I believe she was built to be a gymnast. The perfect body form just all around perfection. It was a pleasure watching her perform on TV during the Olympics
I used to deliver bottled water to Henry Mancini's home when he lived in Thousand Oaks, California years ago. One day he was sitting at his piano and doing what he did best. I asked him if he would play Nadia's Theme and without hesitation he did and he was obviously amazing. By far one of the nicest and the most talented celebrities that I ever had the pleasure to meet.
D That’s not what I meant. It’s just funny because he wrote music that was far above Cotton’s dream (Young & Restless, Nadia’s theme). Moon River and the Pink Panther were among his greatest hits. I like the small incidental music from the Pink Panther- ‘The lonely Princess’, ‘Champagne and quail’, etc.,)
I'm 58 years old now and still remember the 1976 Olympics. My dad rented a color tv for the event as we only had a black and white one at home. I remember Nadia and how she shocked the world with her amazing athleticism, she was absolutely amazing and the star of the entire Olympics. Nadia I hope you're well and I'd just like to say thanks for the great memories.
i still believe that Nadia will always be the greatest Olympian of all time. she not only pulled off the perfect 10's ,she also was the turning point for gymnastics and everyone in the world fell in love with her. my eyes always get a little wet when i see her.....XOXOXO a perfect 10 from the American judge !
1976 Montreal Olympics -- Nadia, age 14, scores the first perfect 10 EVER in gymnastics. I remember watching her performance live. Then she did it SIX more times. Fearless.
I named my Daughter after Nadia Comaneci. To watch her was spell binding, my daughter hated the name whilst she was growing up, but then as she blossomed in to a woman began to love her name, I knew this would happen as I knew her mother and I scored the perfect ten!. This music reminds me how lucky I am its got so much feeling.
@@lisetbernal8697 Nope, it was already created; just like Francia said, it was renamed after her. I still hear it as the theme song for The Young and the Restless.
I was 11 years old when she done this I am now 45 and have never seen this happen again. Judges have given 10's in other Olympics to other athletes. But there will never be another Nadia. 7 x 10 = Perfect
I still don't understand why Olga Kolbut wasn't awarded this sport's first 10 for her unprecedented uneven-bars routine in the '72 Games in Moscow. Maybe less graceful overall but far more daring & technically difficult, also illegal before the turn of that decade (for safety reasons). Olga returned to compete with 14-year-old Nadia in '76 but she was 21 & injured--not in top form.
Nadia has the platinum record on her office wall in Oklahoma. I pass the gym all the time but have never stopped to go look. She travels to Romania every 2 months to visit the hospital she helped build...incredible person
As a 11 year old, 1976 was my first true Olympics. In 72 I barley remember, watching the hostage situation. But 1976 Nadia stole my heart and the Olympics became a passion for me. Thank you Nadia!
I was 9 years old in 1976 .I saw her on television 📺 fell in love with her . Her performance was perfection at its finest. Best I ever seen in woman Gymnastics Nadia 🌹
I use to watch her was 13. she was always so serious and sad, but her presence was admirable. I wanted to become like her, There has never been another one like her and don't think there will be a another Nadia
I remembered practically the whole world rooted for her and she responded in kind with the perfect ever returns. She was then just the darling of the whole olympic. There will never be another like her ever! Stay well Nadia. Thanks for the memories!
I'll never ever forget thinking she had scored 1.00 when in reality, Nadia had just scored a perfect 10.00 but the score board at that point in time wasnt equipped to display a 10.00. An amazing performance in gymnastic history!
Wow I remember this. The theme from “The Young & the Restless” was perfect for this brilliant young lady. It was even a minor hit on the top 40. But I will always forever associate it with the lovely Nadia and her perfection.
Am 61 now and this makes me cry because I was 18 at that time even if I was busy young man I never missed to watch the Olimpics and I remember Nadia Comaneci winning all and that lovely Pony tail catched my heart. Also I read the Nadia story after that and it was not all Gold in her life
I can. Elena Mukhina. At the World's Gymnastics All Around in 1978 she beat Nadia and performed flawlessly on the uneven bars. Because she was from the Soviet Union she wasn't given a perfect score and it was obvious if you watched the competition that the judges were biased. Nadia's floor performance was terrible and she fell off the uneven bars. Sadly, Elena broke her leg while training for the 1980 Olympics and the Soviet doctors ripped off her cast and forced her to keep training. She eventually broke her spine trying to do a Thomas Salto as part of her floor routine and became quadriplegic from the neck down. Elena died in 2006 of complications from her spinal injury. Nadia is amazing, but so was Elena.
@@TNR-lover What they did to Elena is unforgivable. They made that little girl go out and perform, before she was physically recovered, just to bolster Soviet pride. She should have been given whatever time she needed for her leg to heal before going out to attempt such dangerous maneuvers. That was a tragedy that was completely the fault of those who forced her to compete before she was ready.
This is thee most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard. I pl;ayed it on the violin in orcastra in the 7th grade,I love it so much,I want to cry every time I hear it...oh, I'm 47 now
At 10 years old she was my first Hero! 45 years later it brings me back to those feelings,of excitement of watching this magnificent athlete! I’m relieved she’s living a,wonderful life, she’s so deserving ❤️🇷🇴
There was just something about her. I don't know if you would say infatuation, "hero worship" but I just could not take my eyes off her. I'm 47 & remember very well my Dad telling me how remarkable it was that someone from "her country" would dare 2 show personality or smile during/after her routine. All I knew back then is that every movement was PERFECT, every hand gesture, every move, every tumbling pass-she was incredible-then they had to go and add the most perfect music Oh, good lord....
I wanted to be a gymnast 🤸♀️ because of her - it was hard work. I did do a few things and it was fun. She was an amazing, gifted, hardworking athlete and gymnast.
I was 20 yrs old in 76 and had no interest in watching the Olympics, however I was sitting with my parents and they were watching and I was glued to the TV, she was incredible and I have to watch since that time.
I remember back in the day when the teacher would pass out the weekly readers and she was on the cover with her medals and I remember when she was on everything it seemed!!
I remember the 1972 Olympics in Munich and Olga that set the stage through success and it was the error on the parnell bars if not lifting her legs at one moment for whatever reason that caused a loss in the gold for that event, Nadia the younger romanian came in 4 yrs later flawlessly with even more innovation that Olga gave to make these two the most memorable in history for gymnastics.
Icône absolue du sport, de la danse, de la jeunesse et de la beauté. Et toujours aussi belle encore aujourd'hui. Un être qui ne nous inspire que des sentiments positifs avec le don de nous faire toucher au sublime.
When i was a small kid and knew nothing but the first time i heard my mom wacthing that soap oprera and heard that music it took me into another world and instantly reminds me of my mom when i was so young restless RIP MOM YOUR A QUEEN IN HEAVEN NOW
Every little girl in the world wanted to be just like her back in the day. Wish we still had heros like her for these little girls to admire. Cool video!!
I ALSO WAS ONLY 11YRS OLD WHEN I SAW NADIA PERFORM IN THE 1976 OLYMPICS,FOR SOME SRANGE REASON I DON'T REMEMBER N E OTHER OLYMPIC GAME ONLY HER GYNASTICS THAT YR. I WILL ALWAYS LOVE NADIA AND REMEMBER HER 4 EVER.HER THEME I WILL NEVER 4 GET. THERE WILL ONLY BE 1 NADIA COMANECI PERFECT 10. THIS YR GABBY CAME CLOSE . BUT NO 1 WILL EVER TAKE THE PLACE OF NADIA.
No Olympics in 2020, so I'll take what I can get I was 12 when I watched her pull the perfect 10's no one has surpassed her, I'm still in awe of her and Nadia Theme makes it beautiful
I look at this footage and remember watching this as a girl of 12 , now looking back I’m almost sad the film looks so old when it feels almost like yesterday , I was watching in awe ❤️😟
I was an obsessively training martial artist and dancer in 1976. At the age of 16, I was living in Montreal when 14 year old Nadia pulled her perfect tens in the Montreal Olympics that year, and I watched her do it live, each time. I had a definite crush. Bless the Beasts and the Children was one of my favorite movies in my youth. It all melded quite perfectly. This brings back SO much.
I was about 10 yrs old when Nadia performed her miracles; I remember being in complete awe. She's still a joy to watch. She --and the defection of Bela Karolyi-- really ushered in the American Olympic gymnastics movement. People can decide for themselves if that was a positive for young American girls. Desite the horror stories of anorexia/bulimia and overwork, overall, I hope it was a positive.
Perfection comes along once in a generation Nadia is our once i'm glad I got to see this on television. Its also the same Olympics Bruce Jenner wins worlds greatest athlete. But everyone will always remember Nadia for being the best and with out a doubt PERFECT......
Hermoso tema que realza el gran talento y trabajo de aquella niña que sorprendió al mundo en 1976, nada es imposible y Nadia lo demostró con un 10 perfecto en su presentación...
I see this and I fall in love all over again. I was only 7 and saw an angel flying through the air, landing softly with no doubt. Power and Grace, she was Perfection
Found this tribute yesterday; thanks to the OP at 340.709 views. When we look back at pivotable moments of influence in our lives, we are offered a unique opportunity to be the judge of how that influence played out in our lives. Nadia was a perfect 10, and a girl that a young boy like myself - might have dreamed to become friends with...
Yet another heart broken just knowing I would never see her back then when I was crushing on her... I had this album and my 13 yr old heart would send tears to my eyes. LOL, this was as close to understanding why girls would scream their lungs out and sob when they saw their crushes perform! You can listen to other tributes but this song IS Nadia. I was so happy when she got to America and married Bart Connor, after going through hell and back. Dictator wanted her for his son, had to run.
As an athlete and an artist of my sports. I feel that Nadia was just so mentally powerful That it Gave her everything she needed to create the success she achieved...kiki
judging by the other " old" comments, here is my take 42 yrs later.. I remember the scoreboard not being programmed for a "10" because at that time no one was " perfect" ( and today, judging has become stricter, so , there is no "10") I remember the sports commentators having a difficult time with her name , and her, knowing little or no English, and being asked how to say her name .. and today.. absolute perfection she definetly raised the bar
