Dracula saving Isaac is such a great moment for displaying that there's still a spark of goodness in him. "Would you die for me?" "Absolutely." "Cool. Don't." I have NEVER seen a Big Bad send his lieutenant away just because he knows the end is near and he wants them to live.
That's what great about Drac he litterally isn't a villain definetly an anti villain but not a full on villain he is justified having hatred for humans and when his son confronts him and forces him to see how much he fucked up he gives in and just accepts his death, and when he is latter revived he harbors no ill will towards anyone, admittedly he has lisa back bit he doesn't go after the main trio or anything, he'll he let's them take over his home so he can just be a nomad.
I like him cus he’s a badass, everyone has their cool solo/duo/trio fights, and then their is Isaac who beats the unliving shit out of godbrand. I like godbrand, but seeing Isaac beat up a Viking vampire like an alcoholic farther with a belt is fucking comical. I like his other fights when he’s fighting in sync with is demon army, but nothing can surmount to a 1v1 with a vampire and doing so well that it can be compared to child abuse... and murder
What I love is that HE would be the one to face carmila. He became light inversion of her. While she gave in to the hatred and bitterness despite all she had, Isaac instead went on a journey to grow past the hatred and hurt he endured and decided to grow to be better and show people there was a better
Their final fight even highlights it by showering her dress with blood, while Isaac had his clean drip ocean blue, remaining unscathed. He fights with an army, she fights alone and cornered. She's a tired, old vampire, he's a human with a big dream ahead of him. He fights with a dagger while she fights with a sword. The sword even chips a little throughout their fight.
I love how Isaac, one of the main stays for a good chunk of the series, never actually meets the main Trio. It just makes the world feel so much bigger. You have entire storylines going on in the background that most of the time don't intersect with the main story.
Isaacs demon converted a group of church goers where the main character interacted with, and ultimately had to kill before they resurrect Dracula. Their The stories did intersect.
I don't. The entire plot line of Isaac and Hector should have been removed. It would have great improve the pacing. Besides, that side story doesn't even follow a reasonable And-But-Therefore template.
To be fair, any of the terrible ones he met usually ended up dying by his hand, or becoming one of his minions in the end. I do like the fact that he was able to recognize the difference between a good and a bad person, and make the distinction that, hey, I'm going to let you live because you have more than just face value to give, you actually have a purpose. And yeah, you don't get much better out of a character than having them be almost evil because of their background, and then learning from that and finding peace with themselves to overcome all of that diversity, that is extremely good writing, and this character did that in spades.
The best part is that he didn't become completely good nor healed at the end. He still has a long journey to go (which I'm sad that we don't get to see it) and more to learn. Best part? He WANTS to go on that long journey and learn more. He changed from a man that wanted to erase humanity from this earth, including him too, to a man that learned to appreciate the beauty of life. The little acts of kindness and to be away from someone who had much Influence in his life (Dracula), gave him a new perspective of the world that made him WANT to live. Beautiful character.
@ryanabreu7998 I have been a fuel fan since the days of seagull. I am there when they win and I'm there when they lose but still ill cheer for the Winston in blue.
What I love about his growth is that it's not just one moment then he is a changed MSN but little moment that brings him forward and back like right when he left the ship.
Yeah I love how it’s not instant, he had to be tested again and again in order for that new philosophy to settle in. It’s very realistic and refreshing to see that presented in media. Not even just changing your way of life but the way you go about it is one of the most difficult things that we as people have to do sometimes
One of my favorite moments in the show is when the Captain and Issac are talk and the captain is adding lime juice to his drink. When near the end of the show, Issac is talk to Hector and Isaac is making the same drink, representing a simple human pleasure of enjoying something flavorful.
His fight against Carmilla is fantastic. I remember he weakens her through his monsters and uses them as shields as it's blatant that he could never tank any attacks from her.
I just started watching castlevania, and I love Isaac, the conversation between him and the pirate old man is really great, and the moment where he asks for water is like a way of him accepting that not all humans are bad
Isaac shows us two things: Done right black representation, and well written characters (both him and Dracula’s relationship nails it) Edit: I just noticed that some people pointed out that Isaac was a ginger in the game. I understand if the change is a bit odd to the older fans, I just am in awe that while yes Isaac was changed from a ginger to a black man, the writers even used that change to make the writing great (like how racism because he’s black played a part in his path with Dracula)
People will be complaining about race swaps before a piece of media is even released. Nobody cared about Isaac being race swapped because he wasn't famous enough before the show for people to get mad about 🤷♀️
I think one more example of good written race swapped characters is April o neil in Rise of TMNT (For me, she is kinda the best version of April in all TMNT)
One of the cool things about Isaac is we see glimpse of his humanity all throughout the show so it’s really not a huge surprise when he decides to not destroy humanity lol he was looking for reasons not to be cruel and eventually he found enough
Yes, he displays humanity for the torn apart night creature who tries to fly back "home". So when he starts to speak with the fly eyed one, it is not a shock. Not a single other main characters in the series ever has a thought about what these creatures feel or experience, or whether there could be a better existence for them. They're just cannon fodder or things to cause horror and pain to others. I liked how the Captain had such an accepting attitudes of the "beasties". As long as they didn't eat his crew...live and let live!
Isaac was the best character in the show. And he a GOAT. He raised his own army. Mans faught Carmilla and the only way she knew she was getting out was by dying. That meant he was on par with vampires in terms of speed and strength, of course he wouldn't of been able to 1v1 her and he knew that. Did I mention he's one hell of a tactitian? He forgave Hector for his betrayal.
It is fitting how someone like Dracula, who has gone through similar torment decided to treat him like a person, showing how both characters still have humanity even if both currently want to see humanity wiped out due to it’s evils
Isaac is def one of my most favorite characters in fiction. From dialogue, to design, to character growth, to epic fight scenes, to actual morals I think about on a daily basis, he’s an amazing, S-tier character and probably the most ride or die I’ve seen.
Bro i’m glad somebody brought up my boy Isaac. Such a great character!! Don’t even get me started on that last fight between him and the vampire lady(forgot her name) but let me tell you I was on the edge of my seat anytime this man popped up on the screen😫🙏🙏
Isaac became my favorite character of the show and even the main character in my opinion. And it happened so slowly, I didn’t even notice until the show was over. He’s so GOOD
I love his loyalty towards Dracula- and how betrayed he felt, that Dracula would want to save him, instead of letting Isaac fight and die by his side And there's this amazing moment, where he's talking about God and humanity, and how he's always felt like the hammer- like the tool that God is using, but now wants to be the hand using the tool, instead There are some great scenes, where he's telling people that he just wants to peacefully walk through their town and they don't believe him, or he talks with someone about hitching a ride on his boat And how he finds one undead beast that can talk and remember things, so they both have these in depth complex conversations with each other Oh, also, The Waffle House has found its new host
Bro the speech Isaac gave about Dracula deserving his sleep at last and all of that... it hit different, he really changed. I love Isaac as a character
Isaac is definitely one of the best characters in the show. Its really tough to pick a favorite, but Isaac probably is tied for either him or Alucard for me.
Literally just finished rewatching Castlevania. Isaac is probably my favorite character in the entire show, from his design, to his voice, to his awesome arc, I absolutely love him.
A story like Isaac's is one that's definitely needed in this age of victim mentality. Buck up, learn, and try to be the change you wish to see in the world. In the words of old man Kratos "Be Better".
I LOVED every conversation Issac had with people on his way back. I loved the tradesman, the captain and his fellow death forger. I loved his character so so much!!❤
Also the scene where the sailor talks to him is very symbolic. When he puts lime juice in the water for Issac to drink. It represents him imparting his wisdom on him for him to change.
Isaac was my favorite character. I loved his loyalty, and his desire for love and peace. He was open minded, very intelligence and was never cruel to anyone who showed him kindness. He always tried to solve conflicts with words before violence.
I am so happy that someone has finally talked about Isaac as a character. I have been waiting for people to talk about the show even and so many people sleep on it.
Isaac straight up has the most authority and experience out of all the characters, he’s been amongst all he’s been on any side of the coin you come from, he understands.
Good take! Isaac was the best, and I loved his arc in the later seasons. I loved how deliberate his scenes were, especially when they were just him talking with other characters.
I absolutely loved the philosophical conversation between the captain and Isaac. “You’d end human cruelty yes but human kindness too. No more gifts no more jokes.” Even though this didn’t really sway Isaac into change yet it was one of the things that got to him eventually as he was starting to see some kindness from people like the captain and the shop guy that gave him that gift.
So much underrated character development in this man. I loved Isaac I still remember his bone chilling philosophical scenes and his absolutely brutal fights he honestly stole the show from the main cast. Generally any character that can do that is well written and Isaac is no exception. Fantastic top tier character.
Isaac was hands down easily one of the best characters in the show. Watching his character arc as in many ways he rediscovered his own humanity during his journey.
Preach it, because Isaac actually admitted he was wrong even though he was getting results and eventually took out a real threat to the world and decided to be better
I love the scene where he explains to the talking monster why he is rebuilding the city. It really shows how he has changed, and how he wants a future not only for him, but also for humankind
Man I loved that show it had some many great and complex characters heroes and antagonists and Isaac is up there with how he handles himself his goals and his backstory. Truly great written character
Isaac was such a masterfully written character, and his VA's performance only sold that more. He quickly became my favorite in the series and had the best character development I've seen since Zuko. Also, RIP to the wise old boat captain's VA, Lance Reddick, another incredible human being.
I like that Issac doesn't abandon his hatred and disgust for humanity, he instead learns to live with it and embrace the positive aspects of life without needing to interact with the negative aspects of humans.
Issac's story in season 3 was probably the best of all of them because it was so story-heavy and focused on showing us how Issac became so jaded to humanity and how he ultimately see's the other side of the coin.
Issac was an absolutely brilliantly written character. Going from a man who, for understandable reasons, wanted to see Humans gone, to a true king who wishes to make the world around him better for everyone in it. In his own words, he grew up.
Isaac's character made the most sense to me and was someone I personally saw myself as. I loved his development and all the Easter eggs from the games it brought, his journey was one of encountering and defeating himself in multiple different ways and I feel like it really solidified his role in all of it. He originally wanted to revive Dracula, but discovered he already had the power to change mankind for the better. Essentially he was an apex preditor who became self aware and realized he could educate the common people instead of hating them for fearing what they don't understand.
Bro you are my favorite RU-vid creator. I’ve seen every video. Every word of this clip resonated with me. Castlevania is in my top 10 favorite anime and Isaac added such complexity to it. Philosophical dark anime is the best genre of any form of entertainment in my opinion.
Isaac showing his demon things how to be kind blew my mind bro was goated, Dracula too. I like the way they portrayed him, it was nice to see him act a little different than what were used to
That ship captain gave him the best advice for him and anyone really. If Dracula meets Isaac again I hope he also meet the old ship captain that gave he wise advice.
