Myth: The Fallen Lords (TFL) Playthrough Mission 5: Flight From Covenant Played on Myth 2 Engine with the Fallen Levels Plugin Legendary Difficulty No Casualties
I loved playing this game. I had one level that I couldn't get past though and then had real life things that got me away from gaming for a while. I want to restart and finish again!
Was just playing this game. This level actually, just for fun. So I thought to myself; would anyone on RU-vid have a video of this level, and if so, would they use the same strategy? Low and behold, first video for Flight From Covenant that comes up: you're using the exact same strategy, lol. It's not a very obvious approach to this level. Makes more sense to "go around them", and venture out towards the left side of the map, cross the swamps. You're not doing it 100% the same, of course, but it's extremely close. You can do this raw; just picking this specific level, and playing with inexperienced units, but it's better to play at least one mission prior to this one, just to have some leveled up units available. The way the game looks is somewhat different in your video. In mine, the terrain is more detailed, and I can't zoom out as far as you're doing. At the very start, I always focus my guys on the left and top side first, just to avoid fighting on multiple fronts simultaneously. I normally only use Mauriac and 3, 4 or 5 other Soldiers with the most experience and most kills. The rest of the Soldiers aren't really needed, and it gives you a chance to level up those few that you are using even further, which comes in handy for the second part. That is, of course, positioning right behind that narrow breach in the wall. What I do differently is that, again, I do not use my Soldiers at all. In fact, you could totally complete this level even if they only gave you Mauriac and a handful of other Soldiers. I place all my satchels deeper inside the passageway, fanning out towards the left and right, more to the other side of the wall. I place my two Dwarfs closer to the breach, right in front of it actually. My Archers are standing where yours are, but in a straight line formation, and I don't allow them to fire. Obviously, I use one Soldier for bait, but never Mauriac. You can actually get the runner to return to safety, but that's always a close call. Anyway, I then have Mauriac and 3 or 4 highly experienced Soldiers stand right next to my Dwarfs, in a small half circle right in front of the breached wall. They do not attack either until I want them to attack. The reason why you need only 4 or 5 good Soldiers is because there simply isn't enough room inside the tunnel for the enemy to overwhelm those Soldiers. Their numbers mean nothing there. I think there's like 35 Myrmidons, but I usually kill most of them with the satchel charges. Much more than what you got with the straight satchel line. The Soldiers then take out the few that are left, but if they're too many still, you can use the Dwarfs to throw bombs just behind them. When that's done, I put all Soldiers to the right, position both Dwarfs right at the entrance of the breach, but both standing on the left side, and that's when I allow the Archers to fire at random, while manually selecting spots on the ground where I let the Dwarfs throw their bombs. The Thrall don't stand a chance. It's a beautiful strategy, lol. The next part I do a lot differently. I move my forces north of the breach, until there's that big hole in the earth. I place my Archers in two teams of 4 towards the west, where the Wights and a number of Thrall emerge out of the swamp, but I keep the rest just south/east to the large hole in the ground. Again, I only use those few Soldiers (just realized now they're called Warriors, but you know what I mean). I keep them hugging the edge of the hole on the bottom right corner of it, where the trees grow. It's basically the same bottleneck tactic as before, just using the hole as a natural barrier now. The two Dwarfs (or Dwarves), I place on the east (or right) side of the hole; waiting. I then sent one Soldier north, all the way up to that little lone house. He then baits the Thrall that come in from the north and north/west, and he leads them back towards the right side of the map, and down towards the east side of the hole. It's a narrow passage due to the trees, and while the Dwarfs aren't as effective here as they were at the wall, they do take out a number of Thrall, before having to fall back towards the south of the hole. The remaining Thrall are then taken out by Mauriac and his elite buddies. Meanwhile, as the bait Soldier makes contact with the Thrall near the cottage, a large number of Thrall come out of the swamps. I use one team of 4 Archers to slowly bait them towards the east of the map, while the other 4 keep distance, slightly north of them. The Archers fire, and fall back, fire and fall back, until they reach the Soldiers that are stationed south/east of the hole. By then, the Thrall will either all be dead, or you can use one Soldier to take out whatever remains of the Thrall (won't be many, and they're probably damaged by now, so one Solider's usually enough for that). The rest of the mission is easy. Played this so much that I've perfected every level's strategic possibilities, lol. Good to see other people using similar tactics. I'll check out your other videos (if there are more), because I'm curious how you play certain other missions. Cheers!
Way to dissect the whole level! You got this one down. It looks slightly different because this is actually a plug-in for Myth 2. Yes I have lots of more Myth videos for you to enjoy!
Yeah I noticed! I still have the original Myth 1 disc, which is why it's slightly different. I watched some videos already, and I saw some interesting tactics, and some very similar to what I usually do. I'll check out the vids for the other Myth games, since I no longer have 2 and 3 (I think my little brother still has them somewhere over at his place), and I've kinda forgotten how they looked and played. Sorry for the lengthy comment, couldn't help myself, lol.
They sure did! Its really fun to watch you go through them and remember how difficult some of them could be. Thanks for posting! I am currently enjoying all your playthroughs :D
Have you played? You really have to play it to see the appeal. If it was faster, there is no way you could keep up as this game is very micro intensive. It's probably why there really isn't another game like it. I highly recommend trying it out if you haven't so you can truly see the appeal.
