I’m an Aussie and this was a painful innings to watch until the stokes wicket. I was talking to people online that were litterally crying because we couldn’t get stokes out and it felt like we would soon be over. Didn’t help that at the start of the day 9 showed clips from headingly so the whole game felt live ptsd flashbacks to that. Even just before the final wicket I feared England was about to win. Glad to see this result
@trev1775
@trev1775 Год назад
I thought we were making the exact same mistakes as Headingley, kept the fields back late in the over and let him take an easy single to keep a strike, was only getting 1 or 2 balls at Broad and when we did get to bowl to broad we went short like we did too Leach. But unlike Headingley we found a way to dry up Stokes boundaries, people praising Stokes for summing up the game well but they were refusing to take easy singles too keep the score ticking over and got bogged down, which lead to his wicket, it was 4,6 or nothing.

Spirit of the Game exhibit A: Bairstow attempted the exact same thing by trying to catch Marnus Labuschagne stepping out of his crease two days ago. Spirit of the Game exhibit B: England coach Brendon McCullum has three instances of identical dismissals. (Mpofu 2005, Muralitharan 2006, Collingwood 2009) Spirit of the Game exhibit C: Broad edging a ball to slip but refusing to walk, an edge the English quick has since admitted to. Spirit of the Game exhibit D: England keeper Ben Foakes stumping Irishman Andy Balbirnie after holding onto the ball for a far greater amount of time than what Carey did. Spirit of the Game exhibit E: The MCC long room behaved disgracefully. Not surprisingly three MCC members are now suspended. Spirit of the Game exhibit F: The crowd chanting that Australians are cheaters. Actually the only person convicted of cheating in this series is England's Moeen Ali. Spirit of the Game exhibit G: England bowling 'Bodyline' on day 4, for a record 98% short balls. Also extremely boring to watch - so much for "entertaining bazball". Spirit of the Game exhibit H: England/fans not respecting umpires decision. This was not a bad LBW call, a missed no ball (etc)... this was within the laws. Spirit of the Game exhibit I: Ollie Robinson telling Usman Khawaja to "F off" after dismissing him on 141 I won't add Duckett not walking re Starc's catch, because we respect that rules are rules I also won't add England's controversial win over New Zealand in the World Cup final involving Stokes himself as there's been no shortage of comments about that.

England really need to smarten up to take this series as they don't hold it, so they need to win 3 in a row. Aus have 2 wins in the bank now and either need 1 win or 2 draws to win the series or just need to draw 1 if they wish to at least retain and draw the series, which would be severely disappointing because we still haven't won a series in England since 2001.

@maxchurchward315
@maxchurchward315 Год назад
I think the mass hysteria was caused by the commentary of the English players in the lead up to the series. They have been scathing in the "boring" Aussie tactics and loudly predicted a clean sweep using their " entertaining" bazballs. The English fans have lapped it up, " we're going to give it to those Aussies". Well it hasn't happened and now they're looking for someone to blame and it can't be us because we're so good, it has to be the cheating Aussies. I mean they have form( as if England hasn't 😂) English arrogance created this atmosphere and now they hide behind the veil of "spirit of the game" when beaten by a better team. Sorry, it just won't wash. Anyway you have 3 more tests to prove the worth of bazballs. I wish you all luck.

The reason England are 2 down is the declaration in the 1st test. 2 batsmen with over 40 runs partnership batting into the 2nd morning may have brought us another 20 to 50 runs. Result, at least a Drawn game. It was like Christmas for Australia needing 170/180 to avoid the follow on instead of say 250. No wickets in that half hour.

That was a good breakdown by Nasser. You actually forget how poorly some of the England players batted , papered over by a brilliant innings from Stokes. I don’t mind the ‘Bazball’ approach but you don’t just swing at every ball 🏀 as some players were doing for the sake of it. Happy for England to bring the Bazball approach to the third test let’s see if they can keep the series interesting. From an Aussie 🇦🇺.

Nasser is spot on. While runs on the board is always critical, making 350 in 60\70 overs also allows extra time for your opponent to make runs. The pressure of runs on the board is lessened by the extra time you allow your opposition to make them. The England team clearly have the talent, but just need to adjust their gameplan more readily out on the ground as currently the 'flat out' (I refuse to say Baz ball) approach is leaving gaps in the strategy that the Aussies have capitalised on to go 2-0 up.

Well said guys. However, England has everything in their favour with the toss and weather in both games and have still come up short. If the shoe was on the other foot in the first test and Australia batted first, they would have batted for 4 and a half sessions with 500 on the board and put in a dog-tired England when the weather got cloudy on day two. If the shoe was on the other foot in the 2nd test and Australia had bowled first they would have rolled England for less than 200 and then gotten through to the sunny day two and batted England out of the game. The law of averages says that you can't keep having luck fall your way, so if you don't maximise that luck then when it turns you're screwed.

Of all the commentators in the present cricket world, Nasser got to be up there as a top individual who voices his opinion in an unbiased fashion unlike many other commentators who sort of glorifies their nation. Used to be a great fan of Ian Chappell for his commentary as he's ruthless as well and he still is to a large extent. This game needs more such kind of personalities so that people sitting at home watching the game or listening to their voice on the radio can get to learn and understand more about the game. Now-a-days commentary has sort of become a marketing thanks to the individuals beating the drums elevating an individual or an organizing body to the godly level. That should stop I reckon for the betterment of the game and commentators being ruthless without taking anyside would eventually does lots of good for this game we all love.❤
