When these came out, I wasn't of age to drive yet. But these X-Runner Tacoma's have always been favorite variant of mine. It's a beautiful truck and I wish to own one some day. But for now my 2022 Tacoma Trail Edition will do. Sick truck and your X-Runner has definitely come a long way since the first video. Much, much more clean looking.
the slow shifting is primarily caused by a clutch pressure damper that is in the clutch line between the clutch master & slave and mounted to the side of the transmission . the heavy OEM flywheel does make the revs hang, but just bypassing or modifying the damper improves shifting signifigantly
This thing is sweet brother! As an owner if a 03 V6 4runner with 245k, these era Toyotas are stone reliable, minis the rust. I'm so jealous of that standard transmission! I was also honestly surprised at the torque coming from the V6 compared to my 01 xterra
Well I see you kinda came around to seeing the cooler side of the Xrunner and the peppy and fun to drive side of the truck. Like I said in your other post. The truck was made to track not so much drag race. But it will hold its own from a dig with most trucks. It will definitely out handle most trucks for sure. But again I love my two XRunners I have. Keep enjoying your truck and Keep on Trucking. Oh yea I agree with you. Whoever had that truck before messed it up with cutting the frame and putting those aftermarket rims. I thank the OEM wheels are so much better personally. But to each there own. And yea the paint sucks on the trucks. I had to have both mine repainted in areas after I bought them. I need to send u pics of mine. Two sweet rides I have. Oh and that tailgate latch. I replaced mine with backup camera add on to my aftermarket radio if u have that option. Looks absolutely great and functional too.
Had an 05 for 10 years and 170k miles. You can absolutely slam gears, did it daily. Hammer 1-2 around a tight corner, kick the rear out and hold that slide allll day long. Only vehicle I’ve ever owned that I still genuinely miss even 8 years later.
You should see my 08 xrunner. 170k miles. It's work truck now. Throw out bearing been squeeking since 2012. Clear coat coming off. Plastic missing. I love my truck.
Before winter hits have the frame sandblasted around the notch areas. After that see if it’s welded properly, then paint it black with some good spray paint. After you paint it slather the frame with fluid film. Nice truck.
Wonder why they put a notch in the frame in the first place. The truck is not lowered.Great video. URD makes a short shift kit. Well worth the money. Helps with quicker shifts. Like those wheels. Did you put them on?
yeah, they're some kind of hyindai or kia wheels i found on marketplace. frame was notched for the lowering kit that was on there before (made the truck useless since id hang up on speedbumps with a bike in the bed)
Can't believe I've never seen or heard of the X Runner! It's almost impossible to find a Chevy S10 Xtreme in decent shape but I definitely want one of these 😮
@@Mad8vCycles thanks for the reply. I have an opportunity to buy a ‘15 X for $25k 70,000 miles in Hawaii Anything i should be aware of? Any advice? Got to see the truck and test drive it. Cosmetically could use a heavy detail and i will eventually have it painted but other than that i like it but not 100% on pulling the trigger
@@gsy971gear synchros like to exit the building in these transmissions. grinding gears etc. im going through a transmission blowup now (you can see it in one of the latests vids). otherwise they're pretty solid. 25k seems insane to me however since mine cost like 13 with 100k miles on it at the time
@@Mad8vCycles yeah sounds high to me too but looking at comps where i am from it seems like a good deal. Guys are selling older models with a lot more mileage (over 100k) for about $30k. In Hawaiii now even buying new Toys are difficult
@@gsy971that might makes sense since everything is hard to get to there. just out of curiosity i did a shipping quote from me to Honolulu and it would cost 5k to put the truck on a boat. So even bringing one over from the mainland would add 5k.
