Sorry about that! The Proraso aftershave has menthol, correct? A nice cooling effect. As far as what to look for in an aftershave, it depends on the person. If you get irritation from alcohol rich aftershaves you'll want to stay away (obviously) and only use alcohol free splashes or balms. Personally, I enjoy strong scents that are musky, deep, and mostly complex. Alcohol doesn't affect me negatively so that broadens the range I can choose from. I enjoy balms after a "rough shave" so I avoid the intense alcohol burn. Other times, I have a very smooth shave and enjoy a little tingle of the aftershave. It's all subjective and personal, as scents and base preference is. Anyway, I hope I've been helpful enough and please don't hesitate to ask me any questions.

Thomas the Shaver that was more like what I was looking for thank you. I do like the tingle and burn, but I would also like a nice balm. You you keep telling us there are so many good artisan soaps, aftershaves and balms our on the market. I am excited and truly looking forward to shaving. Except that most after shaves are intended to be a sanitizer and will break down the balm and dry the face if put on after balm. Aftershave first then balm.
