Have to agree with you about the enjoyment of driving with the amount of traffic and poor state of the roads, also I find that the standard of driving in general is getting worse, some people have just got no idea and are in a world of their own! 😱 . . I could go on. . anyway very interesting video Sam, had no idea that watching motorway traffic with no sound could be so therapeutic 🧘 😎
The cost of cars is ridiculous now and the ICE options are dwindling by the month. I'm a moderate enthusiast (nerd) on a reasonable income and I take a lease out every 3yrs - current car is a 2021 BMW 118i. it's going to cost me an extra £110 a month for an equivalent Focus and I have shopped around. I've had to switch to an auto as Ford has discontinued the manual edition of the 1.0 155 and I would agree with you that the enjoyment of driving is ebbing away. I have no desire to have a 'milk float' when they're so expensive and the range is appalling. I often draw a comparison between smartphones and electric cars. With a smartphone we sacrificed a week-long battery life and a lower price in exchange for a lot more useful features, whilst still having the comfort of being able to charge up in most places. With an electric car, I don't see that the ends justify the means for someone like me. They're more expensive, they lack the charm and character of an ICE version and the range/charging anxieties are too much. You can't be anywhere near as spontaneous in an EV as you can in an ICE car. I couldn't have done my Scotland trip in an EV.
Hi ; Sam I’m afraid the powers that be want us off the roads . This kicked off in 2020, why are so many people still working from home still , the roads are not being repaired, the high cost of insurance, price of cars . It’s not a coincidence 😔
They need to improve public transport first & make it more affordable first plus if you work shifts not close to home you have a have some sort of transport. Have you seen the price of train tickets?
@@jamesbrowne7601 I don’t think you understand what I’m saying, it’s not about public transport it’s about control of the public. They started the process in March 2020 and it’s still going on
@@weirdobagins8948 amazing how much control the TV and media have , up until the latter half of 2020 i thought the same as most people. Sad times indeed 😞
I agree with you on the points of this clip the roads are terrible & there’s all these new high tech speed cameras plus other motorist can send clips of your driving to the police & have you prosecuted .The costs of new cars is to high plus interest rates on used cars are 12-14% when all this tech fully comes in with speed cameras & limiters on new cars is it going to be worth spending £40-50k on a Golf GTI- R or any performance car ?
Sam I've recently found an example of a vw dealer in crew advertising a 2024 golf gti with 5000 on it with a few desirable options on they think it's acceptable advertise it for nearly 60k,when I first saw it I questioned the price, thinking it was a mistake ,the reply I received was its got nearly 6k worth of options, what a joke,I couldn't believe it Sam!
The more automated systems there are on a car, the less awareness and control a driver has to have. With things like lane keep assist, collision detection systems, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, automatic gearboxes, it will all add up to the driver doing less and less, is this a good or bad thing?. And as we all know, cars have also been getting bigger and changing shape over the years to meet increasing safety standards. I see no real problem with this apart from cars potentially having poor visibility from the inside because not only do manufacturers have to keep up with safety standards, they also have to make their cars look good, so the design often impedes on visibility from the inside as well. Things like reversing cameras, parking sensors, blind spot monitoring (where a little light appears when someone is in your blindspot), these to me are not automated systems and are one of the few technological advancements of cars that have seemingly no downside. So if the safety rating of a car improves with more automated systems, meaning the driver doesn’t have to have as much control than if they weren’t there, then to me, where that leads, is less driver control = better and the governments would rather the drivers have as little control and responsibility as possible. Meaning, they would rather we all rode around in automated taxis. I understand for instance, crash detection/collision avoidance being super helpful and not really encroaching on driver control too much, but the general sentiment is there I think. It’s very important that with all this advancement, human free will isn’t wiped out.
The £40k dvla 'luxury car' tax theft is a proper b***h.......even if you buy a used car for well under £40k (when the new rrp with options was just over £40k), you have to keep paying another £400 extra a year for however many years of the five years are left! Then, when the five years are up, and you want to replace your car, you start all-over again...Many options (like the vw dcc system) should be standard on high models. Dealers are complicit in this delusion/stupidity/deceit.
