I’ve heard Nancy and John sing this together and that is really beautiful, and I cannot imagine how it would be if Emmy had joined them with her harmony as in this version. I can imagine it would be just surreal. This is as good as it gets.
RIP John Prine truly one of the best and generous songwriters of his or any generation. RIP Nanci Griffith and thank you for your beautiful interpretation of the song. I truly miss both you.
Have seen many versions and this is fantastic. It has such a buoyant lilt about it, that it is as good as any of the other, maybe better. Her expressions add soulful value to this song. Just glorious.
Love seeing her performance, always with a cheering smile on her lips, she has grown to a beautiful lady from the young girl who was performing in Texas....will follow her recitals, thanks to utube! what attracted me to listening to her music was upon hearing her sing Never See The Sun by Dolores Keane, Emmylou Harris with Mary Black, her voice has become deeper, more mature and I simply loved it!
I listened to this 1,000 times after the dissolution of an 18 year marriage. This, and "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac and live versions later by Stevie Nicks. It was challenging to listen to, wondering sometimes if I was just "out there running to be on the run", but in the end it was the right thing to do. This song got me through it though, the album version with Nanci and John Prine, and the RU-vid versions too.
