In the scenes where Luke escapes from the Wampa's lair and where Obi-Wan first tells Luke to find Yoda the weather was so cold out that the cast and crew had to shoot 15 feet from the hotel they were using during filming. This year members of the 501st legion revisited the hill Mark Hamill rolled down as well as the plain where the AT-AT attack was filmed and left plaques at both sites to forever remember the Empire Strikes Back.

Omg, what a reaction!!! I love you guys! Yes! The famous line. I was first in line at the theater with a buddy (and that line LITERALLY stretched around the block and down the street; you couldn't see the end of it), we waited 3 hours! And then, after some of the most amazing scenes, one after another, to the point you almost couldn't breathe trying to keep up, Vader said it. "I am your father." The collective intake gasp throughout the theater nearly created vacuum, and basically the entire place, jammed to standing room only, was collectively filled with the sound of everyone's head exploding! We were shocked, stunned and devastated! And then that never to be sufficiently bedamned cliffhanger ending with Han frozen and stolen by a bounty hunter, Leia and Luke with the rebel fleet fleeing in space, and Lando and Chewie off to find Han...FOR 3 YEARS!!! There have been other movie sequels in a series that rivaled the first movie for excellence, but there has never been, before, or since anything that was remotely like The Empire Strikes Back on opening day! And sharing this reaction with you gave me back the magic of that day! Thank you! You guys are why I watch movie reactions! Promise me you'll watch the rest of the Star Wars movies, please! Every single last one! And I will be right there with you all the way!

Trivia tidbit: Mark Hammil (Luke) was in a car crash in real life and messed up his face, so that’s why they added the ice creature scene to help explain his facial scars while filming. Also,my favorite thing about your reactions is your totally in sync with each other oohs and aahs! Makes me smile every time! 😂

Just wanted to let you know I love watching you guys and your reactions fron your bright-eyed optimism, no bad language in your comments( which is refreshing) and and an open-mindedness to try new films for the first time. I was 11 years old when I saw The Empire Strikes Back for the first time in the theaters, and yes we had the same feeling. Totally Blown Away! New characters , old enemies and dark secrets. The kicker was we had to wait three years for the next film to hit theaters to get the questions answered. Imagine having to wait 3 years between movies to find out resolutions to all your questions at the end of these first two movies. Back then, it made for many conversations and speculations. They were also movies you could watch multiple times and catch something new with each viewing.

A theory that I recently heard was that the hostility from the fighters as the Falcon is on approach to the cloud city was Lando's attempt to ward Han off.

They were put that way for a reason. Jumping ahead ruins it for you and us. 4. IRL Ford and Fisher were having an affair. She was only 19 and he was much older and married. She put it in her biography before she died. She got an ok from him to put it in there. 5. Hans', "I know" was ad lib and required a new script to be written in the next movie. 6. You will learn more about the emperor and Darth Vader in episodes I, II and III. 7. The next one wraps everything up and IMVHO is the best of the original VI Lucas episodes.

You gotta understand Lando's position. He had a whole city that would have fallen under Imperial occupation if he didn't cooperate. And originally, they told him all they needed to do was question Solo about some other guy he didn't even know. And Solo was, last he knew, some drug smuggler and petty criminal he had a few friendly encounters with.

Of all the Star Wars theatrical films, this is the most perfect.❤

I was 13 Years old in 1977 when I Saw Star Wars and 16 Years old when I Saw The Empire Strikes Back in the Movie Theatre. The reason Han told Leia he Knows after Leia said I love you was because it fit Han's character more. During Filming Harrison Ford kept saying I Love you back but it wasn't working. So Harrison Ford ad libbed with I know. George Lucas and everyone liked it when he said that fit Han's character. Everyone in the Audience Gasped when Darth Vader told Luke who he was.

The scrolling text at the beginning of each "episode" is a nod to the Flash Gordon serials of the 30s. Each chapter would start with title cards that explained what was going on.

I love the reaction to the reveal of Luke's true parentage. The reveal that Darth Vader was his father threw me for a loop the first time I saw that scene. I wish you'd left in the part where the tool tray fell on Han's head, that part always makes me laugh. Also, if you're wondering why Yoda sounds so familiar, he was puppeteered/voiced by Frank Oz, the same man who originally played Miss Piggy from The Muppets.

This is what happens when the Perfect Storm happens and all just works perfectly in synch with the Universe. Possibly one of the best movies of all time, dare I say that? We have established the characters in the first movie, and here is where it turns real dark, but the the light is always there. I LOVE this movie!

The gentleman really didn’t spoil anything in the first part. People were just upset that he was giving heads up to notable facts or scenes. Honestly, I thought he did a good thing doing that. Other people were just a custom to how other reaction channels operate. Frankly, I think they overdo the ignorance. You two do a good job.

Nice reaction - this film + Bakshi's Lord of the Rings were like my imaginative landscape as a youth - nobody had seen a film like Star Wars - and now this 2nd film added an operatic layer that was unexpected; people didn't quite know how to react - this intensity wasn't in the old 30s Flash Gordon serials that inspired Star Wars either - it was more like Wagner; even Lucas retreated from it - but this approach had a huge influence on Peter Jackson's approach to Lord of the Rings, which is built on cascades of emotion -

"The Empite Strikes Back" is the BEST "Star Wars" movie and one of the GREATEST films of all time. Easily my favorite John Williams film score.

You have to wait 3, yes 3, whole f***ing years before you can watch Return of the Jedi. 3 years of wondering about Han. 3 years of debating about if Darth Vader was lying about being Luke's father. 3 years of wondering what the hell Yoda meant about there being another. The 3 longest years of my life.

The big huge cannon that hit one of the Star Destroyers was an ion cannon. The same kind of weapon the Jawas used on R2-D2 in episode IV. It doesn't do damage, instead is disables electronics (meaning that ship would not be able to fire for a while). If I remember my lore correctly, the Mandalorians are a race. Boba-Fett is one of them. They are warlike and big into piracy, bounty hunting mercenary work and the like. Obi-Wan sacrificed himself in Star Wars was for MANY reasons. Yes to help the others escape but also because seeing Vader kill Obi-Wan would harden Luke's mind against the temptation that Vader would try to present him with and (in my opinion) it actually made Luke more powerful.

I swear in the original theatrical release Luke says to R2 “ youre lucky you don’t taste very good.” And not “ youre lucky to have gotten out of there.” 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ i saw the original release in theaters. As well as the original star wars. There are things taken out that people tell me i am making up….. but they happened. In the original star wars, when attempting to swing across the chasm on the death star, luke threw the rope, and MISSED the first time. It HAPPENED. In Empire, on cloud city, after vader’s father reveal, luke drops off the platform…… but vader used the force to lift him back up, . Then luke falls again and vader let him go that time. It HAPPENED!!!! I did not imagine it!!! It is common for filmmakers to alter subsequent releases. But these are the real memories i have of the original releases.

Just think, we all had to wait 3 years to find out what happens!

AT-AT is pronounced AT-at. At this point, CGI wasn't perfected, so the guys from The Muppet Show did Yoda. Re. Yoda's odd speech pattern, George Lucas though that if he were to talk that way, it would make him seem like he was from a place nobody in the known galaxy had ever been--maybe even another galaxy. Cloud City is floating above a gaseous planet like Jupiter called Bespin. "There is another." Originally, we had to wait 3 years to get an answer to that question. In addition to his acting, Luke looked so surprised when he was told he's the son of Vader is that George Lucas just told Mark Hamill seconds before the scene was shot.

My ex-wife about lost her s*#t when this movie ended because we watched it on VCR tape while we were dating. Imagine being 10 year old boy and having to wait 3 years to see the next movie.

Once you have seen Return of the Jedi, you should watch the Family Guy Star Wars parody called Blue Harvest. Absolutely hilarious, and just as much a classic as Star Wars.

do newer ppl seeing the Luke-vs-Vader scene on Dagobah just not realize that's not "real"? I always knew that by the way the camera does that "slowmo" effect thingy. Plus, Yoda said that Luke wouldn't need his weapons. AND I think Yoda would not have let Luke go if Vader was really there at that moment. I feel like present day viewers think it's just bad film or camera work. The amount of reactors seeing it for the first time and not realizing it's an illusion just boggles my mind.

At the heart of the production of this giant film, only four people knew "the terrible secret" - George Lucas (the writer), Kershner (Lucas's hand-picked director), James Earl Jones (who spoke the famous line), and Mark Hamill. The script that everyone read (including Mark Hamill, until the last minute) contained a dummy line, so that everyone else n the production thought that Vader had revealed something else: "I didn't kill your father - Obi-Wan Kenobi killed your father!" The director took Mark Hamill aside at the last minute, and told him the actual line that Luke would be reacting to. ...David Prowse, who portrayed Vader inside the suit, was annoyed that he was left out of the loop - claiming that if he had known what Vader really said, he would have gestured and moved his body differently. •••• The Star Wars films are full of "things are not what they seem." With the reveal spoken by Darth Vader - the greatest shocker in film history - you also learn (by implication) that the people closest to Luke - Obi-Wan, AND Uncle Owen AND Aunt Beru AND Yoda, all knew the truth of the situation, but kept that truth from young Luke. These dependable, trustworthy and honest people, all deceived him, as Luke would not have been ready to handle it. (And of course, in real life, there are situations where lying is either permissible or ethically mandatory.) And the Evil Lord Darth Vader, who lies to people repeatedly, is the one who tells Luke the hard truth.

Hiding ON the star destroyer is a tacit, not even a full tactic, simply a momentary spur of the moment idea. A TACTIC might be to disable the star destroyer’s sensor dome when they lower their shields to dump the trash, then run away at best speed. A STRATEGY is a grand direction or movement towards the winning of a war or achieving a larger goal of similar reach. Britain’s STRATEGY of nighttime carpet bombing Nazi German was a Strategy. Arming nuclear submarines with minute man missiles so that a counter strike could be launched no matter what Russia nuked was a STRATEGY.

I just can't with these reactors not understanding the impossible position Lando was in. He was literally responsible for a city with thousands of inhabitants. It wasn't like Hans was a bossom buddy. He was just a dude he was friends with in the past. That wasn't a military facility. It was a mining city. Let's put it into an easier context to understand. Let's say that the US military laid siege to the local mall wherever you live. Do you really expect the Mall Manager to fight the US Military with his mall security team?!? What if manager was told by the US general in charge that they knew his "friend" was coming shopping at the mall and all they wanted to do was question him about a known terrorist that he has intel about?!? He's supposed to immediately turn into Patrick Swayze in Red Dawn under those circumstances huh? Comon people.

You might consider watching Episodes 1,2, and 3 before you see the ending, which is Episode 6. George Lucas recommends now that these be seen in chronological order. I prefer seeing 4 and 5 to introduce us to the characters, 1-3 to get their back stories, and finally 6 to conclude the story. If you have any interest in the other Disney Star Wars offerings, I strongly recommend the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series, and that you watch it after you watch Episode 3, as it takes place between Episode 3 and 4.

Amazing reaction to Episode V!!! I was really excited to see your reaction to Yoda and Vader’s revelation. Fun fact: only Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) had the privilege to know the twist of Vader being Anakin.
