I've said it before but I'm gonna say it again, Mike is the BEST thing to happen to RU-vid. Nobody explains it the way he does and just tells it like it is. I am far from and experienced person in the gym, but the phrase Don't lift Build, has helped me to connect with the muscle better than any other video I have watched.

What I like most here is that you are demonstrating what people normally do and step-by-step breaking it down and rather than just saying “ when people do chess supported Rows on a bench……” many new lifters can’t visualize how a movement targets specific muscles they need to see someone’s body doing it. Great video.

Mike, I really believe where the Push day thing blew up is because the bodybuilding world got obsessed with the idea of training bodyparts more frequently so PPL makes that feasible within a week time frame. Most run the 3 on 1 off and repeat. In contrast, focusing on a bodypart a day like a bro split as they say, is typically 1x a week and it is almost seen now as a less than ideal way to train. Which could be total nonsense. But I really think that is what drove alot of this.
@cmsx9373
@cmsx9373 2 года назад
Agree. Bro split is not for average joe in the gym, it is for pros, as they are anabolic all the time from different sources, not just from training.

Agree. I discovered these chest-supported dumbell rows suck in my first few months of working out. I much prefer bent-over bar rows or bent-over dumbell rows. I always do at least 1 bent-over back excercise in each session. 2 pull downs (neutral + pronated grip or close grip under + pronated wide grip), 1 seated row and 1 bent-over row.

When I started training (46 years ago) 20 sets for a muscle group was the norm. They all did it as promoted by muscle builder. Later I bought all the courses from Vince Gironda. Nautilus promoted Their machines in Iron Man, so that had to be the secret. Casey viator, Mike mentzer etc. did it after all. The gym owner bought a line nautilus machines. How high were our expectations! HIT workout had to be ‘ít’. ÏT’did not exist LoL. 5x5 (Reg Park) 10x10 (Bulgaria) Rippetoe etc. name it and I did it. I promised a trainer 5000 euros (Dutch guldens at the time) if he could guarantee me an inch on my arm with sets, reps and any exercise of his choice. Natural. No steroids. I like to put things to the test. I was much younger at the time, off course. Guys, there are no exercises that can change the shape of your muscles or numbers for that matter. What is not there can not grow. It is as simple as that. I deadlifted 600 pounds, did shrugs etc for my traps, but never had that "look" Talent needs little stimulation and can grow on just looking at a weight. Diet is another story. So, here we are. Mike's choice in life as a trainer is how to use a machine. It is his concept and mission to educate bodybuilders by lack of a better word. Nothing wrong with that. Learn, and if you prefer machines to free weights, fine. Educate yourself on free weights, machines, bands or whatever is on the market these days, but forget about promises that can never be kept by the ones who ‘knows’.

I think he’s missing the reason why most use a chest supported row, or the REAL reason why one would do it. It’s to take the limiting lower back out of the equation since we’re already doing deadlifts, squats, etc. It has nothing to do with wanting “a better stretch.” And we’re not all powerful bodybuilders looking to isolate with every lift. For advanced bodybuilders, I completely agree with him but for the average guy/gal looking to build some strength without injuring themselves, I’d say he’s way off base. Just my two cents

The silly advice youtubers eventually end up giving when theyve ran out of normal shit to say. I dont understand why you are showing a dumb way of doing the movement, in order to shownthatbits dumb. The problems you spoke of are easily fixed by sitting down on the bench or having your knee on the seat. Using a bench is far superior to bending over as it takes the stress off of your lower back and allows more weight to be used.
@ISWIMWITHFISH
@ISWIMWITHFISH 2 года назад
If that’s what you got from this video, you need to re evaluate your workouts. He says this stuff because contrary to popular belief, he’s probably in gym more than you. Which means he.. contrary to popular belief, sees more than you. If people continue to do it, and nobody tell them.. people don’t get it and are still not maximizing their lifts efficiently. There’s no need for new style equipment and sometimes.. the old ones have always worked.

You had the most genetically gifted person and still managed to fuck it up. You know why? Because you do not use measurement in your traning principle. If you stop pumping up the muscle all the time and focus on writing down what you have done in a previous session with standardized form and try to beat it the next time.
