I was angry and sad that your visit to my home town for 30 years was spoilt by unruly ignorant thugs. The river and local canals are beautiful places full of history. I hope at some point you may return and walk along from where you moored to enjoy Carey park with your dog. This walk takes you through to Anderton and is well worth a visit. It’s a shame a small group of hooligans give a town such a bad vibe.

We're doing a big loop again for this year's holiday. I keep a pocket shot with soft paintballs on standby. The ink doesn't wash off easily and makes hoodlums easily identifiable to dibble 😉

I clicked on the video purely due to the title of yobs and I have to say I absolutely thoroughly enjoyed this video so very much and what a very beautiful lady you are in every way, you made me feel so happy and warm and I was smiling and laughing at your bubbly personality and your accent because although I was born in London I left North Yorkshire in 2001 to come to New Zealand after my family passed away in the space of four years and I lived in North Yorkshire for quite some time and I met my partner Muriel in London but she wanted to go back home and she lived in York and she was born in Cawood and so we got married in 1977 and we lived in Ulleskelf near tadcaster and we moved around a bit, Acomb Yorks and then in 1978 our daughter Emma was born and that we went back down to London and ultimately in the late '80s we went back to Yorkshire from London and lived in a house 4 miles from Selby in a place called Hambleton on the road to Leeds and Emma went to Selby high school. Over the decades I had an avalanche of different jobs from the then rowntrees chocolate factory and delivering newspapers for John menzies and I drove a 40 ft designer transporter for polar motor company in York, well actually fulford and I did some car valeting too and we travelled all over, honeymoon in Scarborough and then Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and the Yorkshire Moors and the dales and so I picked up the accent as I've lived in four countries but the Yorkshire accent keeps appearing in every paragraph I speak and of course Muriel was broad Yorkshire accent but I was trying to work out whereabouts you are from lovely lady because when you pronounced the word STAIRS you pronounced it like Fred Dibner steeplejack used to do like STURRS but when you spoke the word THING you emphasised the G like they do in Liverpool THIN-GER LOL so I'm not quite sure but it was unusually warming to hear your accent and it brought back fond memories of my family because our daughter Emma died in a road accident near sherburn in elmet in 1993 and then in 1997 Muriel died in York hospital in my arms from cancer but I fought the church and managed to get Muriel buried in the same grave as Emma in Hambleton just outside Selby because originally their policy was one person per grave but because it was mother and daughter I went above and beyond to break through red tape and bureaucracy and they are resting together. I then had a choice of going to Cornwall where we had many happy holidays or coming to New Zealand and so I chose New Zealand but at the time of leaving the north of England in 2001 I was thinking to myself how much of a tempestuous country England was turning into or perhaps that was just my perception but it was certainly a lot more tempestuous than my childhood in London in the '60s and my teens in the '70s and funnily enough I saw someone in the comments here saying England has gone to the dogs and that exact expression was used by my friend from the Selby drop in center where I used to frequent in the '90s and she wrote to me in New Zealand and she said you're better off where you are because England has gone to the dogs LOL anyway I did actually wonder about living on a houseboat I am very new here I have only watched this video and I just presume that you live full-time on your houseboat and the thing is I rented in New Zealand for 20 years and had to move 12 times due to landlords wanting their house back etc so even at my age of which will be 68 in 3rd September a couple of weeks away I bought a 2010 self-contained caravan last year and I have it on tow with my Audi A4 and I am travelling whilst working on the fly so to speak dressmaking for my retail shops and by purchasing the caravan I have reduced my outgoings by 75% and I am trying to save the deposit for a mortgage so that I will never have to move again and I live with my little Jack Russell buddy but I did have another one Toto but he died age 14 so it's just me and Buddy. I am residing in holiday camps that allow people to stay longer than the mandatory 30 days or whatever but I remain optimistic and basically the cost of the 2010 Bailey pageant series 7 monarch 2 berth caravan is equal to approximately 18 months to 2 years worth of rent so that puts it in perspective except I can go anywhere I want and at the end of a rental all you are left with is a headache and no money except hopefully your bond whereas with the caravan I have an asset and although it's not the easiest thing in the world for me it does have an element of freedom that a rental does not offer. I remember the '60s as a child going along the river Thames from Reading all the way to London and particularly around Reading and especially Henley on Thames where I lived for a while and memories of beautiful sunny days on a tranquil river and the sheer beauty of parts of England. And I have to say that the particular shot in this video where you are showing the high streets and shops to me as an expat who has not seen the homelands for over two decades it was absolutely beautiful to see the quaint and distinctive buildings and layout that could only be England and there are so much things in the UK that I miss and it is true absence makes the heart grow fonder but it was getting extremely tempestuous in the north of England 22 years ago so I have no idea really what it is like these days but I suppose it's a sign of the times but perhaps every generation says that I don't know. But I'm sorry that I have written a book, I knew it would be a book but you're a long time Dead so my policy is to say what you can while you can and I'm down to one kidney on 50% function so I have a lot to say lol. Thank you so much for making my Monday evening a very happy one and we are just coming to the end of winter and spring starts on the 1st of September and I have already subscribed to you and just to say thank you for this video You're a very very beautiful lady in many many ways I just love everything about you and you just made me feel warm and happy all the way through the video so thank you for that and I will explore your other videos but I promise I won't write books on those lol. I'm very sad you had a bad experience in Northwich. We have a boat on the Weaver and travel up and down regularly. We moor up often in town and have never experienced anything like this ever. There are wonderful places for dog walking locally too. Trust me, I do it often enough. A snapshot view is what you had and I hope it doesn't put other travellers off. Having lived in this area for many years I feel really sad that this was your experience. Northwich and the surrounding area is a wonderful place to live

Poor Capt Brucie! No place to go. Restrooms are a must, the older you get. Good thing Captain Condiment (Tony) was there to save the day! Really needed the laughs and Tony looked like he wanted to say more. So glad nothing bad happened.

Thanks again for a splendid film. Last time we went to Anderton boat lift was in 1984. It hadn't been reopened then...You were lucky it were only tomato sauce that was thrown at you. I once heard of a narrowboat entering Chirk tunnel and some kids were waving hello from the parapet. But when the boat started to enter the tunnel, the kids above poured gloss paint over them ! B.

Nothing worse, when a good day is spoiled with idiots who have no appreciation for other people. And like you say, you have to suffer the abuse and say nowt. Just left this same mooring a few days ago. I found it to be one of the best and safest moorings I have ever found. It is very convenient for shops, bars, cinema, services etc. Northwich is a lovely little town.

Thanks for the wonderful video I have been to Northwich many times because my wife's family used to live not far from Northwich, my wife's uncle is a volunteer at the Anderson Boat Lift, he and his wife were instrumental in getting the Boat Lift renovated I think it took over ten years to complete ,they also lived on a narrowboat at Anderson Marina for many years, so sorry that you had experienced such a negative experience down on the River Weaver!

Sorry you had a bad time. I was there a few years back, I moored just beyond the bridge on the righthand side opposite the marina, grass verge and a row of residential houses. Lovely mooring and no problems. Worth knowing if you do decide to return to Northwich.

We don't even live on a boat (we love them and have friends on the cut) but we tent to avoid towns as much as possible.

Hi Helen and Tony I love watching your vlogs so your are so down to earth and funny ,I was brought up in Rufford so know that canal well there wasn’t any Marina then as I’m im 74 but my mum knew the owners sadly she died in October last after catching covid in hospital at 92 and it did her lungs in after a year of suffering but me and my sister go to the Taste buds after we’ve been to church yard so feel like we have a connection to you because you where stuck there for months so could you send me some seeds forget me nots to scatter in mums back garden as we still have her house .Tell me what I have to do and how I pay as I’m thick as well and it’s took me ages to find out how to message you .Keep the funnies coming as we need to laugh don’t we xx

Well that was a bit of an adventure! I've read about the Anderson Lift, but never been there. So that was quite interesting. Sad really that the fun didn't last. How diplomatic are you two? You are of course so right. Only one bad apple in a barrel . . . I think I would do the same, research and go again. Does Google maps work on the canal too? There’s loads and loads of good moorings on the Weaver, if you had only given it a chance. Town centre Saturday night anywhere is dodgy.

Such a shame because it looked like a great spot to moor for the night. It only takes one idiot to spoil it for the rest of us! Hope you have a better experience next time and that Captain Bruce can have a minutes peace with his thoughts.

The River Weaver as you describe is actually the Weaver Navigation: a wide expansion of what was a minor 'stream' to allow shipping to approach the chemical works in Northwich and Winsford. The original river would not have been navigable through the area you cruised. In fact, that whole stretch of river was heavily industrialised and badly polluted. Fortunately, the heavily polluting industries have now gone. Nature has a wonderful way of re-claiming its own and it now is a very beautiful stretch. As you head in the other direction, the navigation widens out into open countryside passing Weaverham and Acton Bridge before you get to the Manchester Ship Canal. Please don't let a few yobs cloud you judgement of the Weaver Navigation.

Sorry about your unhappy experience. It's much the same in any town centre on a Saturday night. Usually alcohol fuelled. Glad your safe and no harm done.

Well that was exciting. A ride down the chairlift onto the Wiver Reaver. It looked really nice, unlike your big hair, but you obviously found your comb so all was well. That is until you moored on the potato waffle pontoon and almost tripped and fell in. Probably a mistake mooring in a busy location like Northwich and so close to McD's. Fast food isn't healthy especially when it is being thrown on your lovely boat. Poor Bruce had to cross his legs before he could find a green patch. Anyway onward and upward (literally) back up the chairlift to the sanctuary of the canal. At least you now have a stock of Tomato sauce for your chips. Poor Tony having to clean condoments off your boat. See you later back on the cut.

I've got a bucket full of marbles and a catapult....works a treat. Been egged once by 2 yobs when sailing under a bridge and they soon regretted it when I responded in kind by way of a couple of marbles each on their bodies....both ran off, hopefully bruised.....you can't rely on the Police

If nothing else, we do hope you reported them to the local police. Not that the police will or can do anything but at least they'll have a record of the harassment and intimidation that goes on towards boaters mooring up at that pontoon. They can be used to send footage to the police should you ever need to and can act as a deterrent to the little scrotes who have nothing better to do than spoil someone else's lifestyle. It’s a shame you had one bad experience on the weaver. It’s my favourite River. But then again I would not overnight in a town. Just get your supplies there and move on. There really are some beautiful moorings down there. Weather you’re going towards Hartford or Frodsham. Don’t let this 1 negative incident spoil it for you. Try again, but stay Rural. Good Luck.

Don't stay at Winsford marina at the end of the Weaver on your next trip up the Weaver either. Unfortunately groups of yobs in cars congregate there in the carpark most nights making a racket and drinking. Nice place for the dog but not good for overnight stays. I've lived around Northwich and Winsford area for over 2 decades before becoming a live aboard fulltime. Unfortunately both places have yobs late at night causing unnecessary hassle.

Get yourself a good paintball gun.

Back in late '70's I was hit on the arm by a rock thrown from a bridge, followed by a second one that missed so definitely not by accident - I was helming my parents narrow boat at the time and as late teens my best mate and I jumped ashore intending violence... The kids got away on bicycles which was probably fortunate - for them and us as that rock had hurt me quite badly and I was in total rage mode. A few inches different that would have been in the back of my head.

The weaver is a lovely river with a very interesting history alot of it was the salt industry most of it has now gone if you head towards winsford and look along the rivers banks you'll see the remnants left over including a slipway that was part of large boatbuilders im sorry you had such bad experience Northwich is normally a nice place unfortunately there's always a bad element that ruins everything I hope you reported them to the Police little sods its people like that give places a bad reputation
