For those interested in who I am you can find below a short presentation.
My name is Daniel, I am an electronic engineer who started from some time to work with wood. Wood was a passion of mine since my childhood when I grew with my uncle who was a woodworker.
When I was about 35 I bought a CNC machine and made several things with it.
Working with wood I needed some cutting tools so I had to buy hand planes and chisels. They needed to be sharpened so I have discovered whetstones and I have another passion now: sharpening. I like sharpening and I discover how relaxing is to sharpen a kitchen knife. I am not a specialist, I am a self though from what I read and from other people movies.
On my channel, you can find movies with what I do in my workshop: sharpening, some woodworking, repairing things and whatever I have to do and I consider it might be interesting for you.
I am sure that you don’t like all my movies. There is no problem, it is normal. :) If you would like to tell me your opinions please be civilized. :) But I hope that you like them at least 99.99%. :)
Thank you for watching and as I already told you in the movie please support me with a like, comment, share, subscribe, etc. Any of them are important to me.

I'm new to sharpening. Would a set of choseras be ok to use on really high rockwell steels? example: maxamet, s110v, etc. I don't think I would like the diamond stones that much.

Hi Anthony. I am not a fan of diamond stones. My favorite stones are the Shapton stones. I didn't fond a knife yet not able to be sharpen by Shapton, but the technique is very important too. Choseras ar good stones too but not my favorites. :)

No. It would not. And it has nothing to do with rockwell hardness and everything to do with the quantity and type of carbides inside the steel. This should be basic knowledge but it seems like there's so much misinformation in low IQ knife world that no one understand anything. You can take 1095 to 65 rockwell and it will be easier to machine ie sharpen than the steels you listed in their soft annealed state. Do you understand? If you want a non diamond/cbn abrasive that can cut those materials fine enough to create a fine edge you would need a stone that is made of SiC.. like the 1k sigma select 2 or the gritomatic sic stones. Otherwise you must use diamond or cbn. In the lower grits, with larger abrasive sizes, it does not matter much.

Thanks for sharing knowledge,i just don't understand last part,you say that naniwa and shapton glass at lower grit up to 1000 can work on super steels or no?

Thanks! Subscribed. I would love to see a magnified comparison vid (speed, finish, and feel) of 300-500 grit stones; King Deluxe 300 versus Chosera 400, and whatever else u want to throw in; especially Norton India fine, Norton Crystolon fine, Shapton Pro/Kuromaku 320, Shapton Glass 500, Suehiro Chemical 320, Cerax 320. Scandi grind Morakniv knives would show the scratch pattern well. Common China D2 steel pocket knives would be a great test medium too. What do u think? Could u please do something like that? It could even be a series. King Deluxe 300 vs the world. Butget King 300 vs premium stones. King 300 vs Norton oilstones. King 300 vs China water stones. King 300 vs [insert stone name here]. King 300 vs D2. King 300 vs budget steels. King 300 vs super steels.

Thank you for subscribe. If you provide all the materials I can do anything. :) Kidding aside I only have a few of the stones that you mentioned. :)

I have a Shapton kuromaku grit 1000. I am thinking of buying a chosera 400 because I would like to have a coarser stone. What do you think about It? Do you recommend me another Stone instead?
@DanielWorkshop
@DanielWorkshop 2 года назад
It is a good stone, a little different from shapton. Mine is a little softer than the shapton and it makes some slurry.
@reductancioposeso5042
@reductancioposeso5042 2 года назад
Means more slurry more speed bitting metal?
@DanielWorkshop
@DanielWorkshop 2 года назад
Who can say for sure if more slurry means more speed. Is hard to see. :)
@reductancioposeso5042
@reductancioposeso5042 2 года назад
Are both stones quite different in bitting properties? I mean. If you find much speed difference between both stones to remove metal
@DanielWorkshop

The difference is not that big.

Oy hate to see those cracks in your 5k. If you can catch em before they get too deep, you can lap them out. Problem is, you have to lap it after every use, to keep them away. Otherwise, they return after 2-3 sharpening. Mine eventually spread, and the stone crumbled. I got cracks in my 3, 5, and 10k Naniwa Pro. I was able to lap the 3 and 10k out, but my 5k is a lost cause :( My Naniwa Pro 1k makes a green slurry that gets EVERYWHERE. I know you like that slurry, but man I hate using that stone, bc of it.
@DanielWorkshop
@DanielWorkshop 3 года назад
The 5K is like that since I bought it (second hand).The cracks didn't change and they don't bother me at all. Now that you say that yours crumbled I am thinking to use the other side of the stone. Regarding the 1k. My chosera seems to make more slurry than the professional. :) My professional makes almost no slurry. It might be that they are different production batch. :)

That's right these stones are quite hard, have a unique bonding which makes them feel different to other stones, absorb more water than other SNG stones, and they are quite friable, you can see that from the mess they make in use, the green 1k stone will make green shit mess everywhere ... when compare to say shapton pro which is a bit harder but less friable, yet the shapton cuts just as well, maybe better. The speed of these stones is greatly exaggerated. I think it's mostly because of misinformation on youtube. Everyone likes to be parrot and just repeat what someone else said, so whoever is willing to talk the most shit basically sets the conversations. Real accurate information is very hard to get. imo these are kinda overpriced, over hyped, stones which are made to have the vibe of a traditional stone but the performance of a modern stone. It makes a very unique product but the speed is not like what many claim it is. These stones cut gentle rather than fast. Shapton glass stones have a similar level of hardness, similar level of friavility but slightly less, yet they cut much much faster and more aggressively. Anyone that tells you otherwise is a parrot, idiot or liar. Or they sell something. It's amazing how many folks believe anything some salesman will say. If you buy then in the 15 mm form from Amazon Japan, they are for sure wrth trying. If someone wants to charge you $130 for a 20 mm version of the 3k, and more for the 5k and 10k, it's just stupid. Some charge $275 for 30 mm version of the 10k, but you can go to Amazon and get the 15 mm same stone for $60. Very dumb stuff. All hype. For $60 it's a great stone. It's basically a more thirsty and friable SP 12k. All the chosera stones leave a very nice looking finish on the steel. They are very unique stones. But they are very over hyped.

I have over 100 stones and naniwa's are not my favorites. Yes they are over priced but not because they are good, because they sell.
@jeffhicks8428
@jeffhicks8428 Год назад
@@DanielWorkshop They are good, and they sell, but I think it's overhyped and misunderstood. I think they are really good stones but people just need to understand what is what. For example, I love super stones (for finishing and polishing, or for razors and shears NOT for sharpening knives!) but Ive lost count how many people I've heard who got them thinking it's just a normal stone, they didn't realize what is the purpose of such a stone then they complain it doesnt work as expected. The chosera are nice stones, hard, slow wearing, cut well but gently, leave a very nice finish on the steel in all grits, unique feel, decent range but lacking a proper course stone... I just think the hype is crazy. 100 stones is a lot. I thought I had a problem, but you have surpassed my compulsion handily. It would be nice if there was real accurate info easily available so that people did not basically have to buy anything to get a real answer for it. It would be nice if someone would just say... okay, it's very hard but it takes more water than other splash and go stones, some of them are quite friable like the 1k, some of them less so, but still all of them much more friable than shapton pro for instance.. but everyone has emotional language and hyperbole, half of them trying to sell something on their site.

Man, you're too much for me. :) I like your passion and I would like to meet you face to face to share out impressions, feelings and experiences. I an Romanian so I don't have the hyperbole with me. :) By the way I think I watch most of burfections video and it seemed to me that he likes more the Suehiro stones. I have tested Cerax and I don't like them at all but Debado S goes into my favorites. Lately I have tested also the lobster series and I like them. Also the naniwa Traditional 1000 is a good stone. I sharpen razors too and I tend to use the chosera on them. But for knives I prefer shapton all the way. For me the 1000 shapton kuromaku is fantastic. Glass stones on the other hand I don't like them that much.
@jeffhicks8428
@jeffhicks8428 Год назад
@@DanielWorkshop Shapton Pro is under rated. For such a hard and minimally friable stone, they cut very well. Its probably the hardest and best wearing such stone on the market. The glass series you can notice a benefit if you try the 500 grit for example. Very aggressive fast cutting stone with a good finish. A lot of people are big fans of the 400 chosera, the 500 glass is like a faster more aggressive one. ofc they feel different I just mean the performance.
