A pressure bandage has multiple uses in the field. The North American Rescue 4" Flat ETD (Emergency Trauma Dressing) is no exception. The bandage is light weight and compact which makes it a great edition to your IFAK or trauma kit. The bandage is similar to the Israeli Bandage that is very popular. The NAR bandage is the one that I am using in my EDC kit.

Good , this is what I want to see. You demonstrated the many uses for this bandage by actually showing how to apply it on a trauma victim. Excellent.

Thanks for your videos and information. I've purchased 2 of these to add into my bags. I do amateur radio support for events. There are times when I am the only person at a check point. Watching your videos I've added clotting gauze, these pressure bandages, and education from you, to be better prepared.

Bought a few of these recently (some for real world use and extras to train with) Had my wife wrap it around my forearm and I could not believe how tight it was! She got that thing just as tight (if not tighter) than an Israeli bandage or an OLAES, which really shocked me. Can't believe how good the NAR ETD is, especially for the price!

@@limboneutral6849 I have heard that some of the ones for sale on Amazon are sometimes fake so I'd recommend buying them directly from NAR. The cost depends on the size but they are from $4 to $9 depending on the size, etc. Well worth getting them direct in my opinion and they are relatively inexpensive.

As somone that has had to use a compression bandage on himself (axe mishap), I agree you should always carry at least one. I carry two as well as 2 tourniquets. As large man, I also find having the SWAT-T tourniquet handy as well, since a standard compression bandage does not create enough pressure around my hips or chest. I can use the SWAT-T on top of it to get more pressure on the wound. Just something for us large people to consider. Love your channel. Thanks.

For those who have a strong preference for their products to be made in the USA, the North American Rescue ETD is Berry Amendment compliant, unlike the First Care Products Israeli Bandage.

Hey Skinny Medic I was at a park shelter our church was having a cook out a young girl was running between 2 vehicles she fell and hit her face on a trailer hitch I got her up and she had a cut under her right eye about 2 inches long and I could see white bone the entire 2 inches it was in a awkward place to bandage so I gave her a big cotex to hold against it untill her dad could get her to the hospital but how do you bandage this place ?
@SkinnyMedic
@SkinnyMedic 3 года назад
The head and face can be difficult to bandage. It honestly sounds like you did the right think by just holding it in place.

You can buy isreali bandages that don't roll all the way out on you, and with the tighting key thing. I used them in the British Army, we get them issed to us.

The ones i got are hold together by a little bit of string through the layers that have just enough friction but that just works once

Yes, new batches of ITBs do have light stitching to prevent losing control of the tail.

I have a question ( again :D) : In an active shooter scenario (or something like this) what do you do if you have more injured people than gloves? Try to clean the hands or the gloves or even something else? And what to do if you haven't got wipes or something clean to clean them?
@scream370
@scream370 7 лет назад
In an active shooter scenario you have bigger problems than possible cross infections of patients. Life before limb, infections can be treated (but not all healed). If you have enough gloves use them, if you don't, well, than better save some lives without.
@richard6133
@richard6133 7 лет назад
In addition to what +Minuteman187 said, if the victim is conscious and able, assist and guide them in self-aid. Save your gloves for those who can't help themselves at all. The amount of supplies available is an important consideration in triage. Engaging victims who are able to self-aid adds to your available manpower, another important limited resource.

They fixed the Israeli Bandages they don't unroll anymore
@scream370
@scream370 7 лет назад
Have you ever used the real "Emergency Bandage" aka "israeli bandage" made by FirstCare? They also have a mechanism that prevents unrolling, but its a stitching, not the velcro strips. Maybe you used the cheaper "WoundStop" bandages. They are also made by FirstCare, but are their civilian/homecare products. I personally really like the Israeli for its versatility that comes with the pressure bar and don't really see an advantage for the NAR product here, except for the package measurements. The tourniquet use for these kinds of bandages are pretty tricky and fail from time to time, as the securing bar is made of relatively weak plastic. A real tourniquet should always be used if available.
@SkinnyMedic
@SkinnyMedic 7 лет назад
Yes I have and I don't remember any of them having the velco stoppers. Not sure ... I do agree 100% that if you have major bleeding on the arm or leg then use a "real" tourniquet.
@scream370
@scream370 7 лет назад
Exactly, there is no velcro on the israeli. They use a thread, that goes through all the bandage layers, so when you wrap the bandage, one layer after another gets loose from the thread. If you loose grip of the bandage it will fall right to the next layer held with the thread. A little complicated to explain, but works as good as the velcro.
@SkinnyMedic

+Minuteman187 I will double check the ones I have but the last two I used did not have anything to stop them.
