Very accurate story. Nothing taken out of context. I'm humbled to say that Mr. Johnson is a friend of mine. He is, in person, EXACTLY what you see here. Maybe he is or isn't the last American hero, but he sure as hell is a hero of mine! I wish everyone could know him, if for no other reason than to learn how to brag and be humble at the same time. He taught me more than he probably realizes. I hope you get to shake hands with him someday. You'll see why! 😝🙂✌️
Grateful to have seen Junior Johnson run at a Hillsborough, NC dirt track ~1963 in a race which included Joe Weatherly, Richard and Lee Petty, among others. So sad to hear of his passing.
First discover drafting ....first to hack into RESTRICTOR PLATE and carb to get more HP ....HE reason winston started sponsoring nascar......plus lottttt more
Man there is nothing like the bond between a father and a son. The film was great but the end was the best. I grew up learning everything i know from my dad between hunting, fishing what i know about cars and pretty much everything else i know.
In Junior's day, young men were obedient and respectful of there parents, especially their Fathers. In one comment, Junior said he could be 40 years old and if his father asked him to fire up the Still, he would not hesitate to carry out his father's instructions. My family are from the same area Junior grew up at so I can easily relate to the Appalachian culture of some of the finest people one could ever know.
RIP Junior Johnson the last American Hero! He may have been a simple southerner to most but in reality the man was a genius on multiple levels. Go rest high on that mountain JJ!
Even at his peak as an owner he was just a normal guy, he once walked into the small cafe we were eating at in Jonesville NC, sat down on a stool at the counter, ordered his food and ate like the rest of us, no fanfare but we all knew greatness was in our presence
Mike Joy is one myfavorite guys he really likes hotrod especially when he at barret Jackson one of the best cars show around hope to see you there Joy l.d.k.
One of the true NASCAR champions plus I had the pleasure of meeting him in Bristol he seen me walking across the parking lot with a case of his cat daddy moonshine he proceeded to holler at me asked me if I would like his signature. He took the time for pictures with me and signed every bottle and proceeded to piss off everybody that was in line waiting because he took me in front of everyone I will never forget it. He gave me a smile for the rest of my life every time I think about it plus I still have a bottle or two lol 😂
Never knew that Junior drove a 65 Ford Galaxie in his last season as a driver. The 65 Galaxie R-Code 427 is my favorite Ford ever made other than maybe a 66-67 Fairlane R-Code 427
i thought it was great how they tied the last american hero movie with jeff bridges with this and because of that movie i became a fan of the real legendary junior johnson
My dad took me to see the movie back in the early 70s at a walk in theater. I did not know who Junior Johnson was but I wanted to be just like him when I grew up.
Junior Johnson saves Nascar by finding them a title sponsor for 32 years. Nascar turns around and screws junior , so he's says. I'm out of here. Way too go Nascar.
Though I live in California since I was 3. I’m always pulled back to North Carolina and wanting to know more about the legends of where I was born and I’m always wanting to race if the car can handle it. I’ve already blown a engine lol.
I just wont to say im on my wifes youtube acc my name is michael i live in wilkesboro and im 32 he,s still a hero to me ive allways heard storys about him growing up With my famliy makeing moon shine on my mom side was like he,s famliy they had 13 kids and lived good but they made moon shine but what people forr get is Back then it was a way of life for folks around here u could make a good liveing and go to jail but to me selling moon shine is alot better than what people are doing in this day and time But god bless from nc
My late Father absolutely loved Junior, but Pop knowing his Son absolutely love's Richard Petty he would never openly root for Junior, or Junior's car/driver when we watched the Stocker's ( as Pop called um ) race on TV, or in the stands at Riverside or Ontario. That must of been tough on him starting in 76, when Richard started to fade a bit & suddenly Cale couldn't be beat hardly ☺️ By the time I turned 20 in 81, I was old enough to finally comprehend just what & who JJ was & it was then I started to really appreciate him, Pop knew how to pick um 😉👍 Listen, when Bruce Springsteen start's singing about you in one of his epic tunes, you know you are a True AMERICAN BADDASS! 💪
It broke my heart to hear that Junior died with Alzheimer’s in a hospice. What a horrible thing, to have such genius and then to lose such a gifted mind
Jr Johnson jumped out of a tumbling NASCAR race car right out of the back windra. Study it should have been a Pulitzer prize winner... Look it up.. Unbelievable but true
No kidding. The music is some of these videos is so damn annoying, totally unnecessary! Why can't they figure out, that its silly and so DETRACTING to the interviews?
Yeah I couldn't believe it when he said it was himself in The Last American Hero. I know Busey well, but he sounds so much more...distinguished...here than I normally remember his voice to be.
