What you missed about the line, “Queens niggas run you niggas. Ask Russell Simmons” is that Russell was the owner of Def Jam (the label that Jay-Z was signed to and that Rocafella was a subsidiary under). Russell Simmons is also from Queens. He’s Run’s brother from Run-DMC, the legendary rap group from Hollis, Queens. Jay is from Brooklyn but under someone from Queens. 😂 It was a flex the Burroughs in NYC often play on each other.
The intro is actually a sample of Tupac saying “fuck Jayz” on a diss track he made for NY rappers, around the time everyone was trying to be the king of NY. “I will not lose” was actually a play on Jay-z’s song as well as his go to line from his album. Nas took that and added his lines to it to basically counter what jayz was saying. Technically it couldve chose that technique because jayz sampled one of Nas’s lines from one of his songs and made it into a hook for(dead presidents). Then to push it, he told Nas on (takeover)”you made it a hot line, I made it a hot song.” So in Ether, Nas basically did the same to jayz. She should definitely listen to “Last real N*** alive” for a better perspective on everything.
Damn..... New sub here, and I've been rapping for 20 yrs, and this man just broke the ENTIRE history of more than just J and Nas... I've watched many of you rap reactions and YOU, my dear fellow, are a book of knowledge when it comes to rap. Well done.
Jaz O was a rapper that brought Shawn Carter into the game Jaz O had a song called Hawaiian Sophie.. Shawn Carter was in the video wearing Hawaiian shirts... his first video.. he adopted the name Jay z...and the rest is history
@@ineverswag For real! The record company asked him to rewrite it because the first version would have definitely started violence. He didn't hold back LOL I think the rough version can be found on YT. You'll have to search for it.
Pac voice saying Fuck Jay Z was epic...I knew it was over coz Pac been dead for abt 6 yrs when this track came out. History has it,Nas made Stan a verb after this song, and Ether became a noun...You got ethered Jay
Hawaii Sofie Fame is b4 Jay-z was Rockefeller he was so corny he was fast rapping with African medallions and a Hawaiian shirt..it's way before big pimping
Nas dropped this song on Jay z’s birthday! And he’s definitely talking about Jadakiss because j had beef with Kiss and he ended up apologizing to Kiss! Sing it with me, NAS…WILL…NOT…LOSE!!!😇
Jay stole kiss & styles intro on fiesta remix. Styles & jada did there version of r. Kelly’s fiesta 1st and jay stole their cadence and style on the 1st few lines.
That’s the reference line that Nas used for me that killed jay. I was like, how you disrespect your dead homie like that???? This dude is cocky as fck & don’t care about no one but himself.
You also forgot inside of the hook " I , WILL, NOT, LOSE " At the end of one of JAY Z songs he said I WILL NOT LOSE. As far as the JADAKISS line JAY Z & JADAKISS had a mini beef & JAY Z apologized on the radio
I'm a white boy from Europe who grew up on west coast hiphop ; but there's a reason why i have his Illmatic Vinyl hanging on my wall Framed and still in the plastic. dude is on another fucking level, personally to me he is the Greatest living hiphop artist of our time
8:39 Actually the “I. Will. Not. Lose!!!” is a mockery of Jay-Z’s rapping on “Change the Game” which was released in the 2000s. I believe he rapped that line on several songs during that time, but definitely change the game.
The shirt is from Jaz-O song called Hawaiin Sophie. Jay-z is featured on the song and they made a video where they are wearing the shirts. It’s on RU-vid check the video out.
The Jadakiss line is because Beanie had beef with Jadakiss and I guess Jay-Z apologized on Beans behalf. That's why Nas said "you pop shit and apologize n*gga, just ask kiss" lol
The context is key Jay Z was a lacky to everybody throughout the Golden Era of Hip Hop he was a nobody wheb Tupac and Biggie was alive while Nas was competing with them and Jay Z was just a fan. Then all of Sudden he turns on Mr. Miyagi, and acts like he's better. There's much more to it, but who wants to read all that.
Seriously? You that delusionall 😂, Nas didn't win the battle, this corny and childish song doesn't hit, Takeover was better & Super Ugly hit deeper than both of them out together, tf you on about 🤣 Just cause you're a fan and he's arguably the greatest to ever so it doesn't mean you should be biased and try turn a loss into a win.
JJ evans was a chatrcter named JJ from the 70's black tv sitcom called "Good Times"...JJ was skinny and funny looking so ...nas was calling Jay z ...JJ evens from good times.
No argument from me and NaS is my favorite Rapper, but No Vaseline is even more consequential because it was a Diss track that took out an entire Rap Group, NWA. That was hard, Ice Cube really did his thing, did not hold back.
Jj evens is a character form the show good times, and jazz is the rapper Jaz-O who jay z got his start working with in some of his early songs and appearances.
My first time checking out your channel. Love the reaction video. Jay-Z response to Ether was a song called "Super Ugly", it didn't get alot of shine because Ether was 🔥🔥🔥🔥 The song is definitely worth a review when ever you get a chance.
I dont think Anybody know who JJ Evans is...aside from that Good Times show, so idk. Lol Jaz is Jaz-O...the guy that Jay was with in the beginning. And yes, Kiss is Jadakiss.
This is not the original beat to Either and these arent the original verses to Either. they told Nas to change it up or he'd ruin his own career. The original beat was made by Swizz Beatz.
As far as the BIGGIE references, JAY once said in a song " IF I'M NOT BETTER THAN BIG THEN I'M THE CLOSEST ONE TO IT. " He also mentions why he uses some of BIGGIE'S lyrics in most of his songs
ALSO...in the chorus...I...Will.....Not....Lose.... was from a jayz song called..."U Don't Know"...so thats why he added it in the chorus.....and he referenced the hawaiin shirts cause when Jayz first came out he was in a song called ..."Hawaii Sophie".... a song by a rapper called Jaz....the song was on the corny side...
@@true-n-living WELL BRO...THAT MAY BE TRUE...BUT I JUST LOOKED IT UP ON WIKIPEDIA...AND IT SAYS...AND YOU CAN GO AND LOOK UP ETHER ON THERE ALSO....IT SAYS.... "THE SONG'S CHORUS IS BUILT AROUND THE PHRASE I WILL NOT LOSE, AN ILLUSION TO JAY Z'S SONG....U DON'T KNOW". AND NAS IS CALLING JAY OUT ABOUT THE ALBUM ..THE BLUEPRINT...WHICH U DON'T KNOW IS ON. Nas even says it the same way Jay says it on.....u don't know
Who ever said jay won because of the song don't know hip-hop I'm not taking nun from jay but nas bodied jay no discussion fam nas Is a different breed He has tons of classics
Definitely one of the greatest disses! Also "No Vaseline" by Ice Cube", "The Bridge is Over" by KRS-ONE/Boogie Down Productions and of course "Hit 'Em Up" by Tupac.
Also random, but I figured since you showed her “Rewind” already and she likes his story telling, you should definitely show her “Shoot ‘em up” and “Blaze a 50”. 🔥
Impact wise it will always be Hit em up I'm a Pac fan but I believe no Vaseline by Cube is the hardest followed by hit em up then ether then about 5 other diss tracks from Pac where he disses both Jay z Nas Big Mobb deep amongst others Pac was untouched unmatched and undeniable 5 to 6 years of greatness His entire catalogue would take most decades to achieve he did it in 5 all by the age of 25
You pop shit then apologize just ask kiss. This is about jadakiss. Jayz would throw subliminal disses to jadakiss and the Lox but would later apologize when kiss and the lox would respond jayz was supposed to battle kiss before Nas he sent sigel to battle kiss instead this is a fact kiss confirmed it on the song uh-huh featuring Dmx who was dissing jayz also.
They don't say Ether for nothing, Jay z Lost the battle, and that is that no matter how good Jay z takeover or supaugly was Nas came back and drop ETHER on Jay's Born Day which made it worse
Renegade is Eminem n Royce da 5'9 song originally n they took Royce off the song n added Jay Z. So Eminem just kept his original verse thats why it sounds like an Eminem record because, it is🙏🙏
Hey love the page and the title… I just wanted put you guys on to some important info on the topic. I myself am from queens nyc. Jay-Z did a song called “Hawaiian Sophie” back in the late 80’s with Jaz-O and the song and video were both horrible they were wearing Hawaiian shirts in the video that’s what the reference was referring to. Also not considered a on wax beef to be honest. It’s highly documented. Jay-Z wanted to work with nas really bad back In the 90’s they were never friends and nas kept brushing Jay off and just did not wanna have anything to do with him for whatever his reasons were. Jay-Z than retaliated by sleeping with his than girlfriend who’s name is Carmen and the mother of his now adult daughter. It was extremely personal. And they did not become cordial/ so called friends until years after all that. If you listen to jay-Z’s super ugly he has a line where he says “Me and the boy A.I. (Allen Iverson) got more in Carmen than just balling and rhyming” “get more in Carmen. She (Nas ex) (allegedly slept with NBA player Allen iverson back around the same time frame). Nas ex was sleeping with both of them. Jay z went out of his way to disrespect nas by having a affair with the mother of his child and go on to talk about and also add comments like leaving condoms on Nas daughters car seat. Listenin to jay z super ugly track and also the takeover. Ether was a response those tracks but jayz really was having sex with nas girl and that’s definitely personal.
Also that’s why he referred to jay as a “Stan” like Eminem’s song “Stan” as I’m sure you know was about an obsessed fan and that’s basically him saying that he considered jay to be a “Stan” because he was always asking him to do a song together. They also had and still have a lot mutual friends in the music industry Even though they hated each other
Decent recap, but theres a lot you missed. Takeover came first, then Ether, then Super Ugly. And after this Jay Z cried on live radio and apologized. Also when Jay was bangin Carmen it wasnt like Nas was with her. Nas was already a superstar on tour all over the US. Simultaneously bangin any girl he wanted. So the Carmen thing wasnt as much of a diss as Jay made it seem.
Thx for the detailed breakdown! Did hear about some of this but would've been a long video if we went through it all haha! Definitely missed the Hawaiian Sophie reference though so thank you!
@@billybarz8724 actually they had an on and off relationship and he definitely did have an affair with her on nas time at some point. Also yes it was takeover than ether than super ugly. That I am aware of however it wasn’t easy trying to get all that in there and there were other things I could of pointed out as well but I think I got the point across for the most part! But thanks
Why would people think JZ got any close to Nas during their beef. Why is it when you get rap smacked its said you got ethered, and not take-overed. Yes, Nas is the greatest, of that there is no doubt. Nas buried JZ with ether, period. Go search on RU-vid Jay-Z - The Greatest Biter Ever, he has bitten major bars from Biggie, Pac, Snoop, Slick Rick & Nas. it's almost 6 minutes' worth of biting. He is the biggest thief in Hip Hop.
If you're referring to NO VASELINE...Then Maybe it could be. But you would have to place that next to the song CUBE was responding to. Message to Benedict Arnold(skit)- REAL NIGGAS by NWA, which was a good diss track with an exceptional musical soundscape. I would further suggest WHO SHOT YA and LONG KISS GOODNIGHT by Biggie.
Glad you listen let her here that Ether. This is why Nas is the greatest of all time period First Nas and hip hop are the exact same age they both will be turning 50. Nas never mentored Jay-Z his mentor was Jaz-O. Jay-Z only admired Nas and it all started when Nas never turned up to the studio to feature on dead presidents. Jay-Z felt disrespected then the subliminal bars started and Jay also slept with Nas baby mother Carmen. Jaz-O had a song called Hawaiian Sophie which was Jay’s first feature and they were both wearing Hawaiian shirts in the video. Jay-Z said on a song - and if I ain’t better than big then I’m the closest one. Can’t remember the song though. When Nas says they called you ugly he’s referring to when Jay said they used to cal me ugly and wouldn’t touch me on song cry. Good video but you should research some of the facts first.
Nah it first started when Jay sampled Nas and didn’t pay him and then Nas didn’t show up to record and then sent a sub in the message I mean u was pretty much there just forgot that one detail but it’s the main reason the beef started
@@NACentDSTM Nope Jay sampled his voice because Nas didn’t show up to the studio session for dead presidents so he sampled his voice instead. I seen loads of interviews about this. Nas was known for not showing up to sessions in his early career -OC was meant to have a track with Nas and he spoke about him not turning up. During the battle between both Nas said in an interview Jay wanted to do the songs with him but back then he didn’t really know him like that and wasn’t feeling it.
@@mirakworld434 nah man pretty sure the song Nas didnt show up for was the song (- bring it on ) which was after the sample situation in which both Nas and AZ was supposed to be on the track but they never showed up and Jay had to replace them with jaz-O and sauce money and then after threw the shots in “ the message” . For dead prez Jay wanted nas but Nas didn’t want to he never said he would even show up to the studio because he didn’t want to in the first place so Jay sampled his voice and asked him to be in the video but Nas refused to be in the video as well and told him if he wanted to sample his voice he would have to pay him in which AZ and BIG was in the video but Nas refused
@@NACentDSTM yeah I recently heard about bring it on but wasn’t sure if that was factual and this is news to me about paying to be in the video never knew that. You may be right about the bring it on situation and maybe the reason why Nas didn’t want to jump on dead presidents. I just remember hearing Jay wanted Nas on the hook but he never showed up. I also heard Jay wanted Nas on empire state of mind but he declined.
@@mirakworld434 yeah he didn’t want to do Empire State of mind with alecia keys because he already had NEW YORK state of mind, NY state of mind part 2 on the I am album and even a NY state of mind part 3 remix with alecia keys and rakim as well after the 9/11 attack which is kinda underrated so I mean it made sense at that point it was like beating a dead horse and doing another “state of mind “ with alecia keys was milking it
