I went through the worst sugar withdrawal…. You gotta get past it! It does pass. I was exhausted, headache, and weak for a week. Couldn’t even lift my arms.

My 1st week of ‘No Carbs…’ was hell. I actually argued with MYSELF on the way home~yelling at MYSELF like a child~ to NOT buy ice cream to eat before going to bed.OMG! My ‘adult’ self won the argument, but how crazy is that?! Sugar addiction is NO JOKE! This ‘withdrawal’ is seriously worse than quitting smoking~ believe me~ I know!!! So far, so good….i keep praying, because I need all the help I can get. Btw, I was bawling tears when I walked into the house, but I knew that I was doing the right thing. I can at least laugh about it now 🤭

When I started keto 5 years ago, I felt really bad from detoxification of all the bad things in my body. I’m glad I knew what I could expect, because when it happened, I understood what was going on, and it would pass, which it did. I have kept the 45 pounds off now. My ketoversary is on July 29, which will be 6 years, I am 66 years old and weigh 130 pounds @5’5”. 😊 Thanks for all you do. I watch all your videos and I always learn something from them. ❤😊👍

I have done a calorie restriction with keto staying under 10 carbs a day and 8 months later I went from 6ft 355lbs to 214lbs with a GW of 165lbs

They put sugar in everything and everyone pushes it on you it's so hard to get away from it because everyone around you is addicted too....but I'm working really hard to stay away from it....great video👍

I gained 20 pounds after hip surgery and was having trouble losing weight. I knew I had to lose it but I continued to eat poorly. My legs and ankles were swollen 9 months after surgery and it wasn't because of it. I recently had labs drawn for a doctor appointment and my blood sugar was very high. I decided at that moment that it was time to cut sugar from my diet. It has been difficult but once I started and committed to it, I've been able to stick to it. The swelling in my legs and ankles have gone down and I'm feeling much better. Cutting out sugar is the key. No more sugar for me!!

Good for you ..way to go. Hard work really does pay off😊 same for me I had pain, swelling, and inflammation in my knees, legs, and ankles... cutting out sugar and all the toxic foods I was eating has really helped me. Plus I fast too.👍💫

I’m struggling so hard right now. I’ve lost 40 pounds in the past year but, have gained five back recently. I’m beating myself up over it and trying to get back on track. I really don’t want to lose all the progress I’ve made it’s just really difficult right now and I’m trying to find a way to get over this slump I’m in. Maybe once winter is over and the sun comes back out I’ll feel better about things. Who knows

Same!!!!!! I lost it all last year, looked amazing for a couple of months then spent 6 months completely self-sabotaging and gaining nearly all of it back. So. If you’ve managed to only gain 5 pounds back over winter and Christmas WELL DONE !!!!!!!!! Don’t beat yourself up, you can do it again and I’m pretty sure, as soon as your body clocks the lengthening days, that it’ll be easier to climb back on the wagon and start again. You’re bound to have fluctuations, and just remember how amazingly you’ve done! I’ve started again too, except I’ve got 21 to get rid of (again!). Wish me luck….

I’m going through early menopause, and things have changed drastically. Keto is great as well as fasting, I’ve done both not easy but significantly easier than now ( menopause).. I’d say it’s 5x harder for menopausal women. Im not saying to stop doing it, I just want to emphasize how much harder it’s during this stage for us women

It's the bacteria in your gut that is craving the sugar. In my experience, cutting out sweets altogether is best, and the cravings end after about two weeks.

Oh good to know thanks. I made the mistake of quitting both Caffeine and Sugar at the same time. Feels like I have a mild flu but depression and anxiety has gotten so much better. Also feel more “with-it” mentally.

Stopped drinking 8 months ago and lost weight now I need to break my sugar addiction. It’s by far the hardest bc it’s in everything and it’s everywhere and I love it. I had a candy drawer in my room growing up 😂

Hey Myra! I've only been watching your videos for about 2 weeks, but it's really helped me get more prepared for cutting sugar than I think I've ever been. So thank you! I have t1 diabetes, have done since I was 21 months old (I'm now 43) and I've always, always had a sweet tooth. I was always relatively healthy though - there's few that understand diet better than a diabetic! However, I was in an abusive relationship, which triggered traumas from childhood, and after 4 months of splitting with my ex, CPTSD kicked in. There's nothing quite like complex trauma to completely change everything, especially the carbon and sugar cravings! In the last 5 years, I have gained 4 stone in weight. And quite honestly, I feel like crap - physically and emotionally. I've dealt with many of my traumas over the last year, and I am feeling stronger now, but I'm so nervous to stop sugar. I get the worst withdrawals imaginable..I don't deal with them well. But the biggest thing, is my body doesn't like change and especially my diabetes doesn't like it. So I tend to have a lot of hypos when I stop sugar. Now I have looked into it, and I'm fully prepared to cut my insulin back etc. But is there anything you can suggest that may help with it? Cutting sugar is hard enough without being forced to have it due to a hypo. And will a hypo or multiple of them mean it will just take me longer to properly detox. I know you're probably not a medical professional, but I really respect your opinion, as I find your content really makes sense to me. I'm all set to prep all my food on Tuesday when I get my food shopping, so any info you can give me would be most appreciated. Many thanks, and much love in advance 💜

A hack I have is chewing on sugar free chewing gum when I get cravings. Been doing it for over 5 years now. It works!

Just wanted to let you know something I recently learned is... Any food that contains natural flavors, and a lot of sugar free stuff (diet sodas) really has sugar in it... it's usually a sugar substitute which could be even worse. I was drinking a lot of sparkling water 🌊 which has natural flavors, and since discovery this I've stopped drinking it so much, but I have 3 eight packs of it and don't want to waste it.🤦 I'm not saying to stop chewing gum ..just wanted to share the information. I had a super rough day Friday and yesterday, Saturday. I ate m&ms, a cupcake, Dr. Pepper and burger and fries... my first time eating like this since Jan 01. Today Sunday, im going to fast until a super bowl party tonight. Point is, it was so rough for me i resorted to sugar for comfort ☹️

Short story here 👇👇 First of all, i enjoy watching your videos and you have encouraged me so so much because I am in the same position where if i eat excess carbs, i crave SUGAR. Anyways, my church did a corporate 21 day fast and I decided to adopt the mediterranean diet minus the cheese and bread. WHEN I TELL YOU! I immediately lost 4 pounds the first two weeks, i looked slimmer because I was not bloated from the processed foods AND my mood IMPROVED. I was much more energetic, less brain fog, cravings for sugar diminished, and my mood was bubbly. I realized that unhealthy carbs are not my friend and choosing complex carbs and healthy fats complimented my body and mind. Anyways, thank you for listening to my ted talk 😅

I recently came across your channel. Very impressive and able to educate. I am a diabetic since 2014. I struggle with abnormal A1C. I need to loose a least 30lbs. Sedentary activity level. I do crave sugars and breads. I only drink little water, tea & coffee with monk fruit. I know what to do, but no motivation. What suggestion and help can you offer???

My mistake when quitting carbs was losing my desire to eat. It you don't eat protein and vegetables you will destroy your body by losing all your muscle. So you must make yourself eat and withdrawal can be extremely bad if you suffer from lack of motivation or depression. But the bottom line is carbs are destroying most peoples health.

I have so much to talk to you about my life is complicated . Can’t eat with meat and milk items. I lost 105 pounds in 1974. Put on 60 pounds I started to be very careful I lost so far I lost 30 pounds I’m feeling good but a lot to go. I’m stuck in a wheelchair because I fell off my bed 2 yrs ago. So far they can’t find out what’s wrong with me. I’m trying to start walking with my walker. Hope it helps. I live in Israel I’m happy I’m divorced but friendly with my x i Have 3 children and 15 yummy grandchildren. Myra i wish I could come to your class if you had one and I could get there. no such thing as a "sweet tooth"...it's an addition with the brain. Thankfully I was diabetic at a young age, and also came from mediterranean (italian and Sicilian) family, so we were super diverse in our pallet, leafy green tricolor salad with olives and nuts, EVOO, home grown tomatoes, etc..... we didn't do refined sugars in that way, BUT the pastas and homemade breads were hard. As far as advising some one to cut cold turkey - or not, you really need to pay attention, know people, and not assume every one is like you. The other reason people get tired cutting sugar is because we all have parasites...and they get pissed when you stop feeding them ;) Just FYI to take it to a deeper level of truth. Sweeteners do the same, so for those hard core cutting things (like I had to do with nuts which due to high oxalates, I create kidney stones fast and they are more hellish than cutting sugar and you will do whatever you have to do...), just squeeze a lemon, squeeze an orange, or just suck it up and change the mindset. eat and drink what you have to and move it along :) When we crave sugar, the Lord made us like that to eat FRUIT! Ayyy. We are so spoiled, ungrateful and impatient...we 'have to have it'...goodness, approach it from the lens of holiness and healthiness, also from a place of seeking help for trauma vs just "losing weight"....wellness is bigger and deeper, but thank you for what you do. I'd take pizza and lasagna off the list. If you don't do it right, just not worth doing it wrong ;) I did like some of the recipes, though, so thanks! I try to just do what's whole, doesn't need a label, etc.

Hey Myra I found you while post op VSG and that failed, in terms of functioning and NOT weight related…bypass 11 months after VSG. You have introduced me to sooooo many wonderful variations ( just made lasagna with cauliflower). In the bariatric community, that minus the cauliflower is called a Ricotta bake and is introduced in I think the soft food stage, either way it’s delicious. I do have a question: When you talk about sugar and eliminating ( or replacing with substitutes) does this mean foods that have sugar naturally and no added sugars, fruit is what comes to mind. Swerve brand is pricey but imo tastes identical to sugar. My fav is the brown sugar.

So no more than 100 grams of net carbs per day, but how about fat? What is the max amount of fat grams you should have on this diet?

I don't think that you ever get over it. I still crave fruit, they were my weakness. I used to eat a grocery bag full of grapes after a Rugby match to get my energy back. Now I can't eat fruit. I have insulin resistance. I do use Allulose to make apple pies or blueberry pies and my blood sugar doesn't spike. I am working on sugar free ice cream real ice cream from a freezer right now.

I’m struggling w/eating too many keto treats! I still just want to overeat them so I’ve been out of ketosis since the first of the yr! What would u suggest I do to not overeat them? I’ve always had an unhealthy sweet tooth & I’m just not sure of when or what to eat cause even if I’m full, if I’m not satisfied I binge eat treats, even homemade Keto treats! Ugh!!! In moderation. They can give you TERRIBLE crams, gas, bloating, and diarrhea. I ate a bunch of Russell Stover sugar free candy, which I will NEVER do again.

I learned sugar free products are not really sugar free they are made with sugar substitutes. Look at the ingredients in your foods you will see for yourself. Natural flavors is just another way to say sugar. I learned this from Bobby Parrish, Flav City here on RU-vid. If you want to check out his channel. He does videos on food that is bad for health and gives suggestions on what to replace them with. I watch him all the time.

be careful like the “sugar free” Reese cups and hersheys have like 26 carbs in them! I thought when something said sugar free it meant carb free and no it doesn’t 😂 oh and “no added sugar” is another one.
