Nardwuar interviews Toro y Moi at Tyler, The Creator's Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in Los Angeles, CA USA! Doot doo ! Nardwuar Merch & Links: linktr.ee/nardwuar
Toro y moi is so underrated. One of the pillars of the indie lo fi music scene of the late 2000’s/early 2010’s. He deserves more recognition, along with Neon Indian.
My dad was the guitarist and singer for the Stargazer band. ❤️ I remember the days hanging out with Chaz when we were younger at those band practices. Happy to hear that this is still a core memory for him. 🫶🏼
How he refers to us young music lovers/artists as “kids” when giving out advice warms my heart. He really is the artist to look up to and learn a thing or two from as he quite literally created a genre with his own sound. Forever love Chaz!! Thanks for bringing him on
What a massively chill guy he is. I literally went out and bought his album "Mahal" after watching that listening party video, it was hilarious and the album is fantastic.
Chillwave pioneer. So glad Chaz is getting recognition. 2010s era will be so special to us millennials. Washed out, neon Indian, small Black, million young, strfkr, naked and famous. We getting old 😢
Discovering Toro Y Moi on GTAV Radio was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. It's been crazy watching his progression over 10 years since then. Such an amazing, talented artist that keeps it fresh every project. Toro y Moi Forever
@@valentinarmenta4982 he has like 3 songs in the game, harm in change, so many details from anything in return and new beat from underneath the pine. Two in Mirror Park Radio and one at WorldWide FM
Discovering Toro y moi in 2011 not only led me to listening to Tyler but also led me to figuring who I am (punny). I seriously do not know who I’d be without Chaz or Tyler, those two dudes have been huge influences on me just by being themselves and creating their art. Forever grateful for them both 🙏🏾
Chaz? He’s already peaked in terms of popularity but has a steady, loyal fan base and will always have the attention of music nerds and publications for years to come. He’s been around for a while at this point. His monthly listeners on Spotify are always pretty instant as well. He just does his thing and consistently reinvents himself.
It brings me so much joy how artists of all genres welcome Nardwuar. Especially after the 90s and 2000s era when artists used to be violent against Nardwuar just for the crooked fun: steal his hat, destroy his rare gifts, abuse him verbally. Nardwuar used to hide in the toilet to get to the green room for the interview. Now he has his own special booth in the festival and fans love him. Also I enjoyed the Toro’s cameo in Tyler’s interview and I started to listen to his music (ad well as dozen others). Nardwuar speaks about music a lot and this is what opens artists even more than their childhood facts. Legend
@@jamesorsak8592watch the blur interview too, the drummer Dave Rowntree is very physically aggressive to Nardwuar (something he has since been very publicly apologetic and remorseful about since in fairness).
Been a fan of Toro since 2009, this interview has such a vibe, he's humble and I love how Nard just keeps surprising him. Thank you as always nardwuar!!!
I used to see his old band Heist and the Accomplice at New Brookland Tavern in Columbia SC and the whole place would turn into a dance party. So happy for this dude.
Still my number one artist and inspiration after so many years, much love to Chaz. Listening to his music has really helped me learn about myself and i can't thank him enough for sharing with us all and being himself genuinely.
I remember discovering chaz in 2011-2012 and how cool I thought it was that he made such good music out of his bedroom. His discography has a wide variety of genres but they are always so good. One of my biggest inspos!!!
I think just as impressive as the research he’s doing is the fact that he’s remembering all this stuff about multiple people, not sure how much time was in between these camp flog naw interviews but it’s impressive to recall all that, even with notes
I went to see Steve Lacy live at the RE:SET festival this past summer, and i will not lie, but Toro y Moi was by far my favorite performance from that lineup, def out performed Steve Lacy that day 🔥 super underrated artist and i’m a bigger fan of him after this interview 🤙
I was lucky enough to meet Chaz back in 2010 when he played with Caribou in Los Angeles, he was very nice in person after the show he waited by the exit and greeted everyone who wanted to say hi and I was able to get a picture with him on film 😊 Also saw him that same year I believe when he played with Nosaj thing. Man what a great time, seeing these amazing artists in intimate spaces for like $15.
Nice guy, gotta tap in with his music. Only heard the track he had wit Jack back in da day but off this interview alone, you could tell bro a true musician!
6:57 I always love when the artist being interviewed tries to figure out who Nardwuar contacted to get this information they're being asked about from.
I've been a huge fan of Toro y Moi since like 09. I bought an MPC back then because I wanted to make music like him. Never could hit that same sound but huge influence. Glad to see him get the Nardwuar treatment.
My favorite artist of all time, so glad he’s doing great and seems so happy. I think he’s our generations Herbie Hancock, so versatile and everything is quality.
One of the greatest artists of our time, FINALLY!!!!! Been waiting on this for so long, and it’s everything I could’ve ever hoped for 😁 Thank you to Nardwuar and Toro and Tyler ❤️
Sweet, Innocent Sounding All Throught and Then the Deep Voice Send Off At the End Lol. First of Hearing About Toro and I'm Intrigued to Dive Into His Discography. Great Interview By Nardy, As Always!
