureaucrat in a planned economy. Was it a reliable weapon? Somewhat. But when the Israelis tested small arms in the mid 1970s to decide what they were going to replace the FAL with they found it was much more prone to stoppages than the AK platform, and ultimately they pursued an AK based infantry weapon - the Galil ARM. While the IDF is not the final word in small arms, it does carry a lot more weight than the russophobic braying of someone who has no idea what he's talking about as he tries to put an inferior, earlier generation weapon on a pedestal.

@rmichaelzachary8574
@rmichaelzachary8574 8 месяцев назад
@@johnscreekmark Go fix your trailer before it rolls away. Is that you grunting or your ma pushing a stone? ROFLMAO! And I think most people can handle the $399 Century Arms special you call a "true VZ58." Vietnam has crates of the real things just rusting away in storage, really used in combat, being used to DEFEAT THE "SUPERIOR AMERICAN ARMED FORCES." Because they've upgraded to real weapons - AKs - and see a Czech bureaucrat's modernized SKS as something for poorer nations and American parts kit gun trailer park losers who will buy their scrap at a premium. If the Czech guns are the "real thing," then why did the Czechs get rid of the VZ58 over a decade ago as being "obsolete," "inferior," "not capable of meeting the needs of a modern army." When the Czechs badmouth their small arms, pretty clear that American trailer park hate has nothing to say. So go take it up with the Czech army and shut your mouth. Convince them your Century Arms VZ58 is superior.

@@rmichaelzachary8574a whole essay just to say “it’s not as popular as the ak so that makes it not as good!”. Sorry bro, it’s better than the ak in damn near every metric aside from an abundance of magazines/parts which the ak only wins at due to popularity. The ak is also cheaper to manufacture hence its popularity. Have owned and extensively shot both. The vz58 is objectively better than the ak

Not only is it handier and with more features than an AK, but the recoil impulse is softer and without the pronounced muzzle rise resulting from the greater moving mass of a long stroke piston design
