One important thing! Skoda is the brand among the car factories who probably has the oldest motorsport history. It's more than 120 years old! The Skoda rallycars were always brilliant and powerful. Especially the Octavia WRC. Its engine was more powerful than Subaru WRC's! Don't forget: this car comes from the golden era of rallying. 2 litre engine with 34 mm restrictor, 6 speed sequential gearbox, 4-wheel drive. The torque was around 600 Nm! A real beast! I recommend from my heart to everyone who is able to travel to Mlada Boreslav in Czech Republik to visit Skoda Museum. They have an incredible collection include the wide range of rally and sport cars. It's a really great program!

I always love the way Skoda did a complete 180 and then some from being a butt of jokes in the 80s-mid/late 90s to being a very respected manufacturer, often making cars that rate higher with journalists than their VW counterparts that they're built off the bases of.

Original generation Octavia…at this point Skoda had been bought up by Volkswagen and had indeed started sharing platforms so your observation on the Jetta and this is spot on. Around the same time, main chassis and body is roughly the same. The Octavia was based based on the Golf (Rabbit) and in turn the Jetta is a Golf (Rabbit) with a boot (trunk). Well this was the first generation of Octavia since 1998 as far as I remember. But this WRC is a restyling original is more like Jetta (Bora), but restyling is more like Passat. Now it is 4th generation started few years on. The main problem of Octavia is that it is Golf-class car, Golf-based platform pretend to be Passat in a liftback body. Absolutely uncomfortable for rear passengers, or if they are kids. Nowadays Octavia is much more comfortable then first generation.

That noise you hear is an extra fuel injector keeping the turbo spinning when you back off the throttle; this keeps the turbo pressure high, so there's no waiting for it to wind up. It makes excellent noise I remember it back in the early nineties when it first started over here in Australia; a few exhaust systems got blown off some cars trying to get it to work correctly I can tell you.
@iDropPhats
@iDropPhats Год назад
Not an extra injector, but rather a rich fuel mixture to carry on combustion past the chamber and into the manifold to keep high turbo pressure when off throttle. And yes, many exhaust systems were blown to bits trying to get this right
@MatMcCrudden

@@iDropPhats I seem to remember something about Mitsubishi Vr4 Galants have a spot to actually mount and extra injector for the exhaust side .
@iDropPhats
@iDropPhats Год назад
@@MatMcCrudden That would be interesting and very, very unique! Also incredibly dangerous lol, an injector and an exhaust hot enough to melt your hand off is a recipe for disaster. Usually anti lag systems just push combustion out past the chamber and the rest of the explosion happens in the manifold, thus creating massive amounts of pressure to keep the turbo spooled up. An injector into the manifold would have to come with some trick electronics (for the time) to make sure too much fuel isn’t dumped in because that would not only blow the manifold straight off the block, but also probably send the turbo 200 feet into whatever direction it decided to go 😂

These cars do sound very cool. Skoda started out in 1925 in the Czech Republic as an independent company, was bought by the Czech authorities in 1948 and was eventually bought by the Volkswagen Group in 2000. So Yes, there is probably shared parts between the Skoda and assorted VWs. The Whip crack as the exhaust flashes is 'almost' as cool as the turbo chatter on a Group B Audi Quattro.
@yenlabuda9289
@yenlabuda9289 Год назад
Just a couple of corrections. Škoda as a company was established in 1866, however the company started producing cars in 1925 after they bought Czechoslovakian car company Laurin & Klement (hence the highest class of today's Škoda Superb is called Laurin & Klement). Also, it wasn't established in the Czech Republic because Czech Republic didn't exist back then. Czech Republic was created in 1993. So it was really the so-called first Czechoslovak republic in 1925. The last thing is, government did not buy the company in 1948. The company was forcefully nationalized as a result of communist coup.

European Rally cars have close to 380 Hp, which they hang in a two liter turbocharged engine. They have 4x4 operation with a sequential gearbox. And the reason why these often "bang" when changing gears is because they don't let off the gas pedal, and therefore the petrol goes into the exhaust and ignites there, and sounds like an explosion. These cars manage about 200-210 km/h, and that on forest roads that are about 250 cm wide, and covered with everything the forest has to offer. The rawest rally car ever built has to be the Audi Ur Quatro, or Audi Sport Quatro !!

Skoda is part of the VW/AUDI company. The second-generation Octavia was introduced in March 2004, based on the Volkswagen Group A5 (PQ35) platform also used by other Volkswagen Group cars, such as the Audi A3 Mk2, Volkswagen Golf Mk5, Volkswagen Jetta Mk5, SEAT León Mk2, etc.

From early 90s Skoda is owned by VAG group. Octavia is on same platform as Golf, Bora (US Jetta), Audi A3, Seat Leon… Biggest difference between Jetta and Octavia is that Octavia is Liftback and is slighty longer than jetta.

You are very correct, it looks like a Jetta, because VAG makes Skoda/VW/Audi/SEAT/Porsche. The engines are used in all brands, differ slightly in power/tune. The chassis is also used across the board, only with trim differences. F.eks Audi A4 = VW Passat = Skoda Octavia

Hi mate great to see you’re getting into rallying, have a look at Andy Burton’s Peugeot Cosworth, the guy built it himself in his barn and is legendary on the British rallying scene, it’s widely regarded as one of the best sounding rally cars ever if not the best. Sadly it was banned back in 2011 due to tighter regulations but there’s plenty of YT videos of it 👌

Thais Škoda was made for the first WRC regulations, 1997. Basically there were 3 different regulations for the WRC category: 1997-2010: 2.0 litre engine, turbocharged. 4WD and around 300 hp (though they reached 330-340) and 1200kg.They ended up having traction control, ABS, paddle shift, active differentials…the lot. Cars: Citroen Xsara WRC and C4 WRC, Peugeot 206 and 307 WRC, Seat Cordoba WRC, Skoda Octavia WRC (this one), Ford Escort, Ford Focus, Hyundai Accent, Toyota Corolla and Her Blue Majesty, Subaru Impreza WRC. 2011-2016: Smaller cars, smaller engines (1.6 litre), but 300hp still. Exotic materials were banned and they only had two differentials (and no electronic aids). Weight went up to 1350kg. Cars: Citroen DS3 WRC, Hyundai i20, Mini JCW, VW Polo, Ford Fiesta. 2017-2021: Same engine but power output went up to 380hp. Big wings and aero devices all around were allowed. Weight is 1360kg, same as from 2016. Cars: Toyota Yaris, Ford Fiesta, Hyundai i20 coupe. Just those three. Sorry for the length but I think that will help you to keep track of the modern WRC era before delving into Gr A, Gr B and the prototypes Gr S (the would be substitutes for Group B cars, one step further)

Cheers, the skodas from 00' to now have been brilliant reskins of VW products, the Skoda Fabia is based on the VW Polo, the Octavia from the video is indeed based on the Jetta (Passat in Europe). I'm really happy you like the sound of boosted 4cylinders, some don't like some of their "farty" exhaust notes, but some so sound great. Seat and Skoda are usually reskins of VW cars, as you were intrigued what some of those hatchback brands are. The rally content is great, keep it up!

Skoda was one of the oldest brands of motor vehicles. It is a great bummer they got basically acquired by Soviets and then by VW as an underdog brand. Older Skoda had problems, because it had cars that were great, but not ""worth the making". Some Skoda Prototype production models are amazing.

@@IWrocker i dont hear hypermiling fun as a focus of car fun, but it is proably the most pracitical type of fun because it makes every move feel more urgent in trying to maximize tire, brake, battery, engine, liquids, fuel, electrcity longevity, for less money and time spend maintaining car and less emissions, more long term economy sustainability with growing population etc... by getting to places on time but also steering, acclerating, braking, minimally and at a steady pace, and make most power needed at most effceint RPM according to engine BFSC chart as shown in press release posts on company websites, toyota did show it for at least inline 4. example: hold down pedal at a certain position then adjust if need more braking, less hard barking against tire brakes friction wear and needing to power up after slowing down as much. example: build up car momentum before uphills and when going downhill so its easier on engine to maintain speed effceintly. it would also help create hate against suvs because more weight, weight also makes it less safe for lighter cars who tend to be more common cars that excel more in the values i expressed. they cause more need for road wear maintainence, payed by taxpayer. big car cause more traffic and parking problems coz take up space, stackable storage space is also less helpful than having more floor space of storage area as done in wagons, for when not using only 1 or 2 seats which is almost all the time, rent a van for the yearly family vacation instead. tell mw what video youll announce a discord dot come server invite link at, so i can send more video ideas

Well rally version of that car was pretty good in its own category (that is Group1, under 1.3l category) and later 110 models were extremely good (again in under 1.3l category) and 120/130 (or Estelle for british) was outright domineering in its class in 70's and 80's (winning it's class RAC Rally 17 times).

Some south American countries import Skoda to the continent with more impressive good looking design and performance. Greetings from Germany.
